Chapter Fourteen, Harley's Birthday

Chapter Fourteen, Harley's Birthday

The last couple of months have been tough for the Winchesters, but especially Harley and Dean. It seemed like they were on a rollercoaster that was constantly on a downward spiral. First; they found out Sam was still on Demon blood, then the Angels had Dean AND Harley torture Allister as they didn't think Dean could do it alone only for them to end up in the hospital due to Allister getting loose and almost giving up, they lost Pamela trying to save two reapers and stop a seal breaking and; finally, some stuck up Angel called Zachariah interfered in a major way and played on Dean's guilt, and his and Harley's hero-complex courtesy of one John Winchester.

However, Dean wanted them to take a break from hunting for awhile and with Harley's birthday coming up on April 2nd it gave them the perfect opportunity. As Harley had made them stop hunting to hold a small party for Dean's birthday, watching his favourite movies at Bobby's paired with his favourite beer, pizza, popcorn and sweets. Dean had been incredibly touched by the surprise birthday his sister had planned as tears filled his eyes, it was just like they used to as kids, and when Sam left them, and it put a pause on all the trauma he's suffered in Hell, and the stressful events of trying to stop Lilith breaking all the seals and releasing Lucifer. That night Dean and Harley had curled up on the sofa laughing as they watched all the movies Dean loved - including Westerns (which were his absolute favourite and secret guilty pleasure) - accompanied with Bobby, Gabriel and Sam.

Which is why Dean was so determined to make Harley's birthday equally as special as she had made his. The days leading up to her birthday, Dean, Bobby and Gabriel spent them planning the perfect party for Harley in secret, sending her away on errands while they brainstormed over the kitchen table; but not everyone was happy with that. Despite it being his baby sister's birthday and all the complaints he'd made over the months about how they weren't as close as they used to be, Sam made no effort in the planning and preparations for Harley's birthday as he wanted to get back to hunting and not waste another day on celebrating birthdays. To say the other three men had been pissed was a severe understatement.

So, after much deliberation the three men had decided to hold a party similar to what was held for Dean, the only difference being as soon as it got dark they would pause the movies for the moment and head out into the garden for a picnic beneath the stars (as Harley liked, no loved Astronomy) with foods consisting of her favourite foods of tuna pasta (or tomato for those who don't like tuna), beer and apple pie for desert.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" Dean, Bobby and Gabriel shouted as a sleepy Harley walked into the kitchen the morning of her birthday still in her Slytherin nightie. Harley startled until a wide smile spread across her lips as her sleep-induced brain registered what had been shouted at her as she took in three of her loved ones standing in front of the kitchen table which was laden down with presents and breakfast foods - (blueberry and banana porridge with honey tea for Harley, full English breakfast and a black coffee for Dean, chocolate chip pancakes and tea for Gabriel, and for Bobby he had a healthier option like Harley of weetabix and black coffee).
"Thank you." Harley beamed, hugging Bobby and Dean tightly and giving them a kiss to the cheek each before she moved over to Gabriel, who wrapped his arms around her waist giving her a passionate kiss while she tangled her hands in the hair at his nape.

"Hey! Hey, hey, hey!" Dean protested covering his eyes; Harley and Gabriel sighed as they pulled apart, rolling their eyes.
"Idjit!" Bobby sighed shaking his head, picking up his dark black, soul coffee and taking a large sip so he didn't hit Dean around the head.
"What!?" Dean complained, peaking through his fingers at the couple. When he'd dreamed it safe he finally removed his hands from his face. "Just because they're dating doesn't mean I want to see someone making out with my baby sister, whom I raised might I add!" He threw a nasty glare Gabriel's way who just smirked at him.
"Sorry Deano," Gabriel apologised but not really sorry at all which Dean picked up on and glared at the Archangel.
"Sorry Dee." Harley apologised kissing his cheek as she took her seat next to Bobby picking up her tea, taking a sip and letting out a satisfied sigh.

