Backstory: When Christian was 5, his magic first revealed itself, and he chose his familiar, a black owl named Ellwyn.
Unfortunately, neither his mother nor his father understood magic, and they called the police.
What followed was a 13-year period of him being both in psych wards and in foster homes. When he turned 18, however, he left the foster home he was in, went to a different city and started working as a gardener.
Overall, not much has happened. He has a good grasp on his magic, and the one time he accidentally hurt someone with it (a girl was caught in a fire he'd set), he'd been able to heal her with only a small scar. Of course, he had to move again afterwards, but that wasn't a surprise.
