Adventures with Arrows

I stare at the three adults in the mission room. Are they actually serious? Or is this some sort of joke I don't understand? I search each of their faces quickly, trying to find anything that lets me know if this is false. They can't possibly trust me that much already, even with the inhibitor collar on. Can they?

"You want me to patrol with Green Arrow," I ask, somewhat slowly, which was unintentional.

"Yes, and I might be involved somewhat as well but it might not happen tonight," Canary answers. I blink. Why? What's the purpose? There's a point to it really. No specific result that I would be aiming for. I've never simply just run around a city with the supposed mission being 'don't let crime happen'. Why the hell do they want me on this?

"Okay," I respond. "When?"

"You'll be joining me tonight, we'll go to the base before we start and Canary may be joining us later on," Green Arrow answers me. I nod but don't verbally respond. I'm guessing it's a test to see if I'll run away or to test my abilities. I eye Batman. Probably both actually.

(Timeskip)

I stand next to Green Arrow in front of the zeta tubes. Apparently, though no one has actually told me, we'll be taking the tubes to his base and then going into the city from there. I've never personally been in a zeta tube. Well at least not that I'm aware of anyways. I don't really know how it's going to feel. I'm in the same uniform I was in about a week ago, when I went on the mission to save the team. I have to admit I like the fact that I only have the domino mask and not the whole demon one. It felt clunky honestly and was just aesthetic. Well, it did filter gasses if needed but most of the time that was unnecessary. Green Arrow puts a hand on my shoulder, I suppress the automatic flinch.

"You ready kid?" I shrug and walk with him into the tube. We appear into what I can only assume is the supposed "Arrow Cave". Honestly between him and Batman there's no originality in the League. I can hear muffled music and voices and a lot of movement. Wait a minute. Out of all the places Oliver Queen owns and frequents I would have never guessed he would put it here. Arrow sees me looking at the ceiling where the noise is coming from.

"Sorry about all the noise but no one will come down here tonight," he tells me.

"I just didn't think you put your base underneath your club," I say without thinking, more interested in examining some of the weapons and equipment he has laying around.

"Yeah, it was the easiest place to," he pauses, turning towards me sharply. I tense. Fuck, I shouldn't have said that. "How did you know I have a club," he asks tone sharper and more serious. Well, too late to back track now, I think. It won't hurt anything for him to know.

"I know you're Oliver Queen," I admit, probably sounding sheepish. "I have for a while honestly, you were kinda easy for me to figure out." I can see him narrow his eyes. "I didn't tell Sportsmaster," I add quickly. My pulse starts to race. I don't want to get into trouble now. I actually want to see this city again. And it would be nice to train will Oliver as well. "I mean I don't know if he knew already or not but when I figured it out I didn't tell him cause I didn't want him to know that cause if he knew that I think he might have tried to kill you. Even though Ra's already knows that right? Cause some stuff went down between you guys and it involved one of his daughters" I glance at him once more. "Sorry Sir," I say and stand at attention. He says nothing for several moments making me even more nervous.

"You didn't want Sportsmaster to try and kill me?"

"No sir"

"Well then," he starts, "good to know. How long have you known?"

"Two years sir, give or take a few months," I respond. His nose wrinkles a little.

"You don't have to call me sir. And I'm not mad, just to let you know. A little impressed. Good to know you don't want others to kill me," he tells me. "You're a smart kid that's for sure." I don't really know how to respond to that, but I'm saved from having to try when his cell phone rings. "Well since you already know," he says before answering it.

"It's Ollie. What's up?" He has a short conversation on the phone that I don't really listen to but I keep an eye on him as I wander around the room a little more. "Well, I'm in the area so I can be there in just a minute," he says before he hangs up the phone. "I have to take care of something upstairs," he tells me, "Think you can behave yourself for a couple of minutes?" I nod and he disappears up the stairs. I make my way towards what seems to be the makeshift archery range. I just debating picking up a bow and seeing if I'm still at all decent when I hear a door open. I tense and try to melt into what shadows are in the room. It wasn't the same door Oliver went through. Finally, the person appears in the light enough that I can see them all the way and they haven't noticed me. It's Red Arrow. He's mostly in uniform but, for some reason has a trucker's cap on. Why the hell is sneaking around down here.

"Breaking and entering in your own base," I ask. He whirls around arrow drawn and ready to fly. "I don't think Oliver would appreciate you killing or maiming me," I say as I step into the light so he can see me. I have my hands up in an 'I surrender' way but I'm ready to move if I need to.

"He replaced me again," Red asks. Wow. That's a lot of insight to problems I don't want to be involved in. "And you don't even look like an archer," he scoffs.

"I'll have you know I was trained with bows and arrows too; I just don't use them much. And if it makes you feel better Batman probably forced tonight. Some sort of test I'm guessing."

"What the hell are you on about," he demands. I blink. I haven't seen him since long before the League caught me.

"They didn't tell you that they made me a probationary member of the team," I ask. His eyes narrow behind his mask.

"Wait a minute, you're Demon, that's why you're so familiar," he finally pieces together. I wave a little. Hoping he doesn't shoot me for the little shit I was to him before.

"Guilty as charged. Hence the inhibitor collar," I say gesturing to the damn thing. Its weird to admit, but I'm glad to be seeing the broad-shouldered archer again. He and Aqualad were always entertaining in a fight.

