Chapter Three, Whose Castiel?

Chapter Three, Whose Castiel?

After driving four miles down the interstate, and many sing-songs later, Dean was finally parking the Impala behind Bobby's truck. Once the three Winchester siblings got out of the Impala and joined Bobby on the front steps, their father figure raised his fist and knocked on the door. A moment later a woman dressed in biker clothes, with pin-straight black hair and blue eyes opened the door with a wide smile on her face.
"Bobby." She said happily, wrapping her arms around him in a hug, lifting Bobby off his feet a little that the three siblings shared a look at. "Aren't you a sight for sore eyes." She teased Bobby.
"Hi Pamela, how're you doing?" Bobby asked kindly.
"Just peachy." She replied. "These must be the Winchesters. My aren't you boys handsome and Harley you are one beautiful and powerful young woman. Bet you have all the boys after you." She said, winking at Harley who blushed a little while Sam and Dean scowled.

"Hell no!" They snapped.
"Two over protective brothers, honey, I feel sorry for you and share your pain. You ever need some girl time, you just give me a call." Pamela told her firmly.
"Thanks Pamela." Harley said gratefully, smiling at the elder woman. She knew she was going to like her.
"Mmm... Dean Winchester, you are one unique individual, out of the fire and into the frying pan." She said smirking, making Dean smile a little awkwardly. "Come in. Come in." She said allowing them in. "I've Ouija-Ed my way through about hundreds of spirits and not one of them knows what pulled your boy outta Hell." She continued, closing the door behind them.
"So what's next?" Bobby asked curiously.
"Well, I thought I'd try a seance." Pamela informed them.

"Is that safe?" Bobby asked, shocked.
"Perfectly. I just want to get a peek at it, like a Crystal ball only without the Crystal." She said with a smirk, heading towards a unit in the living room, grabbing a black tablecloth with a white pentagram on it and laying it across the table. As Pamela bent down to get some things out of a lower cupboard a tattoo on her lower back was revealed to Sam and Dean while Bobby and Harley helped Pamela set up.
"Whose 'Jessie'?" Dean asked, causing Harley to look up from where she was lighting candles around the room, shaking her head at her brothers.
"It wasn't forever that I can tell ya!" Pamela said, as she looked over her shoulder at them.
"I'm sorry. His loss." Dean apologised.
"Might be your gain." She said winking at Dean as she stood up.

"I am so in there." Dean whispered excitedly to Sam, who shook his head at his older brother.
"She's going to eat you alive." Sam laughed.
"You're welcome to join, too grumpy." Pamela told Sam, patting his chest as she walked past them. Dean whirled around to face his brother, a stern look on his face as he pointed a finger at him.
"You are not invited!" Dean said sternly.
A few minutes later all five of them were sat at a point on the pentagram; Pamela sat at the top with Dean to the left, then Sam, Bobby and finally Harley to the right of Pamela.

"I need to touch something our mystery monster touched." Pamela told them, causing Dean to jump.
"Well he didn't touch me there." Dean exclaimed.
"My mistake." Pamela laughed, as Dean took off his jacket and rolled up his sleeve a little revealing the handprint. Sam's eyes widened in shock as this was the first time he's seen it. "Alright, join hands and close your eyes." Pamela instructed, now touching the handprint as everyone joined hands.

"I invoke, conjure and command you, appear unto me before this circle! I invoke, conjure and command you, appear unto me before this circle! I invoke, conjure and command you, appear unto me before this circle!" Pamela chanted. Suddenly the tv came on but it was only static and the table started to shake. As this happened Harley heard a voice, a voice she hadn't heard before.
'Turn back. Do not request to see my true form! Stop! My name is Castiel, I implore you to stop. It is dangerous to see my true form!'
"Castiel?" Dean asked, pulling Harley from the sort of dazed trance.

"It's name. It's trying to get me to turn back." Pamela told them.
"Well maybe we should stop then." Bobby said at the same time that Harley said, "Pamela, stop. He's said it's dangerous to look at his true form." But either no one heard her or they ignored her as Pamela continued to shout, "Show me your face!" Over and over again. When suddenly, the flames of the candles suddenly leapt higher causing Sam, Dean, Harley and Bobby to leap back and a white light to shine from Pamela's eyes as she screamed.

"Call 911!" Dean ordered Sam, as he and Bobby rushed to catch Pamela while Harley went to get things to make her comfortable until the ambulance arrived. As she came back into the room however, she heard the same voice, Castiel's voice.
'I am sorry. I never wanted this!' He apologised, as everything went back to normal, as Pamela sobbed in Dean's arms as she couldn't see as her eyes had been burned from her sockets.

