Chapter 1: The menace.
(All the Harry Potter characters and places belong to J.K.Rowling)
One year after the second Wizarding War the Daily Prophet seemed to have gained their reputation again, with hard working reporters and unbiased news, they were no longer under the pressure of the Ministry of Magic. People seemed to have come back to subscribing to it. Mr.Barnabus Cuffe the editor appeared to be making a Profit out of his Prophet! One of the well known and youngest reporter of the daily prophet was Celestia Hamilton, in just one year she had helped the prophet reinstate its status. Celestia had travelled to many places to discover newer Wizarding globe, she strived to bring all of the Wizarding community around the world to reunite. Her pieces were mainly for the masses, she was their voice.
After travelling for a few months Celestia found herself back at her desk in the office of Daily Prophet. It had been a stressful night for her as her best friend had set her up on a blind date, which she had seen from the Witches Weekly. Well the date didn't go as planned. Celestia ended up faking a sickness and left but she was burdened by too much of her work so she had a rather lonely wearisome night. And now she was busy dosing off on her desk when a file flew onto her table. She instantly woke up to the sound of it.
"Oh, good your awake then, Mr.Cuffe wishes to speak with you." Celestia looked at her colleague and got up frustrated and walked towards her editor in chief's room.
"May I come in." she asked. "Yes please, ah just the person I wanted to see. Settle down Miss Hamilton I have some work for you." Celestia quickly made herself comfortable on one of the chairs, she was still lethargic.
"Celestia I wanted to ask you have you received any threat or hate mails?" Mr.Cuffe asked her gravely.
"No, not yet, but I think I might receive some after the article I wrote on Safety of Gringotts declining, I tell you Mr.Cuffe I shouldn't have done it, it was just a slip off on their side, could happen to anyone!"
"No what I mean is has anyone threatened you for working here or...?"
"No, sir I haven't received anything, but have you received any such mail sir?"
"Ah....I.....NO!!" Celestia couldn't help but notice a bit of glitch in his demeanor when she asked him the question, his hesitation definitely caught her attention. "Just be careful Miss Hamilton. And oh I almost forgot, You are off all general cases I want you to work on a special one. You see Miss Hamilton the Daily Prophet lost its status because of a lot many things and now it is starting to gain it back, with your help we could take it one step further. I want you to work on the new workings of Hogwarts and how it is coping up after the war, you will be sent on this special assignment."
"But sir it isn't easy to roam around Hogwarts getting information, the rules have become more stringent. And the new headmistress is not like Dumbledore she wont tolerate any such reasons."
" Why do you think I have chosen you, Miss Hamilton?" Celestia was puzzled at this she starred at him. "I know that your grandmother and Minerva McGonagall were very good friends back in the old days, this gives you an open ticket to Hogwarts, don't deny it."
"Sir, my grandmother and Minerva McGonagall may have been mere acquaintances, that doesn't mean she will let me investigate and report on her school!"
"Well that's the thing we are journalists, we bring people news and if we don't find them we make them, it goes the same while making ways to get in. Come on now, this will be your biggest story ever, I will give you the entire credit for it, imagine what it could do to your budding career..."
"I need some time to think sir."
"Well, think, but think quick and think of your career and the Daily Prophet, its like your home now." Celestia nodded and left from the room, she collected her belongings and left from the office. She walked down Diagon Alley. She was too engrossed in trying to process what Mr.Cuffe had just told her, suddenly someone pushed her she felt something being dumped in the pocket of her robes. She immediately turned to see who it was but it was too crowded to see anyone, people were flowing in and around the street. She put her hand in her pocket, inside it was a piece of parchment.
Meet me behind The Three Broomsticks.
She read it and was in two minds whether to go or not, but her journalistic instincts took over and she apparated to Hogsmeade, she entered the three broomsticks and walked towards the backdoor. She stood outside behind the three broomsticks. She looked around no one was there, "Stupid, Celestia lets go and follow a stupid letter." She turned and was about to enter when she heard a voice, "Miss Hamilton." She quickly looked to see where it came from. And there in one of the dark corners was a dark hooded figure. "I need your help, Miss Hamilton, I know about your Hogwarts project, I need you find me something, some vital information."
