A New Friend - A New Beginning
As you can see, I have been holding out on you, though the vast majority of my ideas are, sadly, incomplete. So, here is another short story for you to read and hopefully enjoy. On you go, my lovely readers!
Point of View: Third Person
Percy sits by the sea, looking out at it longingly. "I miss you so much." Percy whispers and pulls his knees to his chest.
"We miss you as well, dear little child of ours. We wish to embrace you again. We despise Poseidon for banning you from us. We want to help you." The waves answer back.
"I am forbidden to enter you or touch you or merely do anything with my remaining powers." Percy says in a heartbroken voice.
"Your powers are still as strong as before, even stronger now that you keep training to keep your mind off of things. We are so proud of you, child." The waves tell him.
"Why me?" Percy sobs.
"We do not know, young one. We wish we could help you, but we cannot reach out to you at all to comfort you or you will be killed by Poseidon." The waves call back to him sadly. "But, maybe, there is another way. Will you trust us?"
"I will always trust you. I love you." Percy whispers through his tears and wipes them away.
"We will call to our friend. He is old and wise. He will help you. He knows of your betrayal and pain. He has been watching you with us for some time." The waves tell him.
A few minutes later, a man starts to rise out of the ocean and Percy stares up at the man. "Oceanus." Percy breathes, but doesn't back away in fear.
"Yes, little one. May I join you?" Oceanus replies kindly.
Percy just nods and Oceanus comes onto the beach and sits down next to Percy. Percy scoots away a little and hugs his knees closer. Oceanus sighs.
"I won't hurt you." Oceanus promises him. "How are you today, Perseus?"
Percy looks at Oceanus from the corners of his eyes and studies the Titan. "Not good." Percy answers shyly. "I haven't been able to bring myself to say this, but...I don't want to live anymore. Especially when I am forced to stay in this place. I hate it here and it just gets worse every day."
Oceanus looks at Percy sadly. "Well, I am sorry to hear that. What do you think will happen?"
"I honestly don't care anymore." Percy tells him.
"I didn't think you would." Oceanus agrees.
"So, you've been watching me from afar?" Percy asks.
"Indeed I have. Some things that I have seen them do to you and you do to yourself trouble me a great deal." Oceanus answers.
"Have you ever been stripped of almost completely everything? Everything you ever cherished or would protect with your own life?" Percy continues.
"Not as much as you have." Oceanus whispers.
It's silent for a long time. Oceanus reaches over and puts an arm around Percy, pulling him closer. "I'll be here for you, little one. So will the ocean. We all love you. Just come to us." Oceanus tells Percy softly.
Percy has tears streaming down his face at the feeling of the sea rushing through him at Oceanus's touch and his kind words. "Thank you." Percy says and leans into Oceanus.
"What is wrong, child?" Oceanus frets.
Percy shakes his head. "I can't believe I can feel it again." He starts to cry in earnest.
Oceanus becomes frightened at the true heartache he hears in every horrible noise coming from the young boy. He holds Percy closer. "I am so sorry, little one. All will be okay, I promise. I'll find a way to help you." He whispers and tries to quiet Percy.
Percy just weeps harder but keeps quiet. He turns his head into Oceanus's shoulder and pours his heart out, telling Oceanus absolutely everything. Oceanus listens intently and when Percy is done, tells him about his life some.
The next day, Oceanus tells Percy more about himself. And again each day. And on the tenth one, Percy admits something to Oceanus. "I...I feel better after each time you talk with me." Oceanus brightens considerably at this. "But..." This makes Oceanus wary and a little cold. "When I come near any of the others, they make it worse. They won't just throw something at me anymore...they..." Percy chokes and stops as he covers his face.
Oceanus melts and tries to comfort Percy. "What is it? What's wrong?"
In answer, Percy pulls up the side of his shirt and Oceanus breathes out in anger at the red brand claiming he is Jason Grace's. When Percy let's go of the shirt, he curls up within himself. "It's gotten so much worse and I'm starting to turn darker than I was before. I don't want to even think at all anymore. Like I'm going to actually be theirs to command if I stay here any longer. If I get beat again. Apollo heals me for them now. Except for the mark. Now I can't escape from it. I want to die. Please just put me out of my misery. I'm begging you. As my last hope, just end it for me. Now and forever." Percy says as he sobs deeper and harder than before.
Oceanus is stunned at what Percy just both told him and requested from him. "I cannot kill you, it would be against everything I have tried to do so far."
Percy grabs his shirt in both hands tightly. "Like what?"
"I'm trying to save you." Oceanus tells him.
"There's nothing left to save! I'm dead anyways!" Percy screams at him and then let's go of him, sitting down in defeat. "I'm dead anyways." He whispers quietly. "I won't be the same person if you pull me out now. I could never be. I'm too spent and I'm dying already."
Oceanus looks at him. "What? You aren't dying?"
Percy shakes his head and rolls up one of his long sleeves to his elbow, revealing the dark blue skin of his upper arm some. "It's too late for me. It's killing me. It makes my pain worse."
"I thought Apollo healed you from all your bruises." Oceanus murmurs sadly.
Percy pushes his sleeve clear up to his shoulder and the mark on his shoulder makes Oceanus go silent. A black tattoo like picture on his broad right shoulder depicting a cracked hourglass with a cut string of life thread inside of it, all inside a circle.
"I see." Oceanus says nearly inaudibly.
Percy's face becomes pained and he lets his sleeve fall a little to cover the tattoo. "I'm going to die anyway. There's no cure for something like this. It's too deeply rooted. All my ties were gone except to the sea when you found me and then you were added. But I lost too many to come back with you and the sea alone. There is nothing else for me. My fatal flaw is going to tear me apart from the inside out. Once my whole body turns blue, that's it. I'll go somewhere no other soul goes, wiped from existence because the pain eradicated the everlasting magic my soul naturally has to enter the realm of the dead or reincarnate. I'm going to cease to exist, forever. I wouldn't mind, but that means something awful to the sea, it will pollute it fully for what has been done to me. So, I'm asking you, if not for me, then for the lifeblood that we share, to please kill me, before it's too late. I'm begging you. Just kill me. End my suffering, save what's left of the raging sea, and send my soul to the Underworld. I cannot do it myself, the sea won't allow me or I would have done it long ago, before you started to help me." Percy says and shakes Oceanus. "The Fates themselves told me there was no cure for this and no way to stop it or slow it down. I know what this mark means, and I know it's entire story. At most, I only have a few days left. Please...just...kill me."
Oceanus has a lone tear trailing down his face and he hugs the boy. "There is a way." Oceanus tells him.
Percy just turns cold and unfeeling. "There is one way...for my soul to be saved and though I believe you have great power, you do not have enough to save me yourself. Not even if you had the sea to help you. It's a lost cause."