***

Later that day Dean and Harley were anxiously waiting on news about Pamela as Sam was currently on the phone with Bobby outside.
"Dean?" Harley asked nervously, stirring her straw around in her vanilla milkshake.
"Yeah? Rosie, what is it?" Dean asked, noting how nervous and anxious she was. He never wanted his baby sister to be that way around him. He wanted her to come to him about anything and everything.
"I heard him." Harley mumbled, not looking up from the table.
"Heard who?" Dean asked confused, his brow furrowed in confusion.
"Castiel. He told Pamela not to look, that it was dangerous to look at his true form and at the end he apologised. I heard him like I hear Gabe sometimes or those weird times when I get those really bad headaches. What's happening to me?" Harley asked tearfully. "I'm a freak!" She spat in disgust.

"Hey!" Dean said firmly, covering his sister's hand with his own. "You are not a freak, Rosie! You are my amazing, fierce little sister, and I promise you, we will get answers for your powers. And about this whole Prophet of the Lord thing. We will! I promise. We'll find out more." Dean said passionately, getting a small smile from his sister. "There's that smile." He cried happily, getting a small laugh from Harley as Sam finally joined them.
"Hey, so Bobby says Pamela is stable and out of ICU." Sam informed them, taking a seat beside Harley who was sitting by the window with Dean opposite her.
"And blind because of us." Harley and Dean sighed.
"I say we summon this - this Castiel and work him over a little and get some answers." Dean growled.

"Pamela got a glimpse of this thing and you want to be in the same room with it! Your crazy Dean!" Sam shouted. "What about we find those demons I followed to town?" Sam suggested instead, just as the waitress placed two plates of pie on the table. One in front of Dean and the other in front of Harley before she pulled a chair up to the table and sat down.
"Are you angling for a tip or something?" Dean asked.
"I heard you were looking for us." She said, her eyes turning black as did pretty much everyone else's in the diner as one demon got up and flipped around the sign so it now said closed, and locked the door.

"Mmm, Dean..." the waitress grins, her eyes returning back to normal. "To Hell and back. Now, aren't you a lucky duck." She continued sarcastically.
"That's me." Dean said cockily.
"And Harley Winchester now I can just smell the power coming off you in waves... oh, we know what your sister is, everyone in Hell knows thanks to yellow-eyes, but we haven't seen someone like you with your amount of power for an age." She said with a slimiest excited note to her voice, making the three Winchesters uneasy. "So. Dean, you think you just get to stroll out of the pit scot free, do you? Tell me what makes you so special?"
"I like to think it's because of my perky nipples." Dean smirked, making Sam roll his eyes at his brother while Harley tried to hide a smirk. "I don't know, okay!" He snapped. "It wasn't our doing and we don't know who pulled me out."

"Right," the demon said dryly. "Of course you don't."
"No we don't!" Harley snapped, feeling her phone ring in pocket. She knew it was Gabriel as he's been worried about her since Dean came back.
"Oooh, baby Winchester has some fire!" The demon smirked at Harley, causing Sam to shift in his seat so he was blocking his baby sister from view.
"You know lying's a sin, you know." The demon stated, the smirk never leaving her face as she stared through Sam to Harley.
"We're not lying." Dean interrupted, turning to face the demon a little. The demon looks between the three siblings before turning her attention fully back to Dean as he continues. "But we'd like to find out, so if you wouldn't mind enlightening us, Flo." Dean hissed at her, reading her name tag.
"You best mind your tongue with me boy!" Flo snapped back. "Or I'll drag you back to Hell myself and maybe take your baby sis along for the ride too."

Sam leapt to his feet angrily but Harley grabbed his arm and Dean held up a hand, both of them stopping their brother from doing anything stupid, as both Sam and Flo had a staring match. If looks could kill the pair of them would be dead.
"No you won't." Dean said confidently.
"No?" Flo questioned tauntingly, an eyebrow raised as she leaned forwards.
"No," Dean agreed. "Cause if you were, you'd have done it already. The fact is, you don't know who pulled me out and it scares the crap out of you. Just like we are." Dean's lips curl into a smirk as the demon squirms uneasily in her seat. "You're looking for the same answers. Well, maybe it was some turbocharged spirit, hmm?" Dean taunts.

