Personality: Benjamin is a reserved young man. He tends to stay out of the drama of the Salvatore School, at least as much as possible. While he still has the temper of a werewolf, he tries to keep it under wraps, or at least direct it to the right place and the people who deserve it. Benjamin also is rather cynical, and unlike many of the others, isn't impressed with the supernatural and the things which are happening around him. He also doesn't care about things like the werewolf and vampire feud, or the werewolf pack dynamic. Benjamin can also be rather assertive however, as he makes sure no one is taking advantage of him, to the point where Jed and the other wolves knew to leave him alone. 

Benjamin also does have a softer side, but it rarely comes out since he sees kindness as a sign of weakness. While he has a hard time asking for favors, he's incredibly generous with people he cares about. For example, Alaric will sometimes find sandwiches in his office when he works long nights, made by Benjamin to make sure he eats, but Benjamin would never admit it was from him. 

Benjamin also has a lot of respect for people he considers worthy of it, such as Alaric, and also Hope. He struggles to give genuine compliments, but he can and will when he feels it's deserved. 

Family: 

Julia Holland- His mother and a werewolf. She was a former police officer who was kicked off the force for charges of police brutality. She was killed by Benjamin which triggered his transformation 

Alex Holland- His father and a normal human. Killed in an act of random violence 

History: Benjamin was born to a human father and a werewolf mother. He grew up afraid of his mother because of her anger and temper, which while she tried, she could never quite control. His father eventually made the choice to leave the marriage and take Benjamin with him so as to protect him, and hopefully to prevent Benjamin from killing someone and triggering the werewolf genes. However, even as a child, and separate from being a werewolf, Benjamin had quite the temper, often finding himself in fights, and found himself in and out of juvie. His father was killed one day when Benjamin was in juvie, and in truth, it was just an act of random gang violence due to the small and poor community being prone to violence, Benjamin knew about his mother and assumed she had done it in a fit of jealousy due to his father having left, and starting to date again. Benjamin tracked down his mother, and she was the first person he killed to trigger the werewolf transformation, though he hadn't been trying to kill her, and she had been trying to trigger his werewolf abilities anyways 

Benjamin's werewolf abilities were then activated, and rather than being scared of him, he accepted them and used them to hurt people, both people he thought he deserved it, and some people who were just in the wrong place and the wrong time. His murders and fights caught the attention of Sherrif Matt Donovan, who alerted Alaric to the presence of an angry werewolf. 

Alaric took Hope with him to find Benjamin, and the two of them managed to subdue him. They convinced him to come to the Salvatore School, both by convincing him that it was a place he would belong, but also because they could have him tried as a criminal, and he did have to do something to clean the slate so to speak of his actions. 

When Benjamin came to the school, Alaric had the idea to have Benjamin work closely with him and Hope due to the fighting abilities Benjamin had, as well as the idea of keeping someone potentially dangerous close where he couldn't do any harm, which led to Benjamin being involved with the events of Malivore and the knife. 

Jed and the other werewolves tried to get him into the pack, but they quickly found out Benjamin could have been alpha anytime he wanted, but he just doesn't care about the pack, and so he just lets Jed, and then later Rafael do as they please as long as they leave him alone.

Important relationships within the Salvatore School-

Alaric: Benjamin respects Alaric and how hard he works, and deep down, Benjamin is grateful for the second chance he was given by Alaric. While he doesn't always trust or get along with Alaric, Benjamin does have a lot of respect for him, and will always at least consider his suggestions and advice. The two of them also play chess quite frequently, and while it's not exactly a father/son dynamic, it's the closest Benjamin has to it 

Hope: Benjamin and Hope both work closely with Alaric, and so they know a lot about the other. While they butt heads a lot ( partly due to how alike they are) they have a deep bond which is hard for a lot of people to understand, and Benjamin would, no questions ask fight along Hope whenever she needed, no questions asked. Benjamin also has a crush on her, and feelings which he struggles to accept and admit to himself 

Rafael: Benjamin avoids the pack and werewolf dynamics, so when Rafael was being bullied by Jed, Benjamin didn't really care, and he just thought Rafael needed to toughen up. But when Rafael did become the Alpha of the pack, Benjamin did start to respect Rafael a little more, and while they would never be amazingly close friends, Rafael is willing to leave Benjamin alone, and Benjamin doesn't cause trouble for Rafael

Josie and Lizzie Saltzman: Benjamin is a little apologetic to them due to their feelings that their father prefers him and Hope to them, and is more open. He tries to explain to them that his relationship with Alaric is because Alaric wants to keep an eye on him, but especially with Lizzie, he's reached a point where he's done making excuses for it
