ii. another earth
silver stars
speckle night seas
as i sit
on a creaky dock
stained with lichen
and mildewed leaves
dipping my toes
into a tepid pond
ripples twisting
my tarnished reflection
and i wonder
about what we
could've been
gazing deep into
the indigo nebulas
dusted planets
glowing supernovas
maybe on another earth
we wouldn't have
done this to each other
breaking our
cracked sandcastles
tanned crumbles
washed into midnight seas
an empty shoreline
us wiped away
somewhere on another earth
we'd be on our beach
seastrand glistening
under dusky suns
your sand crusted
hand warming mine
as we piled
the tawny sand
into loose walls
cemented by
wave rolled pebbles
and seawater
into grand sandcastles
dappled with
opalline shells
dried olivine kelp
as the sun creeped
below the bobbing
cerulean sealine
smears of amber
and tangerine
painting cloudless skies
as waves crashed
on rocky arches
somewhere on another earth
your eyes
would be warm and
dancing with life
like summer green seas
not icy dark
when you left me
with salt stained cheeks
and a bitter stain
on all our memories
somewhere on another earth
we'd brave
frothing currents
and stomy tides
together
not crying over each other
mountains and prairies
apart
somewhere on another earth
we'd have a future
together
waking up at dawn
sunshine rimming
water stained windows
eggs sizzling
on flaked pans
smiling laughing
with each other
your eyes a
turquoise joy
and i wouldn't be
sitting in a meadow
alone in the twilight
gazing at the stars
thinking about
better futures
somewhere on another earth
