Episode 17: Hunted
"Okay. I see the camp." Nova said as she leaned into her two way radio, on top of a building and seeing the nearly destroyed Conversion Camp. Shades were still there, but in small numbers...but something was off about two of them.
The two guards were in front of ALL of them. Wearing black armor similar to Commander Shard's, and standing completely stiff like lifeless machines. Their eyes were different as well. One of the guard's being a violet, and the other being orange. Nova wasn't going to take any chances, so she grabbed her radio again and leaned in. "Be careful when looking for the ship. There's these two guards that look a little too much like Shard."
"Are they upgraded?" Talon asked, leaning into his own radio.
"No. At least. I think. They have the same armor as Shard, but have some kind of diamond on their foreheads. Kind of like your triangle, but not really. You can see the whole diamond."
"Diamond?" Talon asked. "Shades have that on their chest, but not really ever on their head." He said, scratching his head. "Alright. Macy and I will try and work our way around them to see if we can find a hangar with a ship inside."
Nova nodded. "I'll be your eyes in the sky." She said before taking position and aiming her gun just in case.
Talon then put away his radio before looking at Macy and nodding. Macy grinned and then turned her Everything Ray to ice and froze a nearby tree entirely to distract The Shade. The guards gasped and quickly ran over to it. All except for the two new guards that Nova warned them of. They merely looked from side to side with a nearly robotic motion and unison, before looking straight.
"Something's not right." Macy said before following Talon around the base, both of them looking all around to see if they could find a hangar. If this mission went by without a hitch, they could get out of the city and finally get some real progress with stopping this invasion.
Then, as if luck and fate finally seemed to go in their favor, they found an unguarded hangar. Talon and Macy snuck over and then both tried to open the door, but to no avail. Talon looked at the handle, before seeing there was no handle. He growled, swearing to himself before seeing that their was a scanner on the wall nearby. "Dammit."
"What? What is it?" Macy asked, tilting her head.
"We can't get in. Only a Shade's handprint can unlock that door. If you put your hand on it, you'll be shot with this chemical gas that causes you to pass out. If I put my hand on it, the system will recognize me as a traitor and instantly shock me with a thousand volts of electricity." Talon explained with his lovely exposition. I bet some of you forgot the smart as hell A.I. was narrating this, hmm? At least we're not a Shyamalan movie and ONLY spitting out exposition.
Macy tried to think before pulling out her blaster and switching it to heat mode, and placing it against the door, beginning to melt it. The vixen genius smiled wide and quietly celebrated before there was a hole large enough for them to get in.
But little did they know, there was a tripwire that both of them fell onto with a groan. Macy swore when the alarm began blaring into her ears, and Talon began to scream in pain because of the loud noise.
The two quickly got up, Talon still screaming in pure agony before suddenly...the alarm stopped. Everything was quiet. But they weren't idiots. Talon unleashed his blades while Macy took out her blaster, both of them ready to fight.
Suddenly, the two new elite looking guards marched over before getting into battle stances. One of them powered up energy beams, while the other took out a pair of orange blades. The guards charged, and so did Talon and Macy.
Another fight began. Macy constantly flipped or hopped off the walls while blasting energy at the violet Shade, trying with all her might to pierce through the guard's armor. But the armor merely cracked at each blast. The guard then shot out energy beams at Macy, but the clever fox dodged. "That all ya got?!"
The guard blasted at her again before suddenly unleashing a pair of blades as they continued blasting. Macy gasped as she dodged, shocked to see that this wasn't just a Shooter. Beginning to panic, Macy shot out a freezing blast, but the guard dodged and slashed Macy in the face before spinning around and kicking her against the hangar's walls. The guard marched over before blasting energy beams at her again, but Macy took out her Everything Ray again and countered the attack with a heat beam, forming a war of nothing but energy.
Meanwhile, the fight wasn't going in Talon's favor either. Blades clashed and clashed, both of them moving swiftly and fluently as they fought. But Talon could feel something wasn't right. Not only was a common solider given indestructible armor that his blades could not cut through, but a diamond symbol. Not a single Shade had that. This had to have meant something. These were new Shades.
"The commander will be pleased once you and your rebellion are destroyed." The orange Shade hissed before suddenly unleashing guards around their arms, but their blades remained. A combo of both Smasher and Slasher.
Talon gasped, stepping back as the guard charged at him. He quickly backflipped away, spinning his arms around as he flew into the air. "HOW ARE YOU DOING THAT?!? SHADE CAN'T HANDLE MORE THAN ONE BATTLE CLASS- WHOA!!!" He cried as the guard blasted at him, showing they were part Shooter too.
"Commander Shard gave us an upgrade that allows us to use all battle classes! Soon it will be transferred to all Shades. And you will fall as an obsolete traitor." The guard said before hopping onto a ship and then leaping into the air, punching Talon in the face as he tumbled to the floor.
Macy grunted as she kept trying to win the war of beams before seeing Talon on the ground. She growled and used all of her blaster's power, winning the war and completely obliterating the Shade into ash. She then ran over, protecting Talon as she kicked this new Shade in the face.
The Shade stumbled before slashing AND smashing her next to him. "Now you will-" Then, the Shade's head was suddenly blown into bloody orange bits, their body collapsing shortly after.
Talon briefly remembered his murder spree once the body fell and he threw up, groaning as he clutched his stomach. Macy went over, helping Talon to his feet. "Are you okay?!"
"Y...Yeah. I'm o-ok." Talon said before turning around and then going still to see the killer of the Shade.
It was a fellow Shade, but with a mask covering their face, with the mask having a golden visor that shined. The Shade wore black armor, which was dusty and worn down, but still looked functional enough. They wore a jetpack, along with a missile launcher on their shoulder. And finally, they had a blaster covered in orange blood.
