Chapter 22
Hello! I was going to end this story soon actually to start the prequel, but an idea hit me like a wrecking ball and now I have so much more to work with. Now please enjoy.
Nope.
Percy's POV:
The screaming started at high noon.
It came from the half blood hill. Everyone was eating lunch and it had been a peaceful day until then. The seven were carrying conversation before it happened. A girl who looked to be 17 came running through the borders saying that she was being followed. They all stood up immediately.
Percy turned to Annabeth, "Wanna take the kids back to the house?"
Annabeth glared at him, "No, it's your turn. I want action."
"Annabeth please."
"Nope, your children are not a scapegoat to not letting me fight."
"Wise girl-"
Clarisse came up behind them and split them apart. She wacked Percy upside the head. "I'll watch them, you go play hero," she said. She gave a look to Annabeth before taking both the kids and going back to her cabin. Percy didn't have time to ask her why because the rest of the seven sprinted off to the hill.
The girl ran over to Jason and Percy. She had platinum blonde hair and icy blue eyes. She wore a white shirt and jean shorts, both of which were too short. She was running so fast she didn't have time to slow down, and Percy had to stop her. She was hyperventilating.
"What's wrong?" Jason asked.
"I'm being chased," she panted.
"What's your name?" Percy said.
"Celeste," she answered.
"Okay, run through camp and look for anyone who's gonna help you, okay?" Percy ordered.
She nodded her head and ran off.
Jason scoffed, "You are very helpful."
Percy smirked, "I know right."
There wasn't much left for them to help with. Everyone had already taken care of the small pack of hellhounds that were after her. Jason and Percy got the honors of killing the last two.
Everyone seemed unfazed except for the girl who came running through, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Hazel glazed in the direction she ran off. "I've never seen her before."
"Neither have I," Annabeth noted. "But she's old enough where she would've been claimed already."
Leo shrugged, "Let's go find out."
~~~~~
Jason's POV:
They found the girl quickly, who was conveniently with Calypso. She seemed to have calmed down by now. Celeste, as they learned her name was, was sipping from a water bottle.
"You new?" Percy asked.
Celeste nodded, "I was instructed by my mother to come here from my dad's house."
"So," Jason started, "you look a lot older than 13, do you already know your godly parent?"
She nodded again, "Aphrodite."
Next to him, Piper looked disgusted. His dear fiance was a kind person who was always nice to new kids, but judging by how she dressed alone, she looked like another Drew.
Annabeth picked up, "So... you knew you were a demigod, but you still have never been to camp?"
Celeste nodded for the third time, "I came from my house in the Hamptons. My dad thought he could protect me from monsters, so I stayed there. It got a little out of hand, so I left."
Frank said, "Well we're glad you got here safely. I assume you know about the whole Greek gods, mythology is real, etc.?"
"Yeah," Celeste said.
Leo smirked, "Well, Piper here is your half sister, so she can show you around."
Piper put on a small smile. Jason could tell she wasn't happy that Leo threw her under the bus. Annabeth saw this too.
"I can go with you guys," she offered. Piper's shoulders relaxed and she looked eternally grateful. "I'm Annabeth by the way."
"I'm Leo."
"Frank."
"Hazel."
"Calypso."
"Percy."
"Jason."
"Piper."
"Nice to know," Celeste noted. She stood up and went next to Annabeth and Piper.
Calypso spoke, "Oh- by the way, I'm Leo's girlfriend, Percy and Annabeth are married, Jason and Piper are engaged, and Frank and Hazel are dating."
Celeste frowned a bit, "Okay. Also um," she glanced at Annabeth, "What's on your neck?"
Annabeth tensed, "Long story."
Celeste glanced at Percy, then back to Annabeth. "Does he beat you or something?"
Hazel and Piper's hands flew to their chests and they both gasped. Frank and Leo started coughing, Calypso avoided all eye contact, Jason just stood there shocked, and Annabeth looked disgusted and offended, so did Percy.
"Of course he doesn't!" Annabeth snarled. "He wouldn't lay such a finger on me. It wouldn't be your business anyways."
"Percy's would never," Hazel said, fanning her face.
"She'd beat his ass if he did," Piper reminded.
Percy just stood there marveled. Jason would admit, it would hurt his pride if the first thing someone assumed about him was that he was a wife beater.
Annabeth smiled, "You know what, you two can go alone." Her and Percy walked away from the rest of them.
"Um," Piper started, "give me a minute, then we can go." She turned to Jason and pulled him away from the rest of the group. She turned back to him. "Listen, I don't trust this girl from the Hamptons, but please don't let her get near you, okay?"
"Why-"
"Because I can sense it now she'd gladly kiss you! So keep your distance."
Jason laughed and kissed her, "Okay, Pipes. I think you should be more worried about Percy and Annabeth than me, but I will stay away."
"I still can't believe someone could look at Percy and think that he'd beat Annabeth."
"I think Annabeth's pride was more hurt than his, the fact that the new girl pointed it out and that it made her sound weak."
