The door of Hector's room was slightly ajar, swaying gently in the breeze coming from the window. Strangulated screams floated to his sleepy ears and he swung himself off the four-poster bed. Weaponising himself with a porcelain vase he cautiously set a foot out, then another until he was standing in the middle of the seemingly empty hallway. A gurgled sound was followed by hollow footsteps, echoing through the tapestry-lined corridors and filling Kingsley's heart with a familiar terror.
A red-haired man in bedraggled clothes tottered into the hallway, his flesh drooping obscenely from his face. As soon as he locked eyes with Hector, the man started limping in a horrifying fast pace towards him, each step shaking his form.
Hector's terror had rooted him to the spot and he could but widen his eyes as he saw the zombie-like man approach him. Suddenly, Avyanna appeared beside him, a revolver in hand. Before Hector to process what she intended to do, Avyanna's finger curled tighter and Hector heard no sound as the gun recoiled, and the lead pierced through the man's flesh, his palate and eventually his brain. His head bucked and he staggered backward. Then his eyes lost all recognition and he fell to the ground, crimson oozing out of his skull and making its way to pool by Kingsley's feet.
Hector looked in disgust at the dark fluid and let out a scream as Ava's mouth contorted into a malicious smile and she pointed the barrel of the revolver at him.
Kingsley woke up with a start, jolting into an upright position. His eyes flicked all over the room in search of the dead man or that evil doppelgänger of Avyanna. He was breathing heavily, residual panic still overwhelming him. He looked down to see that his hands had clutched a fist full of the sheets and that his entire body was shivering with fear.
Kingsley groaned and made his way out of the bed, walking over to the bathroom. He splashed cold water over his face, attempting to wash the gruesome memory away.
Walking out in a slight daze, still shaken by what he had just re-lived, he checked the time. T-minus forty-five minutes till the new Assassin from Wyvern makes the grand entrance.

Avyanna woke to the sound of a knock on her door and immediately jolted upright. The night of the rebel attack had made her ears sensitive to all and any noise. She opened her eyes only to be bombarded with the harsh beams of sunlight. Ava shielded her irises by throwing a blanket over her head.
The knocking persisted and she stood up, groaning at the effort she had to make. After several attempts, she managed to get the door open. Being so fatigued from God-knows-what, Ava didn't even bother to glance at who disrupted her sleep. She yawned and leaned her head on the door, almost falling unconscious in that upright position.
"Overslept, have we?" the voice seemed to get into Ava's dormant ears.
She immediately jolted to attention, gripping the door tightly as to not fall.
"No I've been up since hours." She persuaded while running a hand through her bed hair and barely managing to stifle a yawn.
Kingsley smiled at her dazed state and pushed her aside, walking into her room as though it was perfectly normal. Avyanna looked back at him and scoffed, "Excuse me?"
"Excused," came the cheeky response. Hector plopped himself down on her bed, his feet still in his shoes. She looked disgustedly at the dirt he had tracked into her room and now her bed. Ava would've normally just pushed him off the bed but she hadn't eaten yet and had zero energy. Also, the added disadvantage that Kingsley was practically double her size. So Avyanna had to make do with glowering at him from the corner.
"What do you want?" She rasped, her throat scratchy.
"Do I need to want something?"
"Considering the fact that you are you, yes."
Hector chuckled lightly and rolled on to his side so he could be more comfortable. "Consider me deeply flattered. But the reason I came in is to wake you up."
"As if anyone was going to miss me at breakfast." Ava scoffed while attempting to brush the matts out of her hair.
Kingsley shrugged and frowned as he said, "I mean it would definitely be a pleasant change but wouldn't pretty boy miss you?" Ava flung the hairbrush at him and that idiot had the nerve to bark out a laugh shamelessly.
"It is so easy to piss you off. Really, one doesn't even have to try!" This remark was rewarded with a shoe thrown at him.
"Goddamnit, Avyanna! A shoe? Seriously?" Hector commented as he rubbed his head where the boot had hit him squarely.
"The closest weapon that would hurt. I would've thrown the mirror, but it's quite a task to remove it from the wall." Avyanna shot back, the corners of her mouth twisting upwards. She went back to her bed and violently swiped the shoe up, making Hector flinch. She gathered up all her clothes straying on the floor and looked at him expectantly.
"What?" He questioned, raising his eyebrows.
"I have to get ready. Leave." With that, she pushed him out of the room and slammed the door shut on his face.
"Sheesh, thanks for the cordial farewell!" Ava grinned as she heard him exclaim from the other side of the door.

Avyanna walked downstairs to a mild commotion. Instantly locating Kingsley, she slid in the empty seat between him and Leanna. The Evermores were looming about the entrance, looking impatiently at the cobblestone pathway that lead to the Westbrook center.
(Play it noww!!)
The sound of hooves clacking on the uneven surface reverberated within the walls and everyone perked up. A gold-lined carriage pulled up into view. Everyone was standing up or reaching over the other to get a good look at who just came.
The snowy white carriage was pulled by five equally fair horses, none so much like Sophia. As the clacking noise came to a halt, the door swung open and a foot clad in a black trousers, tailored to perfection stepped out. Then the person ducked to prevent his head from hitting the top and slid out of the carriage suavely, something Ava couldn't have done without stumbling in a very unladylike fashion.
As soon as Hector set eyes on the newcomer, his face went ashen.
"Oh God no... Not him..." He mumbled.
Ava nudged him by her shoulder and inquired, "What's wrong? Do you know him?" Hector ignored her words and simply resorted to burying his face in his hands and shaking his head, all the while chanting "No, no, no, no!" ruefully.
She glanced once more at the boy who had just entered. Tall and lean, a mop of unruly cotton-white hair flopped sideways and a smirk on his face that proved he was well aware of his beauty. Avyanna gave Hector a sparing look before turning to Leanna.
Ava jerked her head towards the white-haired newcomer before she asked, "Who the hell is that?"
"Only the son of the richest, most esteemed families of Cennet. He's actually from the far East, near-about Wyvern. Yours truly, Diem Katz."
Avyanna's eyes widened at his last name. He was a Katz! That would explain the extravagant transport, the white hair, and the devilish grin. Before Avyanna could speculate any further, she saw he was heading towards them.
"Why is he coming here?" She hissed.
"Your guess is as good as mine..." Leanna concurred.
"Hector. Didn't expect to see you here." All three of their gazes shot to Diem Katz in front of them. He had one of his hands on the table, leaning casually. His posture and expression radiated nonchalance and a blasé vibe. But Hector's face told a completely different story.
Kingsley was so red it looked like he was going to burst, the veins in his forehead visibly throbbing. Apparently, Diem was enjoying this.
"It's been long, friend." He lolled teasingly.
"Not long enough."

AUTHOR'S NOTE:
Dramarama alert!
I'm so sorry for the long wait... The thing is that I usually write after 12, when everyone is asleep because that's when my mind functions the best, in the quiet. But lately, I was getting too tired and was unable to update.
I hope this chapter makes up for it!
Until then,
Toodles Cinnamon rolls 😘😘!