"I don't want to know," he mumbles before he starts grabbing supplies. He's moving quickly. And he snuck in here like he was some sort of thief.

"I take it you don't want the Green one seeing you for some reason," I guess.

"You know what when down with the Light, you should understand."

"To be honest the Light wasn't willing to share much with me and neither was Sportsmaster. Minus the fact that they were pissed they failed," I tell him. He stops and looks at me, seeming to analyze me completely for the first time.

"I'm sure you'll find out in time kid," he comes closer to me, and I tense. "I hope you end up good. You're a damn good fighter and the League could probably use the help." I look closer at the older boy. He looks fucking tired and as someone whose been tired most of their life, that's saying something. He's also a little beat up and I notice he's got a gash on his side that looks like it needs stitching.

"Oliver had to deal with something in the club. I'm guessing it might be a while since he's not already back yet. I can stitch up your side, I can tell you bleeding. I'm quick at it, promise," I supply when he looks hesitant. He just stares at me for a long moment before sighing and sitting on top the edge of one of the tables.

"The med stuff is over there," he points to a desk drawer. I retrieve the supplies and make my way back over to him. Red pulls his shirt off while I'm looking through the medical bag. My hands have found what I need but my eyes are focused on his torso. Despite clearly being on the run for a bit he still basically all muscle. He's also the first man, person really, that I've really found attractive. Which is odd and I don't know why I've had any sorts of thoughts like that. There's not much use for it. But, undeniably and unfortunately this boy, no man, is attractive and one hell of a powerful fighter from what I've seen and heard. He looks it too. Body sculpted into muscle by hard training.

"Find what we need," he asks.

"Uh yeah. Yeah," I say pulling the out of the bag. My face feels rather hot, and I swallow thickly as I place on of my hands on his abs to move him to an angle that I can reach the gash better. "This might hurt," I warn quietly before starting.

By the time Oliver comes back down, redressed as Green Arrow. Roy and all evidence of him being here is gone. I cleaned up the medical supplies and help cover any tracks of him. I am know sitting on one of the tables, the one Roy sat actually, kicking my legs back and forth slowly. Oliver seems none the wiser and he gathers his own gear.

"Ready to go," he asks me, and I nod hopping off the table and following him to another door, probably the one Roy came through, that leads to an ally. We scale the buildings and I follow Green Arrow as he begins the patrol. We don't run into much for a while but eventually we hear a scream and we both immediately follow it. Its another cliché. Two men having a younger, smaller women pinned in the ally. We're not on a very tall building so I just drop off of the roof and onto the guy closest to us. It scares all three in the ally. Before the man I landed on can react I send my elbow into a pressure point between his shoulder and neck and he's out. Arrow wastes no time in taking the other guy out from a distance and the girl takes off running. I shrug and use my grappling hook to get back up to Oliver.

"That was a fast take down," he comments. I glance at him.

"I suppose," I say. I'm not used to such commentary from a handler, especially not while still on a mission. Or patrol. Whatever. The night goes on like that. Us finding and stopping petty crimes. Its actually kind of fun, especially with Oliver making jokes and comments about those we stop. I follow him mostly, but I usually jump into the fight first, considering I was not given a bow and I'm much better up close than trying to use the dulled bat-a-rangs.

I'm still following Ollie when a conversation in French floats up to the roof we're on. He keeps going but I stop and look over the edge at the three men and then look across the street at the bank they're discussing. Once he notices I'm no longer trailing him he circles back around and lands next to me.

"What's up," he asks quietly following my gaze.

"They're planning on robbing the bank," I inform him. He raises his eyebrows.

"You speak French?"

"Fluently."

"Alright then," he says notching an arrow, "let's prevent these guys from setting off the alarm and waking up the neighborhood," he grins, and I can't help the small smirk that slips onto my face as I once again jump, this time using a grappling hook, to be the first one to take someone down. Unfortunately, by the time I reach the ground Ollie already has one of them down. Oh well. I flip, just for fun, and kick one of them in the stomach and then the head, knocking him out. I go for the last one, but Ollie once again beats me to it from the rooftop with an arrow. Fucking cheater. I make my way up to the roof and land next to him.

"You know, taking them out with an arrow is cheating when we're trying to see how many we can each take down," I say.

"Not my fault you don't know how to use a bow," he teases.

"Bold of you to assume so," I retort.

"Oh we'll have to test that later then," he says and the looks at the sky, dawn showing signs of arriving. "But not today. Let's get you back to the cave before the team wants to train or anything."

"Wait, you want me to come back and train with you," I ask him as we begin our way back.

"If you'd like to."

"I think I would yeah," I respond.

"Good, I'll talk to Canary about it. Don't expect to go easy on you just because you're a small fry," he says.

"I won't go easy on you either old man," my response draws a chuckle from him, Training with Oliver would be great. Not only because he's so highly trained and good at fighting himself but so far, he's kinda fun to be around. Like actually fun, not the kinda fun Sportsmaster rarely could be. I had FUN tonight like real fun. And I'd be very happy to do it again with Ollie I think, if it stays like this. Plus, there's the slight chance of seeing his old sidekick again, hopefully I won't have to stitch him up again. So, yeah, I'd like to come back and train with Oliver Queen.
