Marmalade

Our cat, Marmalade, was a black cat with a white spot on her forehead. When we found her last year she wasn't even as big as my hand. She was in the gutters, hiding from a very big storm. A few trees fell down, but not too much damage was done. Kan and I had pleaded and pleaded and pleaded our mother to keep him and she eventually gave in. Kan and I were very excited, because we had never had a cat before, or any other pet, for that matter. Every morning we wondered what to name her. Then, one day, Mom was making Kan and me a sandwich for school lunch, and she left the marmalade jar uncovered. When we came home from school, mom wasn't there, and Marmalade was on the floor with the marmalade jar between her paws, empty. That day we decided that she would be called "Marmalade". The entire family, and some of our friends, now knew to keep the marmalade jar covered, since Marmalade would just eat it all. The weekend after that, Mom and Dad decided to take us on a picnic, since it was a nice day. We had to drive a long way, since in Vegas there are tons of buildings, so we drove for an hour, and found the perfect spot. Marmalade was chasing butterflies, just like a kitten would, and the family was eating sandwiches. Dad was eating a ham, lettuce, and mustard sandwich, Mom had a PB&J, and Kan and I both had a marmalade sandwich. Marmalade was always trying to catch some marmalade that dropped off Kan's sandwich, so when he was full, he let Marmalade have the rest of his sandwich. Marmalade also licked of Kan's hands. "This is so...weird." He remarked. "Maybe you should tie or weave some grass together as a makeshift toy." Mom suggested. "It would rip instantly." I said, giggling. "You could use twigs and small branches from the weeping willow over there." Dad said, pointing to a tree about 30 yards away. I ran over to collect some tree branches, and scared off some birds hiding in the tall grass. It was weird being underneath the tree, almost like a small hut. It was a bit creepy, and a wind started blowing rather hard. I was scared, so I sprinted back to our picnic site just in time to see Dad's hat blow off. I deposited the sticks on the picnic blanket and ran after the hat. I got it and brought it back to Dad. "Here...you go." I said, out of breath. "Thanks, sweetie." Dad said, and put his hat back on. Mom and Kan where having a hard time refraining from laughing. Did I look silly running after a hat? Anyways, we continued on as usual, and afterwards Mom, Dad, Kan, and I went to a park to play. It was a park with some tire swings and plain swings, monkey bars, and (my favorite part) slides! Marmalade liked the slides as well, apparently. She kept on falling over when she went down, though. Marmalade also attempted to go up the slide backwards. We filmed her on Dad's HDR-CX240/L Camcorder a few times, being cute and all.
