Lania Wilson/Emily Mehrens
Fandom: Arrow
When Lania was 9-years-old she was kidnapped by Agent Fires while her dad, Slade Wilson, was away on a mission. Fires killed her mother right in front of her when the woman tried to protect her daughter.
Fires delivered Lania to the League of Assassins. She was trained into a living weapon and sent after targets. She takes the name Dāopiàn - Blade, and wears a mask over her mouth and nose so no one can recognize her without it.
After 8 year, Fires calls in a favor from the League and hires Lania to be the "muscle" for his mission on Lian Yu. She helps him hunt down Yao Fei, and faces off against her father, who then realizes who she is when he sees her fighting style. She uses moves that he had taught her.
Oliver blows up Fires base and they believe that Lania is dead, but she survives the blast and spies on them for about a year.
She finds a way off the island shortly after her father is injected with the Mirakuru. She travels to Europe where she meets Jacob Mehrens - a young billionaire traveling with his father to check up on the affairs of their global company.
Enthralled by her, Jacob extends his stay in Europe and asks her on a date. They go out for about a year before Jacob asks her to marry him.
On their wedding night, Lania receives orders from the League of Assassins, but she ignores them, not wanting to return to that life. Lania takes on the name Emily Mehrens to hide her true identity and wears a blonde wig to shroud her black hair.
Meanwhile, the League has her father-in-law killed so that Jacob can take over the company, putting him, and Lania, in a position of power.
Upon Oliver's return, she gets close to him. Jacob was a childhood friend of Tommy and Oliver. Emily runs into Oliver at Queen Consolidated, discussing a merger project with Walter.
When Malcolm Merlyn starts killing compromised people on the list, he receives a message from the League, ordering him to kill Jacob on threat of his son's life.
Emily wakes up to find that Jacob never came home. She goes to the office, thinking he just worked late, and finds him dead on his office floor with three arrows in his chest.
Oliver offers to let her stay with them instead of going back to her empty mansion. In no state to argue, she lets Oliver take her home.
When, she's had some time to recover, she throws herself back into the League's work, secretly taking out her targets, but, outwardly, acting to help Starling city thrive.
Oliver starts tracking her after picking up on her trail of bodies. He recognizes her from the island, but she manages to evade him. He never fully drops the search though until The Undertaking takes priority.
When Sara shows up with a band of Assassins on her tail, Lania gets word to bring her in. She attacks, but Oliver intervenes. He asks Sara what she knows about her. Sara doesn't know much as their paths never crossed, but she's heard stories of Dāopiàn... and her kill count.
Slade returns and the two enemies are forced to work together to stop him. Slade tries to recruit his daughter, but Lania refuses, later telling Oliver - "Slade Wilson was my father, that man out there - Deathstroke - is not."
With Deathstroke imprisoned, Lania goes after the League to get revenge for taking her away from her family.
Oliver offers her a place back on the team when she returns. When she asks why, he tells her it's because he's seen her potential for good.
She fights her way to Ra's Al Ghul, but isn't strong enough to defeat him. She almost dies, but manages to return to Starling City and get help from Oliver.
Oliver has Felicity erase Emily Mehrens' files from the hospitals database so they wouldn't get a match when they tested her blood.
She hears about the League's threats on Starling City if Oliver doesn't find Sara Lance's killer. She returns to help them figure out who it is and tries to convince Oliver to let her take his place when they piece things together, claiming she has nothing to live for while Oliver does. Oliver ends up tranquillizing her to stop her from going instead of him.
Believing he's dead, she ditches the team and lashes out on the criminals of Starling City. In a matter of days, she hospitalizes about 30 people.
Oliver returns and she refuses to leave his side, wanting to protect him from the reckoning she knows will be coming, but with Oliver's return, she realizes how much she values the people she cares about and how much it hurts to lose them. So, she returns to Lian Yu to face Deathstroke and find out if any part of her father still remains.
Malcolm frees him and Slade kidnaps his daughter, using her as leverage when he faces Oliver and Thea.
Back in Starling City, when Thea gets hurt and Oliver agrees to trade his life for hers, she goes with him and the team to save her. Unlike the others, she chooses to stay behind to protect Oliver. She convinces Ra's Al Ghul to let her swear fealty to Oliver/Al Sa-Him as he will be the next Ra's. She acts as his right-hand - his horseman. She takes on her old title - Dāopiàn, and tells him "Your horseman in ready - The Blade that points The Arrow."
