Chapter 34

Holy shit! He was going to be a dad. The one thought kept racing through Ryan's head. He was going to be a dad.

"Ryan, say something please." Olivia begged.

"You...we...pregnant...are you sure?" He stammered.

"My boobs hurt. I'm sick to my stomach. I can smell everything, and there is a positive pregnancy test sitting on the bathroom counter. As soon as the doctors office opens, I'm going in to take a blood test, but yeah. I'm pretty sure. I need to know how you feel about this." She said, her voice shaking slightly.

She watched the smile spread across his face, then his eyes lit up. "I'm really going to be a dad." He grinned widely, then helped her off the floor and wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her.

"So you're really okay with this?" She asked, still nervous.

"I'm more than okay with this. We're having a baby Livvy. This is so exciting. I can't wait to tell everyone."

A slight panic rose in Olivia. "No Ry. You can't. Not yet. It's too soon. I have to tell my mom and dad first. Oh God. I have to tell my mom and dad. I think I'm going to be sick again." She took a few deep breaths, and finally, the wave of nausea passed.

Ryan noticed she was shaking. "Babe, you've got to get something in your stomach. We don't want your blood sugar dropping or you getting dehydrated."

"I don't think I can Ry." She said softly.

"You have to try Livvy." He led her out of the bathroom and into the kitchen, where he sat her down at the table. He went to the fridge and got a Body Armor and handed it to her. She opened it a took a small sip. The cold liquid felt refreshing to her dry mouth.

"Better?" He asked.

She nodded, but then she noticed the frying pan filled with burned bacon. Ryan saw what she was looking at. "Don't worry about it. I'll take care of it."

"I'm sorry I burned breakfast." She burst into tears.

"Hey, it's okay sweetheart. Don't worry about it." He said trying to soothe her, and her tears subsided.

He placed a couple slices of bread in the toaster, then threw out the burnt bacon and began cleaning the pan.

He placed the toast on a plate and handed it to her, then watched as she slowly nibbled on it.

"Are you okay with this Livvy?" He couldn't help but be concerned. She didn't look so good.

"Being pregnant yes, I am happy, but I'm low key freaking out Ry. My mom and dad are going to lose it. I just know it."

"What makes you think they are going to lose it?" He questioned.

"Because they are very conservative. My dad is an OBGYN. I've been preached to all my life about the evils of premarital sex. Unplanned pregnancies, unwed mothers. Even though I obviously didn't share their views on premarital sex, well, not completely anyway, but I always thought I would be married before I had a baby."

"Surely you don't think they actually believe we haven't been having sex. We live together for crying out loud." Ryan said.

"I think they kind of ignored that fact because they never expected their so very responsible daughter to be anything other than responsible and end up pregnant without being married first."

"We can get married Livvy." He said taking her hand.

To his surprise, she began crying again. "I don't expect you to marry me just because I'm pregnant. I wasn't fishing around for a marriage proposal. Being pregnant is not a good enough reason to get married Ryan."

"I love you Livvy. Isn't that a good enough reason?"

"Be honest Ry, would we even be having this conversation if there wasn't a baby involved?"

He thought to himself for a moment. True, he hadn't thought about marriage, not yet anyway, but only because they had just been together for a few months, not because he didn't want to marry her one day.

She noted his hesitation. "We wouldn't. It's too soon. I know you think it's the right thing to do, and you do want to do the right thing, and I love you for it, but I would always feel in the back of my mind that the baby was the reason we got married, and I would never push you into anything you weren't ready for."

Suddenly, he knew in his heart that he wanted to marry her. Baby or not. It would take some time to convince her of that, but they had time. Time enough for him to actually propose the right way.

"I do love you Livvy, and I do want to marry you, not just because of the baby. We have time to figure everything out. I'm not going anywhere."

"I love you too, but before we get too ahead of ourselves, maybe we should wait until I get the blood test." Her words sounded calm and practical, but inside, she was a wreck.

Ryan wasn't fooled. He knew her too well. He knew her nerves were getting to her. She still looked a little shaky as well.

"Why don't I drive you there. I know you're worried, but I don't want you to be. Stressing out isn't good for you and it's not good for the baby."

"Okay." She agreed. He really did know her all too well.

A few hours after returning from the lab, Olivia's doctor called to confirm that she was indeed pregnant and scheduled her for her first prenatal appointment and ultrasound that following Tuesday afternoon. It was really happening. She and Ryan were having a baby.

"When do you want to tell your parents?" Ryan asked.

"They are out of town until Monday for a medical conference. I'll tell them Monday evening or Tuesday." Olivia replied.

"What do you mean you'll tell them? We are in this together Livvy."

"I think it's best I go there alone and tell them. I don't know how they'll react."

"Even more reason we should tell them together. I think they need to see for themselves that I am committed to you and to our baby."

He did have a point. They were in this together.

"Okay. We'll tell them together." She agreed.

Now she had to get through Talladega then she had to get through Monday.

*******

A/N: A little personality reversal. Olivia is the one freaking out and Ryan is the one trying to calm her down. Lol
