United We Stand
True to what Huda had joked, they did not die in that cove.
He were exhausted, frigid, some of them frostbitten, some hypothermic,....but they did not die.
The emergency situation at the front was slowly getting better.
The soldiers temporarily posted there, were getting new posting orders, one by one.
It would only be a matter of time, therefore, before Lt. Amardeep Huda would get his.
And this troubled him. A lot.
'Shayad me eklauta bewakuf banda hounga, jo is jagah se dur jaane se aitraaz kar raha hai.'
He often thought to himself.
That day in the cove, Raj had told him everything. Because he feared that if he died, the proofs would die with him.
Huda being there, was a blessing to him.
And maybe, a curse for Huda. Atleast according to Raj.
After they had gotten out, Raj had taken a promise of secrecy from him, and told him where he had hidden all the proofs, in a digitised form.
But he was only to jump in, in case Raj couldn't come up with a plan, or incase he died, whichever came first.
Because Raj did not want to endanger any more lives.
Huda, however, had different plans.
They were filing some papers, in the filing cabinet in the main base.
Actually, Raj had been filing, given that job by a senior officer, as yet another insult, and Huda had wondered in after him, being currently free.
Raj : Maine aapse kitni baar kaha hai Lt., ye plan kaam nahi kar sakta.
Aap samjhte kyu nahi hai?
Aap ko kya lagta hai, ye mere dimaag me nahi aaya hai ab tak?
Aur...aur aap yu..is tarah..!..
(He poked his head out of the cabinet, and looked right and left, making sure there wasn't anyone spying.
Then he shut the door, and grabbed Huda by the collar.)
Huda, tum samjhte kyu nahi.
Jitne logo ko pata chalenga, utne logo ki jaan...
He ran his fingers through his hair in frustration
Look, we cant do this. We just....can't!
Huda : Par sirji, yahi ek raaste hai, aap kyu nahi samjhte.
Aur,...ham saavdhani se karenge.
Aap...aap ek baar ha to kijiye.
Raj turned back to his filing, without answering Huda.
Huda : Thik hai sir,
Par ek baat aaphi ne sikhai thi.
We are a part of a whole. The nation is a whole. And no part can be greater than the whole.
Agar ham wait karte rahe, kyunki is plan me chand soldiers ki jaan shayad ja sakti hai, aur....aur wo log,..desh ko nuksaan pohchate rahe...to..to kya faayda hamare sipahi hone ka?
Saying this, he took one last look at Raj, who still had his back turned towards him, and left.
Raj smacked the files he had in his hand, hard on the table in anger, and sat down on a chair, with his hands in his hair, torn between the desire to bring Lala Gehlot and his cronies to book, and his desire to protect 6 of his former students, who he knew, wouldn't fail him, if he turned to them.
He had had this tought, many times since the past 1 year, but had always dismissed it, thinking it was too dangerous, knowing that anyone involved would have a sure shot chance at the lottery of winning a violent death.
For the first time, however, he found himself seriously thinking he will let them know, after all.
After all, they were his last resort.