"Or uh, Godzilla?" He suggested sarcastically, leaning forwards and getting in the demon's face. "Or some big, bad ass boss demon or perhaps, something worse than all of that put together. But I'm guessing at your pay grade they don't tell you squat." The demon becomes more uneasy as Dean gets closer to the truth but still she doesn't break eye contact. "Cause whoever it was, they want me out and they're a hell of a lot stronger than you." He finished smirking at how uncomfortable the demon is. "So go ahead send me back, but don't go crying and crawling to us when they show up at your front door with a firehose of Vaseline." He said cockily.
"I'm gonna rip your lungs out through your throat." Flo growled. Dean just sat there smirking at her before he leaned forwards and slapped her making Sam shout at him while Harley sat there stunned as Dean slapped her again when she did nothing and still she just sat there not doing anything.

"That's what I thought." Dean hummed. "Rosie, Sammy. Let's go." He continues, standing up and grabbing his jacket, Sam and Harley doing the same thing. Sam heads to the door but pauses when he sees his two siblings by the table as Dean puts down some money and wraps an arm around his sister's shoulders as they follow Sam out of the diner, the demons glaring after them.
"Holy crap that was close." Dean sighed, as soon as they were stood by the Impala. Harley tuned out her brother's arguing and answered her phone. She had several texts and missed calls from Gabriel all from the time they entered the diner.
"Hi Gabe. Sorry I -" Harley answered, but she was cut off.

"Rosie! Are you okay? I've been worried sick about you!" Gabriel exclaimed.
"I'm okay, just a little freaked out as Dean has antagonised a demon, an angel... I think his name's Castiel pulled Dean from Hell and made a friend blind when she saw his true form. Though he did warn her, I could hear him. And now Dean wants to summon him." Harley explained.
"He's my little brother and most probably went with an army to get him out and I don't think it's for anything good." Gabriel sighed. "How're you dealing with being with Sam again?"
Harley sighed as she got in the Impala, thankfully they were still too busy arguing to notice her conversation.
"Not great. I'm still really angry at him but I love him, you know. I just...hate what he did and how he did it." Harley sighed, running a hand down her face.

"I get it. How about once you've finished dealing with my little brother I'll take you out on a date?" Gabriel suggested, trying not to get too excited. "It's been awhile since we went on one and not just day dates, a proper date. I would say it's not a good idea to summon my little bro but he won't hurt you or Dean."
"That's a great idea, I'd really like that." Harley said, a wide grin on her face, causing Dean to look at her through the rearview mirror.
"Great. I love you Rosie."
"I'm starting to love you too, Gabe and that scares me." Harley muttered more quietly, almost in a whisper.
"I know sweetheart. It scares me too, but that's what's so perfect, and I swear to you I will never, ever hurt you again." Gabriel swore before they said goodbye and hung up.

"Was that Gabriel?" Dean asked, causing Sam to whip around and stare at his baby sister.
"Yeah, he asked me out on a date after we've finished with Castiel. He said he's his little brother and seeing an angel's true form will blind a human." Harley explained.
"On a date?" Sam and Dean demanded, their voices going up an octave.
"Yeah I have been on some with him while I was at Bobby's." Harley said, shrugging her shoulders.
"No. No, no no no." Dean said, snatching his phone out of his pocket and calling Gabriel's number. He'd put it in his phone after they'd talked before he went to Hell, but it went to voicemail.
"Just perfect." Dean snapped. "Gabriel! You listen here; I don't care if you're some tough Archangel, you hurt my sister, you die, capisce?!" Dean snapped before hanging up.

***

Later that night after a ton of researching and waiting for Bobby to get back from the hospital with news on Pamela; Harley had fallen asleep on one of the beds with books strewn around her, and Dean had fallen asleep on the pullout sofa with books strewn around him. They had been researching on how to trap an angel but so far nada. The two slumbering Winchesters were completely unaware that Sam had snuck out to meet up with Ruby as well as snaking the keys to the Impala from Dean's pocket. Neither stirred and remained asleep that is until the TV and radio both turned on playing static, hissing loudly as they switched between channels. They both blink a couple of times, moving slightly as they glanced at each other in confusion as they looked from the TV to the radio. A bad feeling started to take over Dean as he leapt to his feet only to grab his ears and fell to his knees at the high pitch ringing.

"Dean!" Harley shouted, jumping out of bed and rushing to her older brother completely unaffected by the noise as it wasn't noise to her it was Castiel trying to talk to her brother but the louder he got the more pain he caused her brother and that did not sit right with Harley Winchester.
"Dude! Lower your voice!" Harley shouted to the room. Now to anyone else they would be concerned for their baby sister but not Dean, no he knew she was trying to get the angel to lower his voice and he was thankful but it didn't seem to be working.
"You can hear me?" Castiel's voice said in wonder. "Maybe I've been talking to the wrong Winchester."