Oceanus holds him closer. "Come with me, away from here. It will be easier to heal you away from this wretched place." Now it's Oceanus's turn to beg.
"I don't think I can." Percy's voice breaks and he starts crying again. "They've put too many thoughts in my head. Like I can't think about leaving them defenseless. Apollo did something when he healed me."
Oceanus freezes. "That doesn't matter." The Titan decides. "I can still take you away to a safe place. Will you come with me?"
Percy nods into Oceanus's chest. The ocean Titan stands, helping Percy up along with him and has to console Percy until he stops crying.
"Oh Percy!" The two new friends hear Jason's voice.
Percy stills and Oceanus starts to panic. Percy pulls away from the Titan and pushes him into the sea without looking at him. "Go. I'll survive for now. Don't let them see you."
"Child." Oceanus says.
Percy looks over his shoulder at Oceanus, tilts his head a little and smiles weakly. "I'll be fine. What else could they do to me? Break me? That happened so long ago, I don't know what it's like to be whole anymore. What more can they do, other than batter my already abused body? They won't hurt me any further and," His eyes look saddened with very little light left in them, he looks at the sand while he looks over his shoulder. "To be perfectly honest, I don't think I can die any more than I already have. You, however, if they see you we're both dead. At least if you can come back, I might actually have a chance."
Oceanus looks at him desperately. "It took forever to convince you, what if you deteriorate again?"
Percy looks away at the sand in front of him. Oceanus watches his back and, as the wind blows, it ruffles everything around him. Percy's aura starts to glow. A dark blend of royal and ocean blue. "Leave." Percy tells him sternly.
"You can't!" Oceanus tells him.
"I can. Poseidon won't be oblivious to my raise in power for long now. He'll notice that I have now used it. Go. I'm going to be alright. At least for tonight. I won't let them hurt me this time." Percy informs him.
"You'll be dead before morning. Poseidon won't let it slide until then." Oceanus tells him, looking frantically to the hill.
"I can hold them all off until then." Percy promises.
"You're too weak now. They've nearly drained you completely." Oceanus says.
Percy smiles a little. "Who said I am weak in this state?" His aura flares and Oceanus looks at him in pure shock. The blue aura surrounding him dominates the feeling in the air, it rocks through the camp, makes the wind blow harder, the sea crash more insistently against the sand, rain starts to fall upon them, thunder booms, lightning cracks, the earth trembles slightly, and Percy's eyes glow the same color as his aura.
"What are you doing?" Oceanus asks sadly.
"I'm going to end it all." Percy whispers as his aura blooms, causing all of the gods everywhere to feel him.
"Will you let me take you once it's done?" Oceanus asks.
"Yes." Percy agrees.
Oceanus comes to stand beside him. "Then I will stay with you until the end."
"Is that a promise?" Percy asks.
"It is." Oceanus nods and puts a hand on Percy's shoulder.
Percy's head snaps up. "They come." He says and just as most of the camp comes over the hill to hurt him and see what is going on, seventeen bright flashes surround Percy.
The twelve Olympians, Hades, Hestia, Iris, Nemesis, and Hecate surround Percy and the camp stops at the crest of the hill, watching. "Who dares to hide their power from the council?!" Zeus thunders.
"I have never hidden anything from you." Percy answers.
"You! Boy!" Poseidon growls. "I warned you not to use what powers you had left!"
Percy looks at the ground and then up at Poseidon. "You cannot forbid me from being who I am, what I am, or what is mine."
"How dare you!" Poseidon snarls.
"You have no right!" Percy snaps right back at him.
This phases the sea god, but he doesn't let it show. "I have every right! I am a god!"
"That doesn't make you worth the life you were given!" Percy challenges.
Everyone but Poseidon, Percy, and Oceanus gasp. "Perseus?" Athena asks in shock. Poseidon is slack jawed, pale, and stunned.
"I don't want to hear anything from you." Percy says coldly to the wisdom goddess.
"Percy, come here." Jason orders and Zeus smirks.
Percy's eyes start to flicker, causing everyone to smirk at him, all of them except Oceanus. But they settle on the blue and the earth shakes violently. "I will not obey a rotten savage who calls himself King just like his fool father." This makes everyone take back a step and the smirks fall from their faces.
Jason tries to regain his pride. "You did before."
"Only because Apollo was foolish enough to alter some of my memories and weave magic into the part of my brain that wants to help others. I refuse to be treated like a dog." Percy replies.
"But you are one. It's part of your fatal flaw." Poseidon chuckles harshly.
"Doesn't that make you one, sea god? Last I remember, it's what your fatal flaw is. Care to enlighten us?" Percy looks at his former father with absolute hate.
"You're a demigod." Poseidon says.
"So are all of them." Percy nods at the other campers.
"But you're only a half demigod." Poseidon smirks victoriously and all the others laugh at Percy.
"Why? Because you disowned me?" Percy inquires.
"Yes." Poseidon looks proud.
"Hate to break it to you, but I'm still full-blooded." Percy spits and the sea rises behind him. Poseidon can't fight off Percy's control, especially now that the sea wants to listen to Percy more. "The sea loves all of its own. And I am it's child. You may have taken my mother from me, but you can't take away what makes me whole."
"Your mother never wanted you." Poseidon fires back.
"Then why did you kill her? The woman you so claimed to love with all your heart? You said because she begged you to let me be with her at least, instead of making me an orphan child. Abandoned here, in a place that makes Tartarus look like a cake walk. Admit it, you killed her because you couldn't stand the fact she loved me more than she ever did you. You murdered her in cold blood because she did want me as her son. You forced her to disown me with your magic and then you killed her." Percy shoots right back at him.
"Shut up, you little slave and come here." Jason barks.
Oceanus's grip on Percy's shoulder tightens. "He is not yours to command, still your poisonous tongue." The Titan snaps, having heard enough.
"You side with a Titan?! You commit treachery over your own family?!" Zeus's tone darkens considerably.
Percy's voice turns icy cold, darker than Zeus's, and pierces every last one of them. "What kind of family calls you slave, beats you, hates you with all their hearts, loves and craves torturing you mercilessly, branding you, killing you? What kind of family makes you think your purpose in life is to serve them after saving them from annihilation more than once? Who are you to call me family? Who are you to control my life? I'm done being a part of this horrid family and I think Rhea would be far more than disappointed in her children and grandchildren."
"You are her grandchild." Hades says in a whisper.
"Wrong. I was. Ever since your little brother abandoned me, I have no longer been a part of his family." Percy growls. "I hate each and every last one of you. You can burn."
"Then you will die with the Titan like the traitorous bastard you are." Zeus says.
"Better than with any of you poor, sorry excuses." Percy snaps back.
