Chapter 31: Over
Celestia walked slowly delaying the meeting as much as she could. She couldn't help but smile, he loved her. HE LOVED HER! And somewhere deep down she really loved the idea of being in love. She blushed at the thought of him, god she felt so childish. She wanted to run back into his arms and forget all her problems. Taking a deep breath she walked behind the Three Broomsticks. She waited there for a while and decided it was best to leave, she turned to leave but her plan failed when she saw Rita Skeeter.
"Hello dear, I haven't heard from you at all, forgotten about me already? Don't worry I won't let you. Tsk tsk, Information that's all I have been asking and you have wasted my time. Now you will let me handle things my way. We will make sure Severus Snape hits the front page in no time. See all you have to do is get one of his hair and I will manage the rest."
Celestia looked at her in utter abhorrence. "I am not doing it."
Rita narrowed her eyes, "Sorry what? What do you mean you are not doing it? Did you forget I can still go to the Aurrors and reveal your well-kept secret?"
"I have had enough, I don't care what you do. I love him and nothing else matters, he said himself he would never hold my past against me, you want to go to the Aurrors then go ahead do what you want but I am not going to be your accomplice anymore!" Celestia turned to walk away but Rita caught her hand and pulled her back.
"You stupid whore, you were supposed to do what I had told you instead you fell in love, you better watch out Celestia I am about to ruin you completely." With that Skeeter disapparated.
Celestia felt lighter but she still was very much worried she apparated to her house. She walked towards the kitchen.
She sat there on the counter with a cup of coffee. The steam from the coffee rose up blurring her vision. She held on to the cup, and closed her eyes. What will she do now what was to happen now? These thoughts hassled her.
"Are you alright Celly?" Celestia looked up to see her grandmother.
"I have done something very stupid grandma." Dorothy could see the worry in her eyes.
Celestia and Dorothy sat in the living room where she told her everything that had happened between Rita and her also about Severus. "I can't believe you would agree to something like this, I blamed Severus for what he did to my daughter, but what you are doing to him is much worse. Atleast he told my daughter he wasn't in love with her but you, you are just...being cruel. Why didn't you tell me before Celly? I would have done something and that incident there is no evidence to it. You won't ever be in that situation to be taken by the aurrors, you can hardly remember the incident because your mother and I tampered your memories as much as we could. Rita doesn't have any prove except that she played you, your fear helped her." Celestia looked towards her grandmother.
"I did do it though am I right grandma?" Dorothy took a deep breath.
"Celly sweetie forget your past, it has nothing but sorrows there. Promise me Celly you will tell him the truth, he deserves to know what you did to him. Don't be the reason for someone's heartbreak. Now go, tell him! He should understand."
Celestia narrowed her eyes, "Does this mean you approve of our relationship?"
Dorothy mouthed the word no.
"Was worth a shot! Anyhow I am going to meet him. See you later." Dorothy hugged Celestia, "All the best, child."
She smiled and apparated outside the gates of Hogwarts. She remembered the first time she had entered Hogwarts and the first time she had met him, Severus. The rudeness with which he had dismissed her, and the same night when she had entered the wrong room. The time when she had broken his favourite collection of dreamless sleep potion. When they both had destroyed the jukebox given by Arthur. The first time when he had laughed at her joke. The beautiful moment when they had danced and she had passed out in his arms just before she was to kiss him. And when they had kissed, the first date with him. She smiled as she walked in entering the doors of Hogwarts. All the memories were rushing in her thoughts. The most beautiful and recent one being the one where he confessed his love for her. In all of these thoughts she realised something, she never once faked her emotions towards him she truly felt everything. She stopped right outside his door, and raised her hand to knock but halted. She took a deep breath. "I really love him!"
"Oh we know child." Celestia quickly turned to see a painting on the opposite wall wink at her.
She blushed then went forth and knocked. "Enter." She opened the door to see Severus pacing he turned to look at the door. Celestia smiled and walked in towards him, "Hi, did you miss me?" He didn't respond. She circled her arms around his neck. "Are you upset for the morning uh-afternoon incident?" he shook his head in negation then removed her hands from him.
He was acting odd. "I have to tell you something, Severus. But first what's bothering you?" She leaned up and kissed him.
"Sorry to interrupt you darling..." Celestia looked wide-eyed behind Severus there she was, Rita Skeeter. Skeeter walked towards Celestia. "I am so sorry I had to tell him, he caught me putting a letter in your room." Celestia looked towards Severus.