She looked at the figure trying to get some detail about it. "What makes you think I will do as you say." Celestia put her hand in her pocket of her robe and gripped her wand tightly.
"I know you will darling, I need all the information you can get me on Severus Snape."
Celestia huffed "You are delusional if you think I am even doing such a thing."
The figure started laughing. "I know of your little secret Miss Hamilton, now would you want your father's imprisonment in Azkaban to go waste."
Celestia caught her breath, her eyes widened. "Who are you..?" the figure slowly moved towards her and slipped the hood back.
Beneath the hood stood a woman with blonde curly hair, she was dressed in green leather clothes and a magenta robe. "Rita Skeeter...what brings you here?"
"Darling feel privileged I am asking you for a favour and not going to the Aurrors."
"Why don't you find someone else to do your dirty work for you."
"Now now you don't want me to repeat myself cause this time I won't ask I will directly inform the Aurrors."
Celestia looked at the woman who seemed to be cunningly smiling at her. "What prove do you have?"
"Lets not forget I was there for the execution and you must remember me in this form." Rita stepped back and in a tick she turned into a beetle, Celestia just starred at her. Her memories started flashing in front of her, seeing the beetle during the execution and while she spoke to her mother always this same beetle at her window pane every night. She quickly changed back to her original form.
"You're an unregistered animagus why don't I go to the aurrors.."
"Tsk tsk, darling it won't be helpful for you when I tell them about that night and how..."
"STOP!!" Celestia panicked.
Rita started laughing. "I knew you wouldn't disappoint me. Now all I want for you is to find me all the information you can on Severus Snape."
"Why him?"
"Well you see darling I want all the information for my book that I will write on him. It will be my comeback they all will regret firing me. I need all the possible information I can get seeing that I can't get into the castle anymore and so many people recognize me and that Mcgonagall even knows of my animagus form, so I want you to be my eyes and ears. Why Severus Snape you ask... tell me a professor who is known for his prudence and his hatred towards Harry Potter all of sudden becomes the only reason that saved him from the Dark Lord don't you find it awfully peculiar, why would he do it I want to know the real reason."
Celestia was wondering what she had said made sense why did he help Harry Potter he was a Death Eater and he did kill Dumbledore. "Alright I will do it."
Rita smiled at her. "Good. I will meet you again when and where I will let you know." With that she apparated.
Celestia entered the three broomsticks and sat down in one of the bar stool, "Hi Celly, back again?" Celestia looked up to see Rosmerta the owner of the pub. "Yes, I am back Rose can I get something that will help me forget a few things."
"So do you need a weird guy memory forgotten or a bad life memory forgotten?"
Celestia just starred at her.
"Ok I think Firewhiskey will do the trick for it all." She turned and picked up a bottle of firewhiskey and filled a glass halfway through. Celestia grabbed the bottle from her hand and filled the glass to the brim.
"Hey girl that's too much for one." Celestia glanced at her. "Never mind continue." With that Rosmerta went to attend to other customers.
"Severus Snape, I have to find information on him, great just great!!" after a few rather large pegs Celestia made her way to her room she was living at the Three broomsticks as she always kept on travelling she didn't find it worth to invest in a place.
Next morning she went to the Daily Prophet she headed straight for the editors cabin. She didn't bother to knock or ask she just barged in. "I will do it." Mr.Cuffe who seemed to be engrossed in his book looked up at the girl, "Great, then talk to your grandmother and get into Hogwarts as soon as possible." Celestia left from the office and made her way through the Leaky cauldron and entered the city of London she took a bus ride and reached her grandmothers house. She knocked on her door. A frail old woman opened the door. "Celestia my darling come in." she hugged the girl and held on to her hand and brought her in the house. After a few minutes they settled down in the sitting area. "So, what brought you to this old woman's home, whatever it is I am so happy you came to visit me."
"Grandma, I need your help you see I am very much intrigued by Hogwarts and I want to write a book on it the problem is I can't get in if you could help me, I really need your help to get in."
"Oh that's not a problem I will speak with Minerva she knows you since you were a kid don't you remember Granny Minnie." Celestia tried to remember but her memories seemed to be rusted she couldn't recall parts of her childhood. "I am afraid not."