Percy's eyes glow brighter and everything increases tenfold around them. "You did hide your power!" Ares exclaims.
"That's where you are wrong." Percy tells them as still it continues to rage faster and more intently around them. "I have always been this way. It is you who have been hiding behind your false fronts. I should never have saved you. Now I wish Kronos and Gaea had won. I should have joined them when given the chance. It would have been the better outcome. Instead, I was a fool for siding with the gods. How could I have been so stupid and blind? They were right all along."
"Percy?" Annabeth asks quietly. "What do you mean? What's going on?"
Percy turns his cold glare on her, not realizing everyone is starting to wake up, all except the gods. "I am going to kill anybody who comes after me. Any soul foolish enough to follow after me, I won't bat an eye when I kill them. I'll have no remorse."
"What?!" Jason asks. He looks confused but Percy ignores it.
"Don't come after me. Perish along with your fool parents. I'm leaving." Percy says.
Poseidon summons his trident and snarls at Percy. Zeus summons his master bolt. Poseidon charges at Percy and Percy catches the trident in both hands, spinning around and switching places with the sea god as he turns the blow towards Zeus but they stop at a stand still. Zeus takes the chance at Percy's unguarded back and lightning cracks from the bolt straight at Percy. Percy's aura flares again and lightning strikes down from the sky to block Zeus's.
"I don't think so, Zeus." Percy says without looking. Poseidon starts to push against Percy and Percy uses that to bring the trident to his side and snap it in half over his knee. Poseidon crumples to the ground in pain and Percy throws the two pieces into the sea, where one of his only two friends takes possession of it. Oceanus watches sadly as Percy fights for himself, Oceanus will not interfere. He knows Percy has to stand up for himself and prove to himself that without a doubt, he has his own freedom and isn't controlled by anyone.
Percy looks at Zeus and Zeus huffs in anger. "I banish you from Olympus and the demigod camps as King of the Heavens. Leave here, boy and never return."
Percy straightens and nods, surprising everybody. "Very well."
"You aren't going to fight it?" Hermes asks.
"No, I have wanted nothing more in all my life. I hate everything about all of you and I hope you die once I leave. Goodbye." Percy turns to Oceanus and the Titan holds out his hand. Percy takes it and doesn't look back once as Oceanus leads him into the sea.
"Let's go home." Oceanus tells him.
"Gladly." Percy whispers, no longer able to hold back his tears.
As the gods start to wake up from their spell, Zeus calls after Percy. "Wait!"
Percy and Oceanus halt and Oceanus looks down at Percy. "What do you want of the hero?" Oceanus speaks for Percy.
"Why are you with the Titan?" Athena asks.
"Because I am tired of living in this wretched world and he is offering me the peace I want, unlike you horrible beings." Percy answers.
"I don't understand. Perseus, what's going on?" Athena pleads with him.
Percy whirls around and shocks everybody with the tears that roll down his face. "I'm going home, where I belong. Because I certainly don't belong here, in a place that hates me so much it's palpable in the air. I'm leaving and I'm never coming back, not even if you're all going to die. I've had enough of this life to last the rest of mine."
"But we don't hate you." Annabeth looks confused and then turns desperate. "Why are you leaving us Percy? Me?"
Percy turns away from them all and Oceanus puts an arm around his shoulders. "Like any of you even care. You were the ones who left me and then turned me into something I am not. I am leaving before it gets worse and before I lose myself to people who have no cares about me. I'm leaving before I fade completely."
"Why are your arms blue?" Hestia asks.
Percy glances at his arms to see they are totally blue. "I'm cold." Percy answers.
"You're lying." Apollo's eyes narrow.
Oceanus steps so he hides Percy from sight. "Let us go child. I will help you."
Percy nods and he starts to sink into the ocean with the Titan. He closes his eyes and Oceanus feels it as he lets his powers subside so he can rest. Oceanus lifts him into his arms and Percy's head rolls to lay on the Titan's chest. Oceanus knows he fell asleep.
And they're gone.
Just like that.
Oceanus took Percy away and to his underwater kingdom where sea life thrives.
And for 2,000 years, Percy lives with Oceanus and the peace he has always wanted. He becomes Oceanus's heir and Prince of his kingdom. He is one of the main reasons that pollution has cleared from every water source. The sea is so proud of its favorite child and loves him like no other.
Now, as King and Prince sit in their throne room, King in throne and Prince on a cushion at the feet of his King and father, visitors arrive with a proposal. The King knows who it is immediately and the Prince's face drops as he sees who it is. Sadness is the dominant feature on the usually ecstatic Prince and the guards are unhappy with that. They absolutely adore their Prince.
"Brother, why have you come? How did you fully form?" Oceanus asks.
"You have been here and mainly out of contact with the world, Oceanus. I need you to help me bring down Olympus." Kronos answers and others come in. The rest of the normally evil Titans.
"We live in peace here, I will not jeopardize that. My people have finally found it all and don't wish for more war." Oceanus practically begs him.
"There is no stopping this war and it is already set in motion. The Roman encampment has been destroyed. The Gr-Who is that?" Atlas looks at the Prince, who looks different than before. His eyes have turned to his new father's icy blue, his skin pale blue just like his father's, and his hair pitch black like the depths of the ocean. His blood has even changed and been replaced to make his new father official.
"It is my son. He is Prince of my kingdom." Oceanus answers kindly.
"Tell us your name, boy." Kronos walks forward until he is right in front of the Prince.
The Prince stands with shadows covering his face and then he looks up. "My name is Perseus Jackson." The Prince murmurs. All Titans but Oceanus freeze.
"You traitor!" Perses points his finger at Oceanus.
Percy blocks Oceanus from sight with his arms out to the sides. "No! Please! My father saved me from the demigods. He isn't a traitor. I love him and I know he would never do such a thing to family."
They all stare at him and Oceanus rises from his throne. He puts a hand on one of Percy's shoulders and the Prince's arms drop. He turns to Oceanus with a huge smile and Oceanus smiles warmly at him. "It is alright. They are just missing information."
"Okay, father." Percy says.
"Did you brainwash him?" Hyperion asks.
Percy glares at Hyperion but it softens and then his whole expression turns to sorrow. He covers his face and turns into Oceanus. Oceanus places a hand on Percy's back.
Oceanus shakes his head. "No, what he said before was true. After the betrayal of all those he loved so dearly, the sea urged me to come to him. When we were found out, he made the decision to come with me and before he could leave, Zeus banished him. He doesn't care about that, but he does care about what he went through. He's over it but sometimes thinking about it makes him feel it again."
Kronos nods. "Well, you can keep your peace, even if you won't help in the war." His voice is unusually gentle. "I see no traitors here or unloving family. Perhaps once this war is over we can get to know each other better." Then he turns and before they can all go out, Kronos's hand is snagged and pulled on.