"Yeah, I'm gonna check in on her after because I want to get this tour done as fast as possible."
"Then start now," Jason kissed her softly. "I love you, Pipes."
"Love you too, Sparky."
She ran off to Celeste and started to show her around. The rest of their friends had dissipated, leaving Jason alone. He decided he would go check on Percy.
Conveniently, Leo and Frank went to the Jackson's house as well. They were sitting in the living room. Annabeth had Luke pressed up against her chest, his head on her shoulder. Jason assumed that he had just woken up from a nap, or something like that. It was the most domesticated he had seen her. Nico was also there with them, who was surprisingly holding Silena. Nico was always slightly awkward around them, probably because he hadn't really had experience with babies. He did have a soft spot for Silena though, but it would be the last thing he would admit.
Leo was the first to notice him. "Oh look," he laughed, "Lover Boy's here."
Jason said down next to him. "Don't call me Lover Boy."
"Well you are!" he argued.
Frank recalled, "Your wedding is what, 3 months away?"
"I'd be scared if I were you," Nico stated.
"I can agree to that," Percy smirked, "They say it's the end of a man's life and I can fully agree."
Annabeth threw the nearest shoe at him, "Hey!"
"I'm kidding."
Annabeth rolled her eyes and stood up, "Whatever, I'm gonna go find Clarisse, she said she wanted to talk."
Percy cocked his head, "About what?"
"Just to talk I think," she shrugged. "Bye boys."
A medley of goodbyes was heard around the room, and she walked out the door.
Leo rubbed his hands together, "Now where were we."
~~~~~
Annabeth's POV:
Annabeth walked into Clarisse's house without knocking, it was something that the older demigods did a lot. Clarisse was sitting at the kitchen table with a bowl of pretzels in front of her.
"Sup, Princess," she greeted.
"Hey," Annabeth responded. "Where's Chris?"
"Out sparing or something like that."
"And you aren't with him because...?"
Clarisse sucked in a breath, "You might wanna sit down for that one."
Annabeth plopped down on the couch, Clarisse joined her. "Spill."
Clarisse twisted her beaded necklace, "Um, I'm kinda sorta... pregnant."
Annabeth gasped and smiled, "Really?!"
"Calm down, Wise Girl, yes I am."
"Oh this is amazing, congrats! How far along are you?" she asked, quite elated.
Clarisse pressed her lips together. "Uh, about 3 months..."
"You waited this long to tell us?!"
"I knew Chris wouldn't let me fight, I can't just not fight! I figured out kind of late because my period is already wack, but that was right before the gods came. Can you imagine if me, the prized and blessed child of Ares, wasn't fighting when he was there for a month?!"
Annabeth shrugged, "Okay true, but that's not safe! And when did Chris find out?"
"About a week ago."
"Damn, well- wait- you were drinking while you were pregnant?!"
She cocked her head and thought for a second before shrugging like it was no big deal. "Yeah I guess I was."
"Clarisse! That could've killed it!"
"Well clearly it's fine," she laughed.
"Just don't do it anymore, and you're lucky you managed to keep it a secret for so long. I told Percy right away and I wasn't even a month along. He stopped me from training right after that, and it took me 9 months to be able to do it again because mine came a month early. You should be good to go by the end of the year."
"I want to start again as soon as it gets out of me," she frowned.
Annabeth laughed, "Yeah, no."
"Why-"
"Because they rip yourself and it hurts, then u get stitches and those hurt-"
Clarisse shivered, "Too much information."
Annabeth shrugged, "You would've figured it out eventually, and at least you could get an epidural, they have those here now."
She scoffed, "I don't need one."
Annabeth stared at her, "I thought the same, and I really wish I could've gotten one."
Clarisse took Luke away from Annabeth and set him in her lap. "Who knew something so small could be so problematic."
"It's worth it, honestly. I wouldn't trade it for the world."
Clarisse stayed quiet for a little bit before speaking. "Silena would've been so happy about this."
Annabeth gave a sad smile, "She would have."
"She always told me that she wanted to marry Charlie and have as many kids as she could and that she would be a stay at home mom. The second I figured out I was pregnant... I couldn't help but think about her and how she'd never get to see the day." Clarisse swallowed hard, "And it was my fault she died. If I would've just listened to her and gone to help right away, she'd still be here. But I didn't, I let my pride get the best of me."
Annabeth sighed, "She would never blame you. Silena would want you to have what she couldn't. As for pride... I know more than anyone about that. Hell, had I not been too proud in killing Arachne... I wouldn't have fallen, and dragged Percy with me. But things happen and you have to move on and forget. And I know Silena would be happy for you, and she would've showered you in so much attention over it you'd wanna lock her in a closet."
Clarisse let out a small laugh, "She would've."
"Aside from that," Annabeth started, "Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?"
"Don't know yet," she answered. "I think we're gonna wait to find out instead."
"That's what we did. Next baby we have, which I'm not thinking about for a while, I think I wanna know."