As if they realised there was only one seat besides Harley left and one opposite her Dean and Gabriel fought over who would sit in the chair beside her; Dean won (or so he thought). Gabriel smirked as he sat down opposite Harley nudging her foot with his own.
"Oi! No, no not a good idea! Swap, now! Wait, that's still not a good idea... er.... Bobby a little help?" Dean pleaded desperately.
"Just sit down you idjit so your sister can enjoy her birthday." Bobby sighed, taking another long draught of his coffee.
"Fine. Fine. Happy birthday Rosie, open mine first." Dean requested, kissing her cheek. Surprised but no less grateful Harley did as requested, opening the present to see a golden rose shaped locket with pictures of both Harley and Dean on the inside.

One was a tiny, three year old Harley perched on a seven year old Dean's shoulders, both with wide beaming smiles as they laughed happily. The other was exactly ten years later, Dean had taken Harley to a fun fair for her birthday and to cheer up, as some girls who had made fun of her for being raised practically by her brother, the pair again had large smiles and were sharing a large, pink and blue cotton candy. Dean had always been there for her no matter what and she had tried to do the same for him too. She remembered being told her first word was actually 'Bean' as she tried to say 'Dean', and her first memory (that she could remember and wasn't told) was that she would often follow Dean around. Dean was her hero. He never got annoyed at her when she followed him around, unlike Sam, instead he would grin and either pick her up placing her on his hip or wrap an arm around her shoulders depending on her age.

Harley was suddenly startled out of her thoughts when tears were wiped off her cheeks.
"I love it Dean! Thank you!" Harley flung herself at her brother wrapping her arms tightly around his neck.
"You're welcome Rosie." Dean smiled tearfully, rubbing her back soothingly, he hated that she had been put through such pain growing up, and a few months ago. "I'm never leaving you again Rosie, that's a promise." Dean swore, clutching her tightly. After a few minutes the siblings pulled back and Dean handed her yet another present which turned out to be his favourite chocolate brown leather jacket. Sam thought the dark brown one was Dean's favourite as it was their Dad's; it may have been at some point, but it wasn't anymore. Not with how careless he had been regarding Rosie and the yellow-eyed Demon. Harley had nearly died for pity's sake, if he hadn't been so hellbent on revenge she wouldn't have been put in that position.

"Dean -" Harley started but she was interrupted by her brother.
"Nope. I want you to have it Rosie." Dean told her firmly.
"Besides, it goes with the ones from me and Archangel lover boy, here." Bobby said gruffly, teasing Gabriel who only chuckled and stuck his tongue out at him. "Happy birthday sweetheart." Bobby handed her a rather lumpy parcel which turned out to be chocolate brown high heeled boots and a black obsidian on a silver chain. Gabriel's present turned out to be a beautiful navy, almost black, lace skater dress that came with a black leather belt and, black tights.
"Thank you so much I love them." Harley beamed, hugging them all tightly and kissing their cheeks and Gabriel's lips. "Where's Sam? Is he still asleep?" Harley asked.

"No. No, he's hunting." Dean scoffed, fists clenched in anger. "No, don't worry Rosie we're not hunting." Dean was quick to reassure her when he saw her crestfallen expression. "We are celebrating your birthday. We're going to watch all your favourite movies which will obviously be a Harry Potter marathon, the extended edition of course, with your favourite snacks, again most likely beer, skittles and sweet popcorn. Then when it gets dark we're going to have a picnic in the garden with your favourite food: pasta, tuna, one for you because you're weird and normal tomato pasta for us." Dean scoffed, grinning to show he was only teasing. "And apple pie and ice cream for dessert as we watch the stars as I know how much you love Astronomy."

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Harley cheered, running around the table to hug each of them tightly around the shoulders.
"We only want the best for you, my love." Gabriel told her tenderly, brushing his thumb over her high cheekbones.
"And I love you for it." Harley whispered, covering his hand with her own. "All of you." She added, reaching her hand to her father-figure and best big brother, Bobby taking her hand and Dean covering the top of her hand with his own.
"We love you too." Dean, Gabriel and Bobby told her, smiling happily.
"This is going to be the best birthday ever." Harley grinned, excited for the day ahead despite the hurt shining in her bright green eyes that one of her brothers would rather be out hunting than be with her on her birthday. Although, she supposed she should be used to that by now.