"Well then lets hope she remembers you." Grandma took a piece of parchment and wrote a letter to her dear friend Minerva Mcgonagall headmistress of Hogwarts school. "Hows your mother darling, she seems to have forgotten her mother all together."
"I don't know."
Grandma looked at her, "What do you mean?"
Celestia shifted in her chair, "She left, one day I came back from school and she wasn't there, no letter nothing, the aurrors said she possibly was taken away by the death eaters. Never tried to find out if that was true, sorry I didn't tell you about this, my life hasn't been the best for the past few years."
"Oh my dear you should have informed me I would have helped you, after your father..."
"Lets not talk about all of this, anyhow I was of age and I decided to travel to Asia I found many Wizarding families there who needed help, I stayed there for sometime and when I came back I met Mr.Cuffe editor of Daily Prophet and he offered me a job, life has been good since then." There was a sound that came from the window Celestia turned to see a brawny owl outside with a letter in his beak, she opened the window and took the letter, the owl flew away, she handed the letter to her grandmother.
"You should be happy she remembers you and she has invited you to stay at Hogwarts."
"That's good, I will be heading to Hogwarts tomorrow. Thank you Grandma." She got up and hugged her grandmother. "You said you worked for Daily Prophet, I hope your not like that Skeeter woman and meddling in things that are not to be meddled with. I am glad they threw her out."
Celestia looked at her grandmother and gave her a smile, "Of course not its for my own book." She hated lying to her grandmother but it had to be done.
"Why don't you stay here till you leave for Hogwarts I could leave you to Kings cross station."
Celestia started laughing, "Grandma I am not eleven years old for you to come and leave me I will be apparating to Hogsmeade, I will stay here till then, okay?" Celestia decided to stay at her grandmothers place, she sat in her room, there were so many memories she had in this place but she couldn't remember any, her mind was blocked by something. All her childhood dreams were speckled and lost. It was different she didn't feel like this a few months back when she was travelling but the moment she came to Hogsmeade things changed drastically. She rubbed her temples, what is it that I cant remember. She fell back on the bed and drifted off to sleep.
She was standing in the front of the wizengamot, "You're crimes are too immense to let you be imprisoned, we have all come to a decision, You Celestia Hamilton are ordered the death penalty by a dementors kiss. Take her away." She was grabbed by the guards and dragged. "No please stop, STOP!!" in front of her the dementors, they moved towards her...
She woke up with a start, panting she was covered in sweat. What was happening to her, this was the first time she had got a dream like this. Nightmare more like it. She packed her bags and walked down. "All ready set to leave."
"Yeah, thank you so much Grandma."
She hugged her. "Oh wait, I got Minerva's letter she said to wait at the Three broomsticks she will send one of her professor to bring you to the castle."
"Well alright then, Goodbye!" Celestia left from there and apparated to Hogsmeade. She entered the Three Broomsticks.
"Ah back again, this time what are you trying to forget?"
"Nothing Rose, just waiting for someone, anyhow I don't think one drink will harm anyone." Rosemerta handed her a drink. Celestia sat there at the bar sipping her drink. "Madame Rosemerta do you happen to know any Miss Hamilton?"
Celestia turned to look at the stranger. But there was no one there, "Maybe I need to stop drinking." She turned again to look this time it caught her attention, there was a small man standing barely could reach the counter.
"This is Miss Hamilton." Rosemerta pointed out to Celestia.
"Oh, hello Miss Hamilton I am Professor Flitwick, Headmistress McGonagall sent me to bring you to Hogwarts."
"Hello Professor, I am Celestia Hamilton, nice to finally see you, I mean meet you." Really need to stop drinking.
"Shall we leave then, we might reach just in time for Dinner." They walked out of the pub and moved towards a carriage pulled by thestrals. The carriage took them to Hogwarts.
"Well Miss Hamilton this is Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
"Its very beautiful."
They got down from the carriage and made their way inside the castle, he took her directly to McGonagall's office. "Sherbet Lemon."
"Did you just say Sherbet Lemon?"
"Oh why yes that is the password to enter the office."
