The Ocean Owns Us / Rules & Forms.
⎯⎯ THE RULES.
i. Diverse characters. I know this is said in nearly every applyfic, but I still want to mention it. That's what helps makes these stories so interesting! I want dudes and gals, please give me hopefully an equal amount of both. Different races and cultures, unique backgrounds! A range of ages. Different personalities. Just go crazy!
ii. Please make your forms neat and easy to read! I will accept both google forms and commented forms. Do not use fancy fonts because they can be really troubling to read sometimes. Try to be detailed, especially when describing their personalities because that will help me hopefully portray your characters better. And yes, you can apply multiple times. But keep in mind that not all will be accepted.
iii. No hate of any kind will be tolerated. Towards me, towards other applying, whatever. This is all for fun and it is not that serious. If I see any sort of hate, I will automatically deny your application.
iv. Please continue to be active after the cast is finalized and opinions are done. I don't expect to see a comment and vote for every single chapter. But I would appreciate if you did show some support every once in awhile! I am guilty of not following this; I tend to be a silent reader sometimes, but I am trying to be better.
vi. Current deadline is on January Fifth. If you need an extension when the time comes, let me know before the day arrives.
vii. Password is your favorite ocean animal. Also, not required, but please tag and post on your message board! I would love to gather more attention if possible.

Personality. Marina is a quiet storm of determination and empathy, a leader forged by necessity rather than choice. At her core, she is deeply compassionate, willing to sacrifice her own comfort and safety for the sake of others. This compassion, however, comes with a burden: Marina feels an overwhelming sense of responsibility for those who depend on her, and she often carries the weight of failure even when the odds are insurmountable. She is highly resourceful, able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, but her need to protect others sometimes leads her to act impulsively or take on too much. Marina is introspective and thoughtful, often retreating into her mind to make sense of the chaos around her.
Despite her heavy burdens, Marina exudes a quiet optimism that inspires hope in those around her. She believes in the possibility of rebuilding a better world and refuses to let despair take root. This idealism, however, is tempered by the harsh lessons she's learned as a survivor. She knows the cost of trust and struggles to open up emotionally, even to those she cares about. Beneath her composed exterior lies a well of grief and guilt, as she's haunted by the losses she's endured and the people she couldn't save. Yet, Marina's resilience keeps her moving forward, driven by the belief that every action, no matter how small, can make a difference in the grand scheme of survival.
Background. Marina grew up in Port Serenity, a close-knit coastal town known for its fishing industry and maritime traditions. Her father, Nolan Li, was a ship captain who worked tirelessly to transport goods across the ocean, while her mother, Cora Li, ran a small but vibrant seaside café that served as a hub for the community. Marina also had an older brother, Lucas Li, who shared her love of the sea and taught her how to swim and sail at an early age.
The ocean was central to Marina's life—its rhythms shaped her childhood, from listening to her father's tales of far-off places to spending afternoons collecting shells and sea glass along the shore. However, as the waters rose and storms grew fiercer, Port Serenity began to fall apart. The flood came gradually, stealing more of the coastline each year. When the final evacuation order was given, Marina's family stayed behind, clinging to the hope that they could rebuild. During the chaos of the rising waters, Lucas was swept away while trying to rescue a stranded neighbor, and Nolan and Cora disappeared soon after.
Marina managed to escape, her survival driven by guilt and an unshakable determination to honor her family's legacy. She eventually found refuge with The Cosmia Coalition, where she discovered a new purpose. Her navigational skills and deep understanding of the ocean made her an invaluable member of the team. When the Coalition proposed the mission to explore new lands and find other survivors, Marina volunteered. The journey was perilous, filled with storms, pirates, and the eerie remnants of drowned cities. But the real danger came from The Council. Marina and her team were captured and imprisoned, branded as rebels.
Family.
Nolan Li (Father) / A ship captain who taught Marina the value of preparation and resilience. His stern exterior hid a deep love for his family. (Presumed deceased.)
Cora Li (Mother) / A warm, creative soul who infused joy into even the darkest days. She inspired Marina's belief in community and storytelling. (Presumed deceased.)
Lucas Li (Older Brother) / Her older brother and childhood hero. Brave and fiercely protective, his loss during the flood remains Marina's greatest heartbreak.
Reason for Imprisonment. The Council captured Marina and her team during their mission, accusing them of espionage and rebellion.
Stereotype / Title. The Reluctant Hero.
Likes. Open water, sketching, sharing stories, sea shanties and ocean-themed folklore, the feel of sand beneath her feet, seafood, being on a boat in the middle of nowhere beneath the stars.
Dislikes. Corruption and abuse of power, excessive noise or chaos, the scent of heavy rain, betrayal and dishonesty, feeling trapped.
Hobbies. Collecting relics from abandoned cities, writing and sketching in her journal, stargazing.
Habits. Keeping meticulous records of their journey, pausing to take deep breaths when overwhelmed.
Greatest Fear. Becoming a leader who leads people into ruin or sacrificing others' lives for her decisions. Marina dreads the idea of her choices costing more lives than they save, fearing she will repeat the mistakes of the past.
Strengths. Exceptional navigator and sailor, quick thinking and calm under pressure, a natural motivator, strong swimmer with excellent endurance, knowledgeable in weather patterns.
Weaknesses. Tends to take on too much responsibility, impulsive when protecting others, prone to overthinking and guilt, reluctant to open up emotionally, has a deep fear of failure that can make her second-guess crucial decisions.
Skills. Advanced navigation and map-making, basic first aid, strong swimmer, adept at handling small boats.