But Harley ignored him as she and Dean looked up as they heard a cracking sound only to see the glass ceiling starting to break.
"Rosie!" Dean shouted, pulling his sister down and crouching over her as much as he could as well as covering his head and just in time too as glass soon rained down upon them. A second later the door was flung open causing the pair to look up, spotting their surrogate father standing in the doorway.
"Harley! Dean!" Bobby shouted, running into the room and helping the pair up and out of the room just as the rest of the ceiling and windows caved in due to the noise. The trio quickly made it to Bobby's car, the elder man treating his surrogate children from the wounds they had sustained from the raining glass and Dean's bleeding ears.

Once Bobby was sure they were alright they all piled into the car, with Bobby taking off at a breakneck speed.
"How're you both now?" Bobby questioned.
"Aside from the church bells ringing in our ears we're supper." Dean said sarcastically. While Dean was on the phone to Sam, Harley told Bobby all that had happened since they parted ways that morning including the phone call she had with Gabriel and Dean's message he left the Archangel.
"Still overprotective, huh?" Bobby asked, smothering a laugh. Though he had to admit to himself he would've done the same; he has done the same thing.
"Tell me about it." Harley said dryly, rolling her eyes, as she listened to Dean's conversation with Sam.

"Bobby's back, yeah, him, me and Harley are going to get a beer." Bobby's head whips around to Dean in confusion, while Harley just shakes her head at her brother, the older Winchester holds up his hand to Bobby. "Done. Yeah. I'll catch you later." He hangs up the phone.
"Why the hell didn't you tell him?" Bobby questions immediately.
"Cause he'd just try and stop us. We may know who and what Castiel is but what we don't know is the 'why?' It's time we summon him." Dean replies, looking down at Harley for support which she readily gave him with a nod and a smile, Dean smiled back and kissed her forehead. Bobby gives him a disbelieving look. "You can't be serious."
"As a heart attack." Dean said, smirking. "It's high noon, baby." Harley punched his arm. "Ow! What was that for?!"

"Do not joke about your death Dean. I can't go through that again! I just can't!" Harley shouted, tears in her eyes.
"I'm sorry Rosie." Dean apologised, pulling his sister into his arms as much as he could while in the car, closing his eyes and kissing her head. He didn't realise his death had affected her so much, although he should've realised from what Bobby told him. "I'm so sorry Rosie I never meant to leave you and I promise I'll make up for it, little sis. I love you."
"I love you too Dean." Harley whispered, wiping away her tears.
Bobby smiled, casting a look at the pair before turning his eyes back on the road. Dean's death and Sam ditching her had almost destroyed Harley, she didn't eat, didn't sleep and had terrible nightmares for months after Dean died and he never wanted to see his daughter like that again. It killed him, not being able to fix it.

He'll save his lecture for when they get there, for now he'll let them make up for lost time. Everyone always thought Dean and Harley were Irish twins with how close they were, he was glad they could get back to that. He only wished Sam would fix his relationship with his siblings, but he knew it would take time. Especially with Sam sneaking off.

They had arrived at an old barn and immediately got to work. They were painting all manner of symbols and traps on the walls, the floor, and anywhere they could reach really, as they weren't sure what could trap an angel or if anything could as apart from Gabriel nobody has ever seen an angel. Once they'd finished the two Winchesters set up a table full of an assortment of weapons as a fail safe. Standing in front of the table side by side the brother and sister watched as Bobby muttered the summoning spell. Except nothing happened.
"You sure you did the ritual right?" Dean asked, Bobby gave him a look while Harley laughed and shook her head at her brother. "Sorry." Dean muttered.

The barn doors suddenly started rumbling loudly, the three within looked around cautiously prepared for anything to happen with everything they had. The roof tiles started flapping up and down, adding to the already loud noise as a wind started whirling in and outside the barn. Dean and Harley stand up, grabbing a shotgun.
"Wishful thinking, but maybe it's just the wind." Dean shouts over the noise.
"If you believe that you're an idiot!" Harley shouts over the noise, while Bobby just gives him an incredulous look. The light behind them suddenly exploded causing Harley to scream in surprise as the three ducked and covered their heads as more lights started exploding when the barn doors were thrown wide open.