"Severus, please listen I, it was please, it's not what you think." Severus walked away from her towards the desk, "You can leave Skeeter."
Rita walked towards Celestia, "I told you I will ruin your life." She then left smirking the entire time.
"Is this true, what she told me, have you been working for Rita Skeeter?"
"Severus please it's not that way. Let me explain."
He raised his hand to stop her, "Yes or No."
"Yes at first but now..."
"Wow, I can't believe I fell for it." Severus had his hands behind him he paced, then he looked at her. "How dare you play with my feelings like this?"
Celestia walked towards him taking his hand in hers. "Severus believe me at first I did as she said but then I actually cared for you. My feelings for you..."
"Your feelings? You mean the ones you faked for getting the information out." He stopped and turned to face her. "Do you remember calling me heartless? I thought I was heartless too but now I know who was truly heartless, it was always you!"
He pulled his hand away from her. "Severus I really care for you."
"Enough! I don't want to hear anything." Severus walked towards the door but stopped. "Why? Why did you do it?"
Celestia thought for a minute, "I-I can't tell you."
"Brilliant answer. I trusted you when I told you about my life, not so that you could go sell it to an irresponsible journalist. How much did you make, huh? If money was what you wanted you should have told me." He turned to leave but Celestia caught his hand.
"Severus, I love you." Tears streamed down her face. "I really love you, Severus I am sorry for what I did."
He laughed. "Oh save your tears. Do you have any idea what you have done by giving her those details about my life? She will make me a laughing stock in the wizarding world! It's a good thing I never told you the name of the girl I fell in love with but she is not that stupid she can put all the pieces together, you have ruined my lifelong career and reputation. And you say you love me after all this you did to me? But guess what I don't love you, not anymore. Also by the time I am back I want you out of here."
"Severus please, I am sorry. I love you." He ignored her and walked out of his room shutting the door behind him.
Celestia's world seem to be blown apart she fell to the floor and cried till she couldn't anymore. What had happened was just devastating. She looked around his room one last time, just creating a memory of his room, a memory of him sitting by the desk, a memory of their first meeting. She had lost him, broken his trust, and broken his heart completely. She stood up and steadied herself then walked out of the room and towards the gate, There was no one there it was holiday season. She turned to look at the grandeur of Hogwarts, she would never forget this moment of her life where she truly screwed it up. She apparated to her house. She walked towards her room and cried herself to sleep, it was the worst day of her life.
Severus entered the Malfoy Manor, Narcissa was sitting in the study, she saw him enter. She told Trixy to bring him to the study. Severus entered the study, "I need a drink." Narcissa observed him but didn't say anything she went ahead and poured him a drink. He downed the drink and made himself another one. This continued for a few minutes.
"Are you going to tell me why are you drinking so much or do I have to wait till you vanish all the bottles from my bar? Did you have a fight with Celestia?" Narcissa waited for him to respond but he didn't. They sat like that for what seemed like an hour. Narcissa continued to read her book, while Severus downed drinks one by one.
She finally got up and took the bottle from him, "Enough, I can't see you drink so much."
He went on to grab the bottle from her hand but Narcissa made it disappear. He got up, "Fine, I-I will go drink somewhere else." Narcissa stood in front of him.
"You are not leaving until you tell me the reason for doing this." Severus looked down.
"She didn't love me. Her feelings were never real. She did it for money, or fame or I don't know. And I like a fool fell for her, her charm." He told Narcissa everything that had happened.
"Severus, I can't believe she would do this. I don't think she will do this on purpose and that to for fame and money? No way. Did you ask her why she did it, because we all know no one just simply agrees to co-operate with Skeeter without a reason." Severus looked at her and raised his eyebrow.
"Are you defending her? And I did ask her she won't say why, it's obvious she did it for money or to help her fellow journalist. All I know is she lied and played with my emotions. I am done with her." Narcissa scrunched her eyebrows.
"You are done? What is that supposed to mean? I thought you loved her, and look at you now you are saying you are done with her!"
"Yes I am done with her, I have no love for her or anyone else. I shouldn't even fall in love if I am to lose the person everytime." Severus walked out of the study, Narcissa followed him.
"Severus, please go talk to her. She must have an explanation for this." Severus scowled.