Kronos turns to find Percy holding it and looking at the ground, not wanting to meet Kronos's eyes. His voice stops the others and Oceanus smiles kindly and wistfully at the scene. "The war," Percy begins. "If I help you, will you promise to leave my father and I our peace?"
Kronos turns fully to better look at Percy. "I have already promised that."
"No offense, but after living the life I have, I don't trust many immortals other than my dad." He says quietly. "I want your word and I'm willing to leave my peace long enough to guarantee it and to finalize it by helping you win your war."
Kronos's eyes widen and then he looks at the others who all nod. "As King of the Titans, I accept your terms on the River Styx." Thunder claps loudly enough to shake even the palace in the depths.
Percy nods. "Okay." He whispers. "I know you have a body but I also know you have almost none of your full power. I can feel it and your aura is weakened since last we met."
Kronos is shocked. "What are you saying?"
"Use mine." Percy's voice cracks and he looks up at Kronos with sad and broken eyes. "Use my body to bring down Olympus. I'm immortal and can handle your power. I won't even fight you for control. I can restore every last shred of your power and once I do, you can leave me and I can fight for you. I will even take down the gods for you. I don't care. Just do me a favor." He whispers the last sentence.
"Anything." Kronos promises in his surprise.
Percy growls out his next sentence, "Brick. By. Brick."
They all stiffen and Kronos grins. "As you wish."
"Then I will be your host for as long as it takes to give you back your strength." Percy says.
"Are you ready?" Kronos asks.
Percy looks at Oceanus and he rises from his throne. He walks over and nods to Percy. Percy looks back at Kronos with a new fire in his eyes. "Do it." Kronos's grip on Percy's hand tightens and his body glows gold.
Percy's blue aura radiates around him to easier accept Kronos. "I accept." Percy murmurs and staggers back once Kronos enters him. He holds his head and his eyes flicker between blue and gold.
"You have to let him take over. It's your instinct as an immortal. Just let him past them." Oceanus tells Percy, who nods.
Percy closes his eyes and when they flutter open, they are gold. "This is a bit different than I had imagined it." Kronos's voice comes from Percy's mouth.
"I am immortal you know, no longer a demigod." Percy's voice fills the room and everybody looks around. "Odd, Luke couldn't do this. It seems immortality actually does have other benefits."
Kronos raises an eyebrow. "How are you doing that?"
"My body and I had no doubts about willingly letting you in. I didn't realize my powers would fight you off naturally without my consent. Sorry." Percy answers.
"It's fine." Kronos shrugs.
"You know I can see your memories." Percy sounds like he's frowning. "I wish I would have been your host a long time ago. Less crap would have happened and you might have actually won. It seems my body and powers were better suited to hold you anyway. Not to mention I would have survived unlike Luke."
"I can see yours as well. If Luke would have stayed longer, you would have come with him because he befriended you first." Kronos replies.
"Yea, well, I see I was your original choice. You should have just dragged me away and convinced me. I was a confused little child. It might have even been easy. Stupid sense of justice though. I would have believed you eventually if I focused hard enough on the dreadful feeling I always seemed to have." Percy tells him.
"Is he still inside his head?" Atlas asks curiously.
"Yeah, and he has a name, thank you. Oh, and can hear you by the way. Don't even try to insult me, Atlas." Percy's voice scolds him.
Atlas blinks and holds up his hands in surrender. "Can you see us?" Krios implores.
"Mmm, define see." Percy answers.
"Um, eyes?" Perses is unsure.
"Well, I can see you through Kronos's vision through my body but I can also sense where father is next Kronos but not in his sight. I know who and what he is, but I don't know what he looks like, if I hadn't been living with him for two millennia." Percy tries to explain.
"Do you still have control of your body?" Hyperion asks.
"I do, it's a matter of letting Kronos have possession over it." Percy waves his own hand. "I suppose it might help him better since he can't see behind him when I can. I could warn him of danger or just take over my arm again and block the danger. But I'm actually comfortable letting him have control in the meantime. I'm not really worried about it."
"How come you have changed so much?" Perses asks.
"How come the sky is blue?" Percy retorts and then sighs. "I don't know. My fatal flaw doesn't like betrayal, I'm older, I'm experienced, I was dying for a little while...it's nice just to live with someone who understands what you need. I may be healed, but trust me when I say my fatal flaw has practically made me socially inept. I don't like talking to people I don't know and if I don't know you, it could take awhile."
"Socially inept?" Kronos asks.
"Yes." Percy answers simply. "You've got access to all my memories. You have the answers. I don't know why you're asking. Can I sleep? Possession doesn't seem like it will let me sleep though...Curiouser and curiouser." He muses.
"I can let you sleep." Kronos tells him.
"Wonderful. Just wake me up whenever you're killing the enemy. I'd like to see it happen." Percy replies and the Titans all look surprised. "Oh, that reminds me. Who the heck is outside the throne room doors? He seems familiar, but I cannot place him."
Kronos smiles. "Get in here!" He calls.
When that person walks through the doors, Percy becomes frozen and tears unwillingly fall down Kronos's face. "Oh my gods." Percy's voice comes from all around. Iapetus walks through the doors and comes up to Kronos, knowing exactly who he is possessing and why.
Iapetus speaks kindly. "Hello again, old friend."
The tears increase and Percy subconsciously makes Kronos back away. His voice comes from his own mouth. "How...?"
"Tartarus found out what you did to me with the Lethe and let me go, also freeing Damasen in the process. He realized Damasen finally found something to fight for and was proud enough to let him go. I forgive you, by the way." He says the last sentence softly.
Percy hugs Iapetus and then Kronos pulls away. "The boy is a little bit...upset." Kronos tries to find the right word.
Iapetus frowns. "Why?"
"Well, he's saying nonsense in my head. At least, I can't make full sentences from it." Kronos looks puzzled. "He'll be fine."
"I believe we have wasted enough time." Oceanus says. "Let this be the last war, brother. The child will end it for you if he must."
Kronos blinks. "How can he end it forever?"
"Through my powers." Percy sniffs and the voice is quieter. "I did it when I made grandmother slumber again for eternity. It's why you can't raise her. I can help with that if you want. Not to mention kill the roots of the gods forever." He sniffles again.
"You can raise her?" Atlas asks.
"Yes." Percy answers. "Just take me to where you want to raise her and I can do it."
Kronos nods. "Let's go."
It takes three days to get to the right place where they wish to raise Gaea and Kronos speaks first. "What do you need?" Kronos asks.
"Control." Percy murmurs. Kronos looks like he wants to question it. "I have to use my own power or it wont work. She'll probably try to kill me, so be prepared." He whispers.