Ra's forbids her from removing her mask as he tries to erase Oliver's old identity, but she stays close and does everything she can to make sure he remembers himself. She's aware of he and Malcolm's plan... and their bargain.
She returns to Starling with Oliver to eliminate Nyssa, but hesitates to attack the others. Ra's punishes her for her weakness, but allows her to live.
When the others come to Nanda Par Batt to stop Ra's, she realizes that she can't keep up the act. She knows Ra's will question the teams knowledge of his plan, so she turns on the League, using herself as a scapegoat so protect Oliver's cover.
While Ra's locks the others in a cell, he strings Lania up to be tortured for her many betrayals. The others come to find her after their escape and rush back to Starling City to stop Oliver and the League.
When it's all over, Lania catches Malcom as he leaves Thea and Oliver's loft and threatens his life if he ever sets foot in Starling City again.
While Oliver and Felicity are gone, Lania helps the remainder of the team as they fight The Ghosts. People start to call her Nyx because she seems to be able to manipulate the night to help her.
When they track down HIVE to get John's brother, Andy, out, she goes after Darhke. With the League she had been tasked with eliminating him, she wants to complete her mission, knowing what Darhke is capable of. She holds her own against him and his magic, but Darhke blows up their section of the building, leading the others to believe that she's dead.
Meanwhile, he brings her back to his base and tries to drug her into submission. When that doesn't work, he uses his abduction of William to make her comply and then tortures her for information after William's rescue.
She escapes into the underground city Darhke built as an Arc against the nuclear strike he has planned. She runs into Oliver while beating up a few Ghosts. After he explains why he's down there, Lania decides to act as a distraction to keep the Ghosts off him while he searches for Thea.
She manages to get out before the city collapses, but she's alone and just hoping the others got out too.
After taking a minute to wind down, she realizes that she doesn't want to find the others. Her entire life she's been thrown from one fight to the next and she doesn't know who she is when there's no war to fight. She finds an abandoned phone and calls Oliver, glad when he doesn't pick up. She leaves him a message explaining why she's leaving and how much she'll miss them all.
She ends up in a small town a few hundred miles outside of Star City where she can start over. She meets a guy named David Collins and, for once in her life, is happy - feels like she can leave behind her past. She goes by Nia Allen to avoid anyone discovering the truth.
Several months later, however, a former member of the League of Assassins comes after her looking for revenge. The man brings a sniper who shoots her in the shoulder, but, before he can finish the job, David shows up and, in desperation, kills the man with Lania's fallen sword.
She talks David through stitching up her gunshot wound before she bleeds out and explains everything, expecting him to leave her. Instead he just says "what you told me may have changed the way I look at you, but it will never change how I feel about you."
A few nights later, when they get attacked again, Lania realizes it's more than just a couple people holding a grudge and decides to leave. She tells David that she has to go back to Star City, that the Green Arrow and his team can help her stop whoever is coming after her. David insists on going with her.
They get attacked on their way out of town, but escape and start the long trek back to Star City. Once there, they try to reach Oliver at City Hall, but get attacked again. Lania manages to take them out, but the cops show up and they flee to one of her safe houses in the city.
After laying low for a while, the former leaguers track them down and attack. They set off an explosion, which results in David getting injured by a piece of shrapnel. Unable to take him to the hospital for fear of the assassins finding them, Lania takes David to the Bunker.
They stay there until David has recovered, then Lania decides that they need to leave. Since she figured Prometheus/Adrian Chase would be going after the people Oliver cares about the most, she wants to break all connection to protect David and to be Oliver's secret weapon in case things get bad.
She stows away on the plane after Chase kidnaps the rest of the team and Oliver, Nyssa, and Malcolm follow them to Lian Yu. She reveals herself after they save the first half of the team. She threatens Slade's life, unable to trust/believe that her father is the man he used to be.
Oliver asks her to scan the perimeter while he, Slade, and Nyssa go to the monastery. She meets back up with them during their escape, finally letting herself believe that Slade is himself again.
They escape to the plane while Oliver goes after Chase. When Slade abandons the others, she goes after him, not wanting to lose him again. She gets caught in one of the explosions and injured.
Once she's released from the hospital, Oliver offers to let her stay with him during her at-home recovery. During that time, David gets a job and his own place and Lania grows fairly close to William since she's stuck at home all day.