"I don't want to see her face. Also I have already lost someone I love don't make me lose a friend Narcissa. If you so wish to take her side then befriend her not me." With that he left. Narcissa was too shocked she couldn't believe Celestia did something like this.
Severus apparated to his house the anger he had for her the love it was too much for him.
He collapsed on the floor he couldn't believe he was actually crying for her. She just played with his emotions all a part of her plan. And he fell in love, again lost the one he loved. He broke every single furniture that came in his way, destroying his house. He took out a bottle of firewhiskey and drank. He decided that day that he would never fall in love with anyone ever again. He passed out on the study room floor with empty bottles of firewhiskey around him.
The next day Celestia woke up. She didn't waste any time with a swish of her wand all her bags were packed. She placed a charm on them so they grew smaller in size she pocketed them she took one last look at her room, she was never going to be able to sleep in that bed again. Where she had such lovely memories. She walked down.
"Celestia, did it work. Did you tell him?" Dorothy looked at her granddaughter who seemed to be lost, so very lost at the moment.
Celestia couldn't hold her tears. "It-it's over, I have ruined his life and mine." She walked towards the door.
"Where are you going?"
"I need to be away from here grandma, I don't know when I will return but I will write to you."
"Celestia did you tell him, the truth?" Celestia looked at her grandmother and shook her head in negation.
"I can't he deserves someone much better than me. Also he doesn't wish to see my face."
"If you don't tell him, then I will Celly!" Celestia hugged her grandmother.
"You won't grandma you will not tell him anything. I have broken his heart. I don't want it to die out completely. Promise me you won't tell him." Dorothy looked at her granddaughter seeing the sorrow in her eyes, tears flowing from .
"I won't go to him, but if he asks me about it. I will tell him the truth. Why do you have to leave? And if you have to then I am coming with you, I lost my daughter I can't lose you too!" Celestia wiped her tears.
"I must leave, you stay here. Don't worry I will stay in touch with you. I love you grandma. Take care of yourself." She hugged her one last time before turning and leaving the house.
Celestia walked into the office of the Daily Prophet. She knocked on Mr. Cuffe's cabin door. "Come in." She walked in. "Celestia, lovely to see you. I was to owl you, I need your help do you remember Lucas Dorn the one who use to work here? Well he got drunk and almost revealed the magical world to the muggles. He is currently going through a trail. I want you to cover it for me please."
Celestia took out a letter from her pocket she placed it in front of Mr. Cuffe. "What is this?"
"It's my resignation. I can't continue anymore." Mr. Cuffe took the letter and opened it and indeed it was her resignation.
"Celestia I don't understand, why would you want to leave? I am not approving this!" Celestia sighed.
"Mr. Cuffe, Barnabas you have helped me a lot. You have been there for me as a friend guiding me helping me, you practically built my career and for that I am ever so in your debt, but I don't want to have this life, this career. I am not worthy of it, I have spoilt this profession, ruined its reputation because of my personal reasons. So I am opting to leave. I can't stay here any longer."
"I am not letting you go, if you don't want to be here then I can arrange for a transfer to our other branch but I am not letting you quit. I have never seen Celestia Hamilton quit and today won't be that day either. I will arrange the papers for the transfer when do you wish to leave?" Celestia thought over it.
"As soon as possible." Mr. Cuffe tore the letter to pieces.
"Good, I will do the needful just wait it won't take much of your time thanks to the new technological wizarding advances."
Celestia walked towards her desk, she started clearing her files. "Did he fire you?" Cynthia asked she was one of Celestia's colleague, sitting in the neighbouring cubicle, sometimes Celestia wished she could fire her, literally set her on fire!
"Sort of." Cynthia smirked.
"It's obvious you never are here in the office, it was bound to happen. Now that you are leaving you won't mind if I take your cubicle right?"
"All yours." Celestia cleared her desk and moved aside.
"Miss Hamilton." The receptionist Sarah called her. "Mr. Cuffe has asked me to give this to you."
Celestia took it and walked out of the office. This was it. She was finally going to be away from all of it. She found herself standing at the same place where Severus had taken her for their first date. She laid on the grass staring at the sky, a sky full of stars. But today they didn't seem to shine as much.
She got up it was dark now, the dark abyss had engulfed the setting sun and rain clouds seemed to be approaching. She knew from now on it would always be a rainy season for her. She got up and walked to the edge of the cliff and with a pop she apparated.