"Makes sense."
Annabeth hesitated, "Did you ever... think that we'd make it far enough into life to have kids?"
Clarisse scoffed, "Of course not. I think that's why everyone that is married so far has gotten married so young. After you and Prissy got married, everyone kinda followed the trend of it. Part of it I think is that while we don't admit it, we have all come to the fear of dying too young like the rest and never getting the chance to, you know?"
Annabeth nodded, "Yeah. Percy and I got married fast too because there wasn't a need to wait. We knew we'd end up together anyways and we didn't feel like waiting. Only thing I wish was different was the judgment we got from it."
"That's why we haven't told anyone about the baby yet. I don't care if you know because you already have kids. You're the first Greek demigod to do so in forever. But I feel like everyone has this impression of me that I have no soft side and I will kill them in a second, which is true. I'm just nervous because I'm not used to having to sit out, and I have no experience with little kids. I didn't really have a mom either, she was an alcoholic and didn't take care of me."
Annabeth sighed, "That makes two of us. You get used to it though, it's like another sense. And you learn to ignore the stares and judging. It still happens, Hades, that one girl today had no shame or self awareness."
Clarisse sat up a little more and leaned in, "What's she do? Tell me about it."
"She's a daughter of Aphrodite and 17. Her name is Celeste and knew she was a demigod. Her father thought he could keep her a little longer at home, so she stayed with him up in the Hamptons. Eventually, it got too bad and she came here. Summary, she's a stuck up rich girl who's already sounding like another Drew."
Clarisse groaned, "Great. But what did she say to you?"
"She took one look at my neck and asked if Percy beats me."
"No, she didn't-"
"Oh, but she did."
"Damn, that's harsh."
"I hate it when people point it out," Annabeth huffed.
"I'd hate it too. I'm sorry that happened."
"It's okay. I just... I feel so weak from it. He pinned me against the wall and did what he wanted to and I just stood there. If Poseidon and Percy hadn't shown up, he would've done worse. I was just so... scared. Sure we had the occasional guy in high school or New Rome or New York streets who would hit on me or something, but I could always defend myself. It was so uncomfortable and humiliating."
Clarisse patted her leg, "Well you know I don't think you're weak, that's a compliment."
Annabeth laughed, "Thanks."
"Anytime."
~~~~~
Percy's POV:
The seven and Calypso sat on the beach with a fire in front of them. Annabeth was just now joining them because she was with Clarisse, and had been for most of the day. She sat down on Percy's lap and leaned into him.
Percy leaned into her ear and whispered, "I saw Chris not that long ago, he told me about their baby."
Annabeth smiled, "Yeah, that's what we were talking about. They seem happy, and I'm glad that they are."
"Same, he said so far we are the only people who know because they didn't want to tell anyone to know yet. Makes sense seeing we are the only ones who have kids."
Annabeth nodded, "I told her a bit on what she needs to know and that she needs to be more careful. She was literally fighting with her dad and drinking while she was pregnant!"
Percy laughed, "I'm not surprised."
"Lovebirds, you good over there?" Leo smirked.
Annabeth rolled her eyes, "Yes we're fine."
"Anyways," Hazel shrugged, "It's almost April, which means more spring!"
"It means it's almost my wedding," Piper reminded, doing a little happy dance in her chair.
"Our wedding," Jason corrected.
Piper shrugged, "Same thing."
"We are gonna stay in New Rome after your guys' wedding," Frank said. "I think we plan to stay there for the rest of summer with few visits back here. I'm still Praetor and Reyna and I have been gone for a while."
"At least you have an amazing senate to cover you when you're gone, that wasn't always the case," Jason recalled.
Frank smiled, "Yeah, you're right. Even so, the senate can only do so much for a certain amount of time."
Percy laughed, "I was praetor for a day and never understood any of that. Here, we just wing it and whoever can scream the loudest is in charge."
Leo agreed, "Pretty much."
"Being on Ogygia for so long, the last form of government I remembered was democracy," Calypso said. "It made it a little easier to understand the U.S. government and the Romans, but I feel like Camp Half Blood threw all that away. There is literally Chiron running this place and everyone else just does what they please and tries to not get killed."
Annabeth sighed, "Yeah, but I wouldn't want it any other way."
Percy gave her a small squeeze around her waist. They both loved Camp Half Blood, the idea of it being formal and having set rules was almost funny.
"I enjoy being her half the time," Jason admitted. "Growing up Roman, you forget how strict they are. It feels like a boost of freedom being here. But Camp Jupiter was my first home, and I love it there too."
"Makes sense," Hazel nodded.
Percy sat up, "Well if you will excuse us we have somewhere to be."
Annabeth frowned, "No we don't-" she looked at his face. "No."
He picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. "Percy!" she shrieked, hitting his back with her fists. "Put me down!" Jason and Leo laughed while Frank and Hazel turned beat red.
"No ma'am." He carried her inside the house and took her up to their room. The rest doesn't need to be discussed.
