Personality

Miles isn't called Smiles for nothing. Hell, there isn't a thing he won't smile about. The wave someone gives him as he crosses the street, the cute girl who sits across from him in his classes... the miscut made in the surgery they were supposed to be observing... The list goes on and on. He's a clever young man and as smart a cookie as they come. A true prodigy from a young age as he excelled academically in quite a bit. Since he's always been out of his element, it's easy to see that he learned early on that he has to adapt to any situation he was put in. He's incredibly sociable and loves to chatter on endlessly with people he likes, always wanting to make those people feel good and laugh in his life. But when it comes to other people. The mundane, normal, Gothamites who spit on his shoes because he harmlessly wandered over their paths, curse his smiling face, and attempt to pick his pockets... he feels a real disconnect. Honestly, Miles feels a real disconnect with a lot of things. He finds things that he should be bothered by- just don't irk him like how they do other people. Hell, he loves quite a lot of it honestly. The way a blade feels when pressed to his throat when he's threatened (kinky), the pain that comes with getting beaten down (even kinkier), and the insides of a person suddenly out in the open (....). He's twisted for sure. But his heart is in the right place. At least right now, just pray no one rearranges it. He gives no shit, and don't expect him to take any either, because without a doubt he'd throw it back at you without a care in the world or regard for his safety. He's not at all suicidal, but Miles is more disregarding with his life than most. Which is why it's so easy to get him to do something, bad. Because he sees a lot more fun than he sees danger. He's also fantastic at distracting people from what's right in front of their face, his steady hands quick and definently effective in his line of work... and then some.

Background

Born and raised in Australia, Miles never understood what it really meant to belong, so he had no real problem with drifting. His mother, being a sort of irresponsible drunk, and his absent abroad father never really felt like a click he wanted to make with either of them at first. Because of this, his childhood was spent with his head stuck in books, teaching himself things, asking others to show them too him, and observing and soaking up every bit of information he could to distract himself from the obvious sadness of it all. He was a smart kid from the get go. Impressing his teachers with his use of language, articulation, and all around curiosity. He garnered a lot of attention from intellectuals, and eventually, was pushed farther and farther up, surpassing his goals even faster than he could make him. It was his mother's overdose that sent him into the realm of doctors. The never ending cycle of destruction and healing he couldn't help but enrapture himself in. At the age of 12, in the middle of his senior year, (yes, he had gotten that far) he made himself a new goal. Fall into line with the medical world. A place he saw himself in perfectly, since it had all the perks he desired from life. After his mother was sent to rehab for perhaps the 10th time, he couldn't stand the stupidity of her choices anymore, and began to seek out his father. He moved to the U.S. shortly after his graduation from senior secondary school, and was near immediately accepted to the university near Gotham, where he found his dad to live. A "goon" working under Maroni. Curiously, he found the gangster scene exciting and enthralling despite that it was the main reason for his father's absence in his life. You know, to keep him out of it. But of course, Smiles couldn't help himself there. As he kept up his surgical studies, he quickly seemed to gain the role as mob doctor for not only Maroni's men, but Mooney's and Falcone's as well, who seemed to have unofficially dub him as Doctor Smiles after his oddly smiley personality. Since then, he hasn't looked back with a shred of regret. How could he when his new line of work pays college off so well?

Other

He's actually a king of slight of hand. If a pickpocket tried to take the twenty he left in his pocket by bumping into him, he would've been better off with the guy's watch, wallet, and the cigarette he held in his other hand.

Speaking of hands, his truly have a gift of some sort. They're incredibly steady, and if he ever manages to go through with becoming a surgeon, it's easy to see him becoming one of the best.

He doesn't even live with his father anymore, he lives, and works, out of this studio in the downtown. Which he is very fond of surprisingly.

He is definently irked that Gordon is starting to ride up his back over a few scuffles he's had out and about. (Mainly because he accidentally stole his wallet out of curiosity, definently not knowing he knew)

Miles hates being called a Kiwi, seeing as he's from Australia, not New Zealand, and that's how the majority of his scuffles usually start.

He's studying part time with Dr. Thompkins to earn experience hours. And loves to pester her.

"Sorry, but usually there's a "please" somewhere in that sentence of you asking me to take that bullet out of your chest."

"My my, you sure took a hit didn't you mate?"

"I'm Doc Smiley, at your service. If you don't survive, you only have to pay a disposal fee!"