"Alright." Kronos sighs as he gives Percy his consent. He believes that Percy is asking for permission to use his own body, which he is.
Percy blinks and his blue eyes settle again. He shivers. "Ugh." He says and flinches. "The land. Gross."
Oceanus laughs. "You have been underwater for the main part. You haven't surfaced for about two centuries."
"Humans still suck." Percy says. "They're lucky that I used my magic to protect the waters of this planet or they'd be in huge trouble."
"How are you raising mother?" Kronos asks and his voice sounds around them now.
"Okay, your mother, my grandmother." Percy reminds him. Percy eyes study the Titans and then his speed surprises Perses as Percy snatches a knife from his belt. "Sorry." Percy smiles sheepishly. "But I needed something sharp." He chuckles nervously. "This might hurt, uncle." Percy warns Kronos as he places the blade on his skin.
Percy closes his eyes and when he blinks them open, they glow with his aura and his voice sounds off. "By my blood, I release the binding I placed upon you in a different life. I am Perseus Jackson, rise now, Gaea, Primordial Goddess of the Earth." He slides the knife across his wrist and blood pours out. He drops the knife and holds out his other hand over the place Atlas pointed out earlier. His hand glows blue. "I am here, come to me." He mutters.
A form made of dirt rises out of the ground and then solidifies into a beautiful woman. She hisses and her eyes land on Percy. He heals his wrist and his eyes stop glowing along with his hand. He gives Kronos his control back and his eyes turn gold. Gaea grins and bounds over to Kronos, hugging him.
"What happened?" She asks as she hugs the others.
"After you were defeated, Perseus was betrayed by the gods and their children. As part of his lifeblood, I was able to reach out to him. He became my son and has agreed to free you and awaken you. As well as restore Kronos to his full power as his host for the time being. Once done, he will help raze Olympus. It is nice to see you again, mother." Oceanus explains shortly.
Gaea squeals and looks at Kronos. "Can you tell the boy I said thank you?" She asks.
"My pleasure." Percy whispers and she jumps. "Sorry, grandmother. If I had any idea what they were going to do to me once my use was over, I would have sided with you in the first place."
Gaea smiles warmly. "It is quite alright child." Then something occurs to her. "Where are the Giants?"
"They haven't reformed yet." Kronos shakes his head and sighs.
"By any chance, Perseus, could you raise them?" Krios inquires.
Percy is silent for a little while and when he answers, his voice sounds harsh. "Oh, I can raise them."
"What's the matter?" Atlas asks concerned.
Percy hisses, making everyone jump. He sounds offended. "Oh, nothing. Just that, much like I did with grandmother, I did the same with all the Giants before their dust blew away with the wind. The gods found out about the Giants but not grandmother. Stupid Olympians. I should tear their hearts out."
"What did the gods do?" Kronos asks.
"Look, I can raise them, but Zeus made me accept to let him know when or if they did happen to rise again with my death. He had Hecate cast a spell. If I knew what spell she used, then he wouldn't know. Not to mention it will hurt worse than Tartarus to raise them. He said I was the beacon and if I was ever in complete agony, that's when they would rise. Which means it would hurt you as well as me. I was forced into accepting when I was at one of my weakest points. I couldn't think straight, I was tired, I was depressed, and ultimately, I just wanted to die." Percy tells him.
"I can remove it." Gaea says and places a hand on Kronos's forehead and as she starts to break the spell, Percy yells, "Wait! It w-" But is cut off and Kronos is thrown into the mountain they stand next to.
"The spell has a rebound." Kronos explains what Percy was trying to warn Gaea about.
"It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but that did hurt." Percy says.
"It didn't hurt me." Kronos says in surprise.
"I think I might have absorbed the pain for you." Percy tells him in a strained tone. "And it's not spread out like it would be if I was in control. It's concentrated. Great depths it hurts."
Kronos frowns. "Thank you."
Percy chuckles painfully. "Yeah, sure. I'm a great host."
"You must be attached to the pain receptors since you can take over so easily." Oceanus muses.
"Great. So Kronos won't feel pain as long as I'm his host. Lovely. I think the spell hurt worse." Percy replies.
"We are going to the Greek encampment next. You'll forget about your pain soon enough." Kronos promises.
"Good." Percy whispers. "Good."
They make it to Camp Half-Blood by midday that day and monster ranks can't smell any demigods but week old scents. "They aren't there." The Minotaur tells Kronos once he comes back, the barrier having been brought down by Gaea.
"So burn it to the damned ground." Percy mutters almost quietly enough to where no one can hear him, but Kronos always hears him and smiles at the idea.
"I agree with Perseus. Destroy it anyway and loot want you want. Olympus is next." Kronos informs everybody.
The monsters all grin evilly and charge down the hill at the order.
Percy this time just speaks to Kronos in his head. "You agree with me?" He raises an eyebrow.
Kronos answers back in thought. "Yes, actually."
"Because?" Percy inquires.
"It seemed like a good idea and since you are helping tremendously, I decided to grant your wish." Kronos says.
Percy smiles thoughtfully as he thinks over how to answer. "It will take two more days for me to restore your full power. I hope you can feel your old power returning. It is not so easy to bring about. Helping Luke kill you before, I shut out much of it."
"Why didn't you seal me away?" Kronos asks.
"You're joking right?" Percy asks incredulously. "I suppose not." He sighs. "Look, I was frightened and still tired and weakened from everything. I had the prophecy in my head and friends were dying left and right. I was leading a damned demigod army. I was drained, scared, young, inexperienced. I didn't know I could. By time I knew about my little gift, I was battling for my life at the end of another war. It came to me and it happened. End of story. Perhaps destiny didn't wish me to know of it when I faced you. I was fighting fate trying to keep Olympus alive even with the prophecy. You were meant to rise now, not before. When I was deluded into the way of the gods and their children. I have lived a very long time with my father and learned of many things. Now I am helping the very man who wanted to kill and use me since he found out I existed."
"I see your point." Kronos nods.
"I feel that Poseidon has grown very weak. If you want Typhon to be freed, now's your chance. My father can do it." Percy tells him. "Or you could. You can breathe underwater if you ask nicely." He laughs.
Kronos smiles. "I'll send your father."
Kronos looks over at Oceanus and speaks aloud. "Will you go free Typhon?"
Oceanus nods. "It will be done. I will summon the remainder of my forces and explain to my people what is transpiring. They will be overjoyed that it is the last war."
"While that is being done, I will raise the Giants." Percy tells everyone. "And where better to do it than the ruins of the camp?" He laughs darkly.
"He's starting to frighten me." Atlas admits.
"Good." Percy snaps. "Can I kill Poseidon and Zeus?" Kronos raises an eyebrow. "Oh don't worry, it won't be painless for either of them. By the end, they'll be just like you were when first overthrown...after, I have my fun."
