Chapter 31
Ryan stared at the door for what felt like an eternity, willing Olivia to walk back in. Why had he ever kept that piece of information from her? Wasn't he the one who got mad at her for keeping Dean's secret from him?
He meant it when he said he wasn't even sure if anything had happened between he and Heather. Sure he was drunk, but he wasn't that drunk. He was not a cheater. Still, why didn't he tell Olivia about it?
He picked up his phone. He really wanted to call Olivia, but he was trying to give her space like she asked. Instead, he found himself searching through old text messages, trying to find a number that he long ago deleted, then blocked.
Ryan: What the fuck are you trying to pull now Lauren?
Lauren: So this is what I have to do to get a response from you I guess?
Ryan: What all did you tell Olivia?
Lauren; I told her the truth. I was not the only one who was unfaithful in our relationship
Ryan: What do you want Lauren? Why won't you leave me the hell alone?
Lauren: I told you Ry, I want you back. I want us back.
Ryan: And I told you that it's over. There is no us. I don't want you. Stay the hell away from me. Stay the hell away from Olivia. Don't call me. Don't text me. Don't come to my house. We are over. Done. I want you out of my life.
He didn't wait for her to respond, he just hung up the phone.
*******
Olivia drove around for hours, before finally ending up at her house. She looked around at the emptiness, and she worried she had made a big mistake. She didn't know what else to do, so she buried her face in her hands and cried.
Sure she was angry, but she was more hurt than anything. She never expected Ryan to keep something like this from her.
Was she overreacting? Maybe. Sure it was bad that he cheated on Lauren. That didn't mean he was going to cheat on her though did it? She knew the old saying "once a cheater, always a cheater," but that didn't necessarily mean he would do it to her.
Was it in his past? Yes. Should he have told her about it? Uh yes. They had promised not to have any secrets from each other. He had let her believe it was just Lauren that had cheated. She felt like such a fool. She was completely blindsided by Lauren dropping that bombshell, which was probably Lauren's whole intention.
She asked herself a few more questions: Did she love him? Absolutely. Could she trust him? This one was a little more difficult to answer. She thought she did. Now she was not so sure. Could she live without him? Probably, but did she didn't want to? Hell no. Was their relationship worth saving? Worth fighting for? Yes. That much she knew. She was hurt, but she did love him. They had some work to do, but they could fix this. They had to fix it.
She thought about staying the night, but she had no clothes. She didn't even have a toothbrush. She needed to go back home. This was no longer her home. It was cold and empty. Her home was with Ryan.
********
"You came back?" He asked, as she walked through the door. He was afraid to ask if she was really back, or if she only came back for her things.
"Of course I came back. I said I just needed some space, and time to think." She said softly, crossing the room to sit on the couch next to him.
"We need to talk. I know. I'm not going to avoid it. I will tell you anything you want to know. Anything you think you need to know." He wanted to touch her, but he was afraid to. He wasn't sure exactly where they stood.
"I don't care about your past Ry. I just want you to be honest with me. Anything that happened in the past that does not affect us, just leave it there."
"I just need you to know I'm not a cheater. When I hooked up with Heather, supposedly, I honestly thought Lauren and I were done. I found out later she was testing me. She wanted something to hold over me because she was screwing around with Denny at the same time. I know I'm not innocent. I did some stupid things. I did have some random hook ups before her, but other than the deal with Heather, I was completely faithful."
"So she knew the whole time?" She set you up?" Olivia asked incredulously.
Ryan nodded. "Lauren was very manipulative. I didn't know that about her until much later. Had I known, I never would have stayed with her as long as I did. You had a right to be upset Livvy. I'm sorry I never told you."
"I never should have left Ry. Lauren intimidated the hell out of me, but more than that, she blindsided me. I'm sorry I let her in, but I'm even more sorry that I left."
"I understand why you did. You needed some space. I would never deny you that."
"No. I needed to stay and talk things out. I get mad at you for not opening up, but then I take off instead of talking it out. That wasn't fair."
"Are we okay Livvy?" He asked, finally taking her hand.
"We're okay." She replied, squeezing his hand. "I love you Ry."
"I love you too Livvy. Is there anything you want to know? If there is just ask." He said.
"No, but can we not talk about Lauren anymore? I'm really tired of hearing her name." Olivia sighed.
"What do you want to talk about then?" He asked, inching closer to her.
"I'm talked out. Do we even need to talk anymore right now?" Her lips were inches from his.
"Then shut up and kiss me." He laughed, closing the last few inches between them, as he pressed his lips to hers.
It's a shame how bad the fighting sucked, because the making up was so much fun.