When Slade returns looking for help, Lania insists on going, wanting to meet her older half-brother. She stays out of sight for the most part as backup, but, when Slade and his son get into a fight, she shows herself, revealing that Slade is her dad. This focuses Joe on her. He leaves Slade and attacks Lania, who easily holds her own and overpowers him.
Joe manages to maneuver away and threaten Slade again, but Oliver intervenes and Joe escapes.
When she returns to Star City, Lania gets her own apartment and looks into her brother Grant, who Joe told Slade about.
After the team splits up and Cayden James starts his cyber attacks, she shows up at the attack on the safe zone to help the others.
Back at the Bunker, she reveals her identity to William, who has mixed feelings about it since it's one more person he cares about being put in danger every night.
Things escalate between the teams. Lania stays and helps Oliver, but makes it clear that she disagrees with the whole feud.
When they face off at Quinton's cabin over Laurel, Lania tries to stop them, getting caught in the crossfire. Oliver accidentally hits her in the back with an arrow.
After her recovery, she returns to the bunker to find John and Oliver fighting. She talks to both of them, but Oliver won't listen. John leaves and she realizes that Oliver is beyond reason. So, she leaves too. She promises to keep after Diaz, but tells Oliver that "if he won't listen to reason, maybe he'll respond to action."
Shortly after, Oliver is put on trial for being the Green Arrow. She goes to the courthouse as moral support, but, because of her anonymity, she doesn't have to testify.
She and David get attacked by Diaz's men and meet the others at the old Helix HQ, which the other team had turned into their bunker.
She helps Oliver, the FBI, and the others take down Diaz. Noticing something is off with Oliver, she confronts him about it and figures out his deal with Agent Watson before anyone else. She tries to stop him, offers to take his place, but Oliver refuses, not wanting to split up her and David, claiming that she deserves a real life.
About a month after Oliver's incarceration, Lania and David get married.
Lania throws herself back into vigilantism, initially working discreetly, but growing bolder with the sightings of the New Green Arrow. She separates herself from David, thinking she ruined his life.
After his release, Oliver reunites with her and tries to convince her that David chose her and that she didn't ruin his life.
As the only member of the team that hasn't been unmasked, she keeps working outside the law as the others throw in with the SCPD. She helps the others in their missions, acting as an independent agent.
She doesn't trust Emiko. When they first meet, she tells her off for wearing Oliver's hood. She supports Oliver as he tries to help his sister despite her reservations.
Lania finds out about Felicity's pregnancy and becomes very protective of her.
When they leave Star City, Lania makes John tell her where they're hiding out. She visits them discreetly until Crisis hits and Oliver dies.
In the pre-Crisis 2040:
After that she cuts herself off from the world.
As the city digresses, a band of former League of Assassins members who still have it out for her, break into her and David's home. Catching her off guard, she can't stop them from killing David and, she believes, her daughter.
Pushed over the edge, she seeks out her half-brother Grant Wilson and joins the Deathstroke Gang, eventually taking over as leader.
JJ is her right hand man and the public face of the gang, while she works in the shadows.
After the wall around the Glades comes down, she makes an appearance when the new Team Arrow starts interfering with her operation. She covers her face to avoid recognition. Not even JJ has seen her face.
She leads a group of men to attack William in the bunker, he manages to cut her leg and get some of her blood, which he analyzes to discover who she really is.
Samantha (Sam) Collins, one of the Canaries and Lania's daughter, doesn't want to believe it. (She thought her mother had been killed along with her father - that she was the only survivor of the Assassins' attack.)
Before they can track Lania down, Sam, Mia, Connor, and William are sent to the past to help the OG Team Arrow save the multiverse.
Sam is able to meet her mom before she loses everything and becomes a criminal. She tells her mom about the future in an attempt to change it.
In post-Crisis (Earth Prime) 2040:
When Oliver comes back from Earth 2, Lania forces him let her help in his mission to help the Monitor save the multiverse. She joins the others as they fight to stop, then survive, Crisis.
She watches Oliver die, but chooses not to cut herself off this time. (Trying to change her future for Sam.)
After Oliver's funeral, she retires from being Nyx to raise her family. She trains Sam into the next Black Canary. (Sam uses Cisco's tech to give herself a Canary Cry.)