Standing in the doorway is a man wearing a tan  coloured trench coat over a black suit with a white shirt and blue tie. His light blue eyes planted firmly on the men and women as he saunters in. His dark hair styled wildly, reminding Harley of Dean when he had just woken up. Dean, Harley and Bobby open fire on the strange man. The bullets seemingly have no effect on the man as he continues walking forward. The three exchange a glance before putting down their guns. Dean grabs Harley, keeping her behind him as he picks up the demon knife and hides it behind his back, the man watching his movements.
"Who are you?" Dean demands, making sure his sister is safely behind him. He knows she's one hell of a fighter but first he'd rather protect her.
"I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition." The man, obviously Castiel, answers in an almost casual tone.

"You're Castiel." Harley stated.
"Yes."
"Yeah. Thanks for that." Dean said sarcastically, before slamming the demon knife in the man's chest. Castiel stares at him unflinchingly before lowering his gaze to the knife in his chest like it was an unfortunate irritation. He grips the handle and pulls it out of his chest slowly before dropping it to the floor like nothing happened. Dean's eyes widen and he looks at his sister and Bobby in a panic. Bobby, in an attempt to protect his surrogate children swings his machete but unfortunately Castiel grabs the blade, and places two fingers on Bobby's forehead. The hunter's eyes roll into the back of his head and he falls to the ground, limp.
"Bobby!!!" Harley and Dean shout worriedly, Castiel just watches Bobby collapse with an expressionless face. Harley went to run to her surrogate father but Dean caught her wrist.
"Harley stay back." Dean said tightly.

"Harley Winchester? As in Harlene Winchester?" Castiel asked almost as if he was curious, tilting his head like a confused puppy.
"Yes." Harley replied, glaring defiantly at him.
"You are a Prophet of the Lord, I really should have spoken to you." He said with a semblance of emotion, before he became emotionless once again. "Dean, Harley we need to talk. Alone." He said, with a pointed look at the unconscious Bobby. As soon as he finished speaking Harley and Dean ran to Bobby and started checking for a pulse
"Your friend is alive." Castiel assured.
"Are you really an Angel of the Lord?" Dean and Harley asked together, their posture the same as they stood up with their arms crossed. Castiel looked at them curiously, obviously wondering how they knew but he quickly brushed it off.

"Yes." Lightning flashes suddenly that brightly lights up the whole barn, as a silhouette of two large wings sprout out from behind Castiel's back. Dean nods his head a little, while Harley looks at them in awe.
"Some Angel you are." Dean spits. "You burned out that poor woman's eyes." Castiel looks down, almost seemingly regretful of his actions before opening his mouth to defend himself.
"I warned her not to spy on my true form." He speaks mournfully about Pamela. "It can be overwhelming to humans. And so can my real voice...but you already knew that. The only one who could hear me was Harlene."
"It's Harley." Harley told him.

"So, the gas station and the motel?" Dean questions without blinking. "That was you talking?" Castiel nods in agreement. "Buddy, next time, listen to my sister and lower the volume."
Castiel glances down again. "That was my mistake." He apologises quickly. "Certain people... special people, like your sister... can perceive my true visage. I thought you would be one of them, I was unaware of your sister's presence in the room, until she spoke to me. I was wrong, I should have spoken to her."
"And what er 'visage' are you in now, huh?" Dean scoffs. "What--holy tax accountant?"
"This?" Castiel questions. "This is...a vessel." He continues without waiting for a reply.
"You're possessing him?" Harley asked.
"He's a devout man. He actually prayed for this." Castiel answers without showing any reaction.

"And why would an angel rescue me from Hell?" Dean asked, purely bewildered at the fact. Harley looked at her brother sadly, she hated that he thought he didn't deserve any happiness or anything good happening to him and had spent her life trying to make sure he knew the exact opposite of what he thought. He was her hero, she's always looked up to him. In fact he was her first word.
"Good things do happen, Dean." Castiel said, pulling Harley from her thoughts, as he walked forward a couple steps. His eyes narrowed, in a calculating way.
"Not in my experience." Dean said through clenched teeth. "The only good thing I've known is my sister, and my brother until recently."

"What's the matter?" Castiel questions, squinting at Dean and tilting his head to the side. "You don't think you deserve to be saved." Castiel answers himself, still studying Dean before he turns his gaze on Harley and studies her. "Neither do you." Dean looks at his sister in shock, a determined look passing over his face before turning stoic again but it remained behind in his eyes. He will find out why his sister thinks that later and he will fix it. He won't have his sister thinking like that about herself.
"Why'd you do it?" Dean asks tensely. The air around them turns tense as Dean's words hang around them.
"Because God commanded it." Castiel answers. "Because we have work for you."