"Definitely terrifying." Hyperion nods as color returns to his face.
"Whatever. Uncle, I need control to raise them. Why does every summoning spell require blood? Seriously." Percy says and Kronos blinks, his eyes turning blue and Percy's words spill out of his own mouth. "Oh wow. Would you look at that!" He exclaims excitedly and Oceanus vanishes with a smile. "The buildings are burning! Finally!" Percy seems happy enough and Kronos smiles.
Percy bounds down to the center of camp and the Titans follow. He sees the Poseidon cabin glowing and tilts his head. "It senses my presence. Interesting." Percy says and then scowls. "But it is centered on Poseidon filth. I'm leveling the damn thing." He raises his hand and his aura surrounds him. He makes his hand into a fist and the building crumbles to dust. Everything falls silent and comes to a stop. The wind blows eerily as his hand drops to his side. "Olympus will fall." Percy growls.
The monsters go back to looting with a new enthusiasm and the Titans watch in fear of Percy. Percy looks up at the sky. "I will have my peace, if it is the last thing I do." He walks over to the place where the camp stores weapons and grabs a dagger. He lets his blood pour out on the ground until he's lost nearly all of it. He closes the mark and drops the knife. "I summon those who I sealed away. The Giant children of Gaea, rise in the ruins of the place demigods call home. Your purpose calls you once more, awaken and bring Olympus to its knees. I release my bindings over you."
Percy relinquishes his control back to Kronos as the Giants rise. Porphyrion speaks first. "Where is Perseus Jackson?!" He bellows.
"He's my host at the moment." Kronos answers calmly and Porphyrion looks down at Kronos in shock, then grins evilly. "You claimed the hero? Did you get to torture him?"
"No, actually, the hero willingly gave his uncle the use of his body." Percy grumbles. "Besides, I raised you of my own accord after being asked about having the ability to do it. I even had to suffer because of it. You could thank me you know. You are standing here due to my power. I can still send you back."
Porphyrion's eyes widen. "No, don't." He pleads.
"Whatever. But Zeus and Poseidon are mine. Stupid bastards." Percy mutters more to himself.
The Giants look confused. "You would kill your own father?" Polybotes asks.
"You would kill your own father?" Percy mocks him. They all stare at Kronos who shrugs. "He's not my father, thanks. I wouldn't kill Oceanus. It brings me great pleasure to be his son. So, no, I wouldn't kill my own father. Poseidon is another matter. Zeus just pisses me off."
Gaea giggles and the Giants smile. "Mother." Porphyrion breathes.
"Perseus released me as well." Gaea seems happy.
"Don't even say it. I don't want to hear it." Percy says before Porphyrion can open his mouth to apologize and express his gratitude. "Uncle, I will inform you when I have restored everything."
"Alright. Thank you." Kronos nods.
Percy sighs. "You are welcome. Don't start the fun without me."
"I won't." Kronos chuckles and Percy is silent.
After two days of silence from Percy, he finally speaks. "I have finished. Can you tap into your power?" His voice shocks everyone and Oceanus smiles warmly.
Kronos glows golden and he nods. "Thank you."
"As long as you do not break your oath like the Olympians would, it was my pleasure." Percy answers.
"Yes, Olympus has always been treacherous." Atlas snarls.
"So many lives lost." Percy murmurs as he scans the Empire State Building. "Leave my body and I will wreak havoc upon your foes." Every monster, Titan, and Giant can hear his words and are surprised by them.
Kronos closes his eyes and appears in his own body next to Percy. Percy's eyes slide open and they are a menacing, piercing, dark, icy blue. He holds his hand out to the side and a blade appears in his hand. It looks to be the color of a beautiful pearl and has a gemstone set on the part of the hilt that touches where the blade begins in a silver setting. The gem is the color of Percy's eyes.
"Why didn't you summon that to do the spells instead of taking someone's knife?" Atlas implores.
"Don't ask pointless questions." Percy snaps. "This blade is special to me and I will not use it to harm myself like I did so long ago. It is the blade given to me by my father." He turns his eyes back to the building and his eyes narrow. "I'm coming." He whispers and looks at the gathered demigods in front of the door. "I'm going to kill you, your blood will fill the streets of your precious city."
Oceanus looks at Percy sadly. "They are all still alive and immortal. Be careful."
Percy looks at Oceanus. "I am well aware of their godhood. Their little domains. Their pathetic powers. I may not be a god or a Titan or any special immortal, but I am stronger than they are. I always have been. Given godhood to search for someone they cast out. Foolish children that cry for the consequences they received for their own actions, unable to take the responsibility. My banishment was taken away a long time ago and they thought it would bring me back. They were wrong and they always will be. This time, Olympus will fall and by the hands of the betrayed." Percy looks at the ground. "I used to be one of the sons of Olympus and even then I had my doubts about those I called family. I should have listened, but I was too naïve. Too ignorant. That is not the case now. I know better than to let a single one survive. I will take no prisoners."
"Is it hard for you?" Polybotes asks.
Percy looks up with that fire in his eyes. "Not one single bit."
Percy starts to walk and Kronos speaks, "Follow Perseus Jackson."
Percy leads the monster army while the Titans and Giants blend in. Gaea walks alongside Oceanus, speaking with him about her grandson.
As the monster army comes into sight, people gasp. Percy's eyes and skin may have changed, but other than that, he looks exactly the same. Annabeth trembles along with the rest of the seven, except for Percy.
Percy's blade calls for blood and justice and everyone can hear it's cries. Percy looks evil in their eyes and when the army stops at Kronos's command, Percy keeps walking.
"Percy!" Annabeth calls out to him.
Percy stops halfway between both armies and sneers. "Annabeth, how are you?" He asks in a sweet tone and she sighs in relief.
"I'm great, Seaweed Brain. What about you?" She replies with a huge grin.
"Not very happy." He admits with a sigh. "At least, I'm not happy with you. Anyone who sides with the gods holds my hatred very dearly. The only thing that will make me happy right now," He says as she and the others pale. "Is your blood washing the streets of this pitiful city. You die today, Athenian spawn. But oh don't worry, it will be completely painful. I'll make sure of that."
He raises his sword at her. "Guess the original prophecy is back. Looks like I'm razing Olympus." Then he's at her throat and his free hand is on her shoulder as he sword runs right through her. "Your blood falls first." He cuts her all the way through and then cleaves vertically right through her body, killing her. "Hope it hurt, you little bitch." He growls and crushes her skull under his boot. Ichor splatters his clothes all over.
The demigods are frozen and Percy looks over them. "What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" He retorts.