They walked inside the office McGonagall was sitting by her desk absorbed in papers in front of her. "Headmistress, this is Miss Hamilton." She immediately looked up she saw a young girl in a suit jacket dress with an elegant hat that covered her face, Celestia looked up, the moment she did McGonagall got up from her seat and walked around her desk to greet Celestia, "Oh my you have grown so beautifully Celestia." Celestia could only smile. "Thank You headmistress."
She looked at her, "You look just like your mother. And Thank you so much Filius for your help." Professor Flitwick bowed and exited the room. "Come on now dear would you like some tea......or coffee perhaps."
"Firewhiskey perhaps?"
McGonagall turned to look at her, "My you have grown, to be honest, I prefer firewhiskey too, its just that it doesn't go well with biscuits so I resort to tea occasionally." After a few minutes when both the ladies had downed a glass of firewhiskey, "Its almost dinner time, but before that I will show you your room."
They started walking down towards the dungeons. Suddenly a tall black figure came in front of them, "Good evening Severus." The figure looked at McGonagall, "Good evening headmistress."
"This is Miss Celestia Hamilton, she is here as she is writing a book on Hogwarts I think I did mention about her."
"When did you start accommodating reporters at Hogwarts, Headmistress." He looked as if he just drank goblin piss.
"Well headmistress if I am not welcome here I might as well..."
"NO no my dear." She turned towards Severus. "Severus this is my childhood friends granddaughter she is just here to explore the castle I think we all can help her don't you think. In fact you can be helpful by taking her to her rooms they are down in the dungeons."
"Sorry to disappoint you headmistress but I am heading out at the moment I have some work maybe she could find her own way." He looked at her "Your room will be down the dungeon to the left once you enter it will be the fourth door to the right."
With that he left, Celestia turned to see the black cloak floating behind him as he vanished.
"Don't you worry dear Severus is a bit annoying we all ignore him, you will too in time, now do you want me to come to leave you there or will you be fine cause I have removed all the wards from the doors, we don't need it anymore specially after War."
"Don't worry I will find my way Headmistress, thank you so much."
"Will you be joining us for Dinner in the great hall, the students don't come for the next few months the school is still recovering, it will just be the staff members."
"I would love to but I think I will head for bed, I am a bit tired."
"Sure dear have a good night."
McGonagall left, Celestia looked around and walked down the dungeon, "What was it down in the dungeon to the left and once in fourth or fifth door to the right..?" she wondered as she walked down the dungeon and entered there were six rooms down, " Oh good, now was it fourth or fifth, or wait was it third." She stood there eyeing the door. "I think it was third." She opened the door and entered it was a dark place once she entered the candles lit themselves. The room was covered in green and black. There was a desk at the entrance to the right of the desk was a door, she opened it to reveal a huge queen sized bed. She dropped her bag and got in she was very tired, the moment her head hit the pillow she was fast asleep.
Severus Snape walked down the dungeon it was very late, he had been out for some work. When he reached his room he looked to the one next to him. "I hope this girl doesn't become a nuisance, the headmistress just welcomes anyone in Hogwarts, specially a reporter." He walked inside his room the candles lit up. He removed his cloak and moved towards the desk he went through a few papers lying on top of it. He finally decided to end the day. He got up and moved towards his bedroom door he opened it and entered but his legs got caught in something lying on the floor and he fell on the bed. He didn't fall on the bed, he fell on someone in his bed. Celestia immediately opened her eyes when she felt something fall on her she immediately picked her wand from the side table. "Lumos." There she was face to face with Severus Snape lying on top of her. "What are you doing in my room , Miss Hamilton?"
"YOUR ROOM, this is my room you said third door to the right."
"Arrgh Woman! I said fourth door to the right."
"Oh, I am sorry." They stayed quiet for sometime. "Do you mind getting up, I can't move." Severus immediately jumped up. He left the room and stood near his desk. Celestia got up and grabbed her bag and exited from the bedroom she walked towards the door. She turned around to apologize once more but the door was shut on her face. "Merlin this man is going to be such a nuisance. Also note to self need to stop drinking." She moved to the next door and entered.
"Lets not keep wards on the door anymore!! Brilliant work Headmistress!!" Severus was furious he didn't like anyone near his things and this girl was sleeping in his bed. "This woman is going to be such a nuisance."