Jason turns red and charges at him. Percy side steps and cuts his left arm off, making Jason drop his spear as he screams in pain. "Hmm, I expected more, son of Jupiter. But of course, a son of Oceanus is much better. Such a disappointment." He sighs and beheads Jason. "Can no one give me a fight?" Percy asks in boredom.
A sword clangs against his own and a small teen is his challenger. "Percy, please. Let me explain."
"Nico Di Angelo." Percy cackles. "Can you present a better challenge than Jason Grace?" He asks.
Nico looks sad. "Percy, I was never there. Listen to my words. I have done you no wrong. I don't know where Oceanus took you or what he did to you. I don't even care. I just want you to know it was all a set up. It was a spell. Tartarus spited you."
Percy growls. "You're lying. The sea saved me by helping me meet Oceanus."
"No, Percy. You, me, Annabeth. We escaped the Pit. You especially. He saw you, he wanted you. Once the war was over, he saw his chance. I can prove it to you." Nico presses.
"I have lived a better life with Oceanus! It is more than anything the gods would have done! They used me and then threw me away like trash! At least Oceanus loves me, unlike Poseidon ever did!" Percy yells and pushes Nico back.
"That isn't true! Poseidon loved you, the spell only made him that way. He wants you back." Nico argues.
"A real father would never let anything separate him from his child! Not even magic! If Poseidon really loved me, then he would have fought for me! The Titans are better than the gods! The Giants are better than the gods! Gaea is better than the gods! They don't deal out injustice and a Titan gave me a home! A family! He gave me my damned life back! I'm going to kill every last god and goddess, every last demigod, every last ally of the gods! I will rip them right out of history!" Percy screams.
Nico has a hard time keeping Percy from killing him. "Maybe they are better, but you can't murder entire species."
"Murder? You want to know about murder?" Percy asks and Nico can hear the hurt in his voice. "I was marked, I was going to be murdered from the cruelty they shoved into my soul. They were killing me then. My soul was being forced into murdering me. Oceanus saved me, Oceanus stopped my pain, and Oceanus gave me life again. He gave me the peace I wanted so badly, the peace I'm willing to die for. For two thousand years, I have held back everything that I felt over the years. The rage, the hate, the pain. All I see when I think about Olympus is red. I was able to let go of everything but those three feelings. Twisting inside my soul like weeds and I'm going to pull out their roots by killing the rest of you. If you are innocent, then get out of my way and stay out of it. Leave here."
Nico looks desperate and then searches the demigods. He removes his blade from Percy's. "Alright. I'll come find you when it is over, Percy. I'll let you deal out justice to those who have long been spared from its clutches. Do what you must, but promise me that you'll listen to me when it's done and over with."
Percy nods. "Fair enough."
Nico looks at the demigods and then sheathes his blade. "Nico?" Hazel asks.
Nico shakes his head. "No, Hazel. You wasted the second chance I gave you. Don't even talk to me." He disappears in the shadows.
"Kill the demigods." Kronos orders and then the monster army charges past Percy. Kronos puts a hand on Percy's shoulder. "Come, while the others deal with them, we will head up to the floating city together. You can help me destroy their thrones and then we can go to their roots."
Percy nods and walks next to Kronos as they head for the city. Oceanus tags along and they ride up the elevator. Once on the walkway, Percy notices that immortals hide in their houses. He lets Kronos guide him to the throne room with an arm around his shoulders. Oceanus opens the doors and Percy's grip on his sword tightens at the sight of the Olympians.
"Perseus!" Zeus yells happily and then pales as he sees who has his arm around Percy.
"Typhon will reach here soon, please Perseus, open your eyes." Athena begs.
"Even if Nico was right, I'm glad Tartarus cast the stupid spell. It revealed who you all truly are and it led me to a better life. Now you'll die by my hands and I'll have no regrets." Percy says and the gods all come down from their thrones.
"That's right, little one. Kill them, kill them all." A figure rises behind Percy, Kronos, and Oceanus. "I gave you to your father and now look at you. You have grown so much and have lived a wonderful two thousand years with him. And after they're all dead, it will stay like that for eternity. No more tricks, I swear on myself I won't do it again once you kill the Olympians." Thunder claps dangerously. "Believe me, I was only trying to make you see sense. Don't you love your new life? Your father? It will be even more peaceful with your uncle ruling. You won't ever have to worry or fight again unless you feel like it. You'll be left alone in your father's kingdom. You'll be free to walk the Earth and explore every last drop of the ocean. You could even have a wife and kids without fear of them being hunted down and killed. Think about it. I have given you the future you have always wanted with a simple spell that made you so happy for all these long years."
Percy turns completely dark. "Perseus?" Poseidon asks carefully.
Percy screams in rage and is beheading Dionysus and Ares at the same time. He pierces Athena through the heart and his clothes are soaked in immortal Ichor. He looks crazed and he kills Demeter and Hera by cutting them in half at the waist. Then he beheads Apollo.
Finally the gods seem to unfreeze and start to defend themselves. Artemis is next along with Hermes, both heads roll on the floor. Hephaestus's heart is cut straight through as well as Aphrodite's and they die together. Hades is next as he came to Olympus for the summer solstice as per usual. He dies just like Annabeth.
Zeus and Poseidon are the only ones left. Percy lunges at Zeus and stabs at him repeatedly while Poseidon stands there, glued to his place. Percy digs his hand into Zeus's chest and rips out his heart, crushing it in his bare hand. Then he slices his throat and turns to face Poseidon, who is backing away.
"Perseus, please stop. Tartarus is toying with you." Poseidon tries to reason with Percy.
Tears run down Percy's face. "Liar." Percy accuses him. "It's your fault. I hate you." His voice breaks. "I can't stand you at all and it's all your fault. You're the evil one and they're all better than you." Percy advances as he talks.
"No, Perseus, see the truth. It's right in front of you." Poseidon begs. "Look at Oceanus." Poseidon tells him.
Percy glances over his shoulder to see Oceanus watching in worry for his son and Percy feels something cold enter his abdomen. He turns to find a trident piercing his body and blood splutters out of his mouth, dripping out of the corners of it.
Percy's tears increase and he looks up at Poseidon, who is sneering but replaces it with a horrified look when he notices Percy looking at him. "Oceanus is far better than you." Percy tells him and cuts the reforged trident in half. He rips it out of his body and runs Poseidon through, pinning him to the ground as he knocks him over. It isn't through his heart and the god is suffering. Percy takes the knife he borrowed from Perses and chops off all of Poseidon's limbs, cauterizing them with fire magic. He stabs him over and over and then leaves the knife embedded in his sternum. He makes his hand pass through Poseidon's forehead and then rips out his brain and smashes it against the floor. Percy stands up and wipes his face off. He picks up his sword and brings it above his head, then brings it down on Poseidon with a scream of rage, sticking in his heart.
Percy is breathing heavily and looks like the vision of death. Oceanus comes over and gently pries his fingers off of his sword. He wraps his arms around his son who begins crying uncontrollably. Oceanus shushes him as Kronos watches sadly. "It's over. It's over." Oceanus rubs Percy's back. "They can't hurt you anymore."
Percy's sword shimmers and returns to its sheathe, now at his side. He grabs Oceanus's armor front and weeps into his chest. "It's gone. It's finally gone." He sobs.
Oceanus holds Percy closer. "Then it is done. You won't feel it any longer. It can't hurt you."
Kronos comes over. "What's the matter?"
"It's done. They're all dead." Percy says.
"Didn't you want that?" Kronos asks confused.
Oceanus sighs. "Yes, it is what he wanted, but the last of his painful ties have been severed. For someone like him, it makes him sad whether or not he wanted them gone. He's not empty, he's just letting out his pain. Not to mention what he's done to get rid of it. He's a little upset."
Kronos nods in understanding. "I see. Thank you, Perseus." Kronos tells him softly.
Percy nods. "Peace." He murmurs as the sobbing stops.
Kronos nods. "You will have it. Will you seal their roots for me?"
Percy wipes his face off as he turns to face Kronos. He nods. "Yes. I can do that."
Kronos smiles gently and holds out his hand. "Come on." Percy takes Kronos's hand and they flash off to the roots of the gods. Percy holds out his hand as he starts to glow with his aura and his eyes glow with him.
"I, Perseus Jackson, seal away the gods for all eternity, so that their corruption can never again touch the hearts of men." He whispers and the land starts to shake.
Kronos squeezes his hand. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Percy says shyly.
Kronos looks at him surprised. "What's wrong?"
"I still remember what it felt like to be near you as a child. Your presence still unsettles me somewhat and I'm not in battle mode." Percy admits.
Kronos chuckles. "Well you don't have to worry about me. Let's go." They flash back to Olympus and Kronos lets go of his hand.
"So, boy, what do you think?" Tartarus asks Percy.
Percy shies away and stands closer to Oceanus. "Thank you, Lord Tartarus." He says quietly.
Tartarus booms with laughter. "You are welcome, dear boy."
Nico appears and comes over to Percy. "I told you it was Tartarus."
"Just promise me one thing, Nico." Percy says in his quiet voice.
"Sure." Nico shrugs.
"Don't ever leave me alone again." Percy mumbles.
Nico smiles and hugs Percy. As he pulls away, he says, "Okay. But I can't breathe underwater."
Percy laughs and it looks happy. Nico grins. "I can take care of that." Oceanus says and places a hand on Nico's shoulder. Nico glows dark blue for a second. "That should remedy that problem."
"Uh...thanks." Nico mutters.
Percy looks at Kronos. "Don't forget." He whispers and Kronos is confused, but then gets it.
He walks to Zeus's throne and sinks his scythe into it. "As King of the Titans, I declare victory over Olympus and its rulers. I command Olympus to fall, brick by brick. So ends Western Civilization." He pulls his scythe out and walks over to Percy. "It is done. We can watch from Mount Othrys." They all head there and watch the city in the sky fall to pieces and disintegrate.
Kronos turns to Percy, who is watching the city fall like fireworks. "You are always welcomed here, Perseus."
Percy smiles without looking and answers with, "That is how it was always meant to be, uncle." Then he turns to face him. "I am glad it is finally over, though. I feel free for once and now I may truly have my peace." He grins and turns thoughtful. "Western Civilization is gone. The Golden Age is far past and those who lived during it are now changed. Humans will change with the new era. A new time is dawning. The Fates are no longer restless and smile upon all who walk the Earth. Fortune has finally balanced out."
"What is this new time?" Atlas muses.
"The Last Age." Percy says.
"I like it." Kronos laughs.
"Who's going to rule?" Hyperion asks. "You or Porphyrion?"
Everybody but Oceanus frowns and he clears his throat. He pushes Percy forward. Kronos smiles warmly at Oceanus and Percy looks nervous. "Perseus?"
Percy shakes his head immediately. "No way!"
"But you're better suited and were the main cause of the downfall of Olympus. We failed in our rules and in our quest to rule." Porphyrion says, somewhat grudgingly but he does believe it.
"I like the ocean better. I don't want to rule." Percy says but Oceanus keeps him in place.
"Son, you can create a better world. You don't have to rule on land." Oceanus speaks gently.
"Come on, Percy. They're right!" Nico hops up and down.
"But..." Percy mumbles.
"Look, you know how people are. You know what's best for others and the world. And you don't have to do it alone. That's why we're here for you. We can help you. Kronos has experience, bad experience, but at least he knows what it's like to rule. You have capable people surrounding you. You can get the job done." Nico says.
"Ni-" Percy starts to argue.
"You want peace, right? So make a peaceful world! Then you can always have your peace." Nico cuts across him.
"I guess." Percy says quietly.
"Stop that!" Nico says and drags him to the cliff. He points at the city below Mt. Othrys. "Look, you are only timid and shy now because of what happened. I blame Lord Tartarus and it's plausible, but the result was still the better outcome. Even if it had some minor problems. Your shyness for example. You weren't like this before. You just need to relearn that old casual self you were. See the city?" Percy nods. "What do you see?"
"Bright lights and people enjoying their night." Percy says quietly.
"And why are they enjoying it?" Nico asks.
"They have friends and family." Percy murmurs.
"Right. And do you have friends and family?" Nico nods.
"Yes." Percy mumbles quietly and his hands fiddle with each other, a nervous habit.
"What do you think happened to make you so timid?" Nico puts his hands on his hips.
"My friends and family." Percy admits sadly.
"Are we different than those before?" Nico inquires.
"Yes." Percy answers a little more confidently.
"Are we going to betray you?" Nico presses.
"No." Percy shakes his head.
"And why do you think that?" Nico implores.
"Because I don't have the dreadful feeling like before." Percy tells him.
"So what are you afraid of?" Nico asks.
"Nothing, I guess." Percy replies and shrugs.
"Great. Now, you're ruling. So get over it. I'll help you, your dad will help you, for goodness sake, I'm sure Typhon will help you." Nico looks a little happier.
"Okay." Percy sighs.
"Better?" Nico demands.
"Yeah, thanks, Nico." Percy smiles.
"Pleasure doing business with you." Nico laughs.
And so, Percy ruled over the Earth for the rest of time. No wars, no evil, just peace. Exactly what he wanted. Nature bloomed again and pollution stopped spreading under his power. Humans became more tranquil and decided to just be one big happy family. Percy married a nymph named Diana and they still have kids. They're very happy together and very much in love. The world will always be in good hands.
