Explanation.
Henry's POV
You'll only understand if I tell you.
You'll be amazed by my past.
And Layla's true identity.
Twelve years ago...
I was six when I was first saw her- she was laying on the sand saying, "Mother please don't. Mother please don't."
"Stop." I screamed as her mouth widen.
Her jaw opened up like a shark and she was ready to devour her. They both looked up at me though the evil one on top vanished without a trace. I run up to the crying girl and held her in my arms- that witch she called a mother never come back. I felt guilty but at the same time I felt relieved, she was safe. We got up slowly and then I helped her walk to my house, she was unstable and clumsy (almost like she did not know how to walk) but I guess would have the same reaction.
"Mom!? Dad!?" I called out and to my surprise they were already in the lounge waiting.
"Honey? Who's this? What happened?" My mother ran up and with care we guided her to the sofa.
"Honey please make her something to eat, like porridge or soup- something liquid. David go help him." My mom gently pushed me away but her hand held mine tightly.
"Would you like him to stay here by you?"
"Yes, please." The girl and my mother agreed. I sat down next to her, our hands intertwined, and her eyes glued to the floor.
"My name is David. What's yours?"
"My name is Layla-Jade Ocean." Layla said as my mom put a towel and blanket around her. I hadn't released until then how soaking wet she was.
"What's this?" Layla asked me as she point to both the towel and blanket.
"That one is a towel, it's meant to dry you. And this one is a blanket, we usually use it in winter to keep us warm."
"What's winter?" By this stage my brain click. She wasn't normal nor did she act normal.
"Do you mind if I go to the bathroom?" I asked, "oh and a bathroom is a place to do private things like number one and number two."
"Can I come with?" Her voice was low and cute.
"Why don't you stay here and have some porridge?"
"What's that?" She said as she put a hot spoon full in her mouth, "Ow!"
"Oh sweetie, are you okay?"
"David. Come here please..." my father said in a stern voice once Layla had let go of my hand.
My heart skipped a beat and I thought I was going to die on that day. I followed him into his study and he closed the door. He started pacing back and forth, back and forth.
"What happened? Who is she? Where did you find her?"
I told my dad how I was playing on the seashore when I was heard a young girl screaming. Instead of calling for help I decided to play the hero. I told him about how the lady look or at least as much as I could see.
"She sounds like the merman Queen. Only one person has ever seen her and people called him crazy. But now that you have seen her too... It just might be possible that she is real."
"Knock knock. Can we come in?" my mom said as she opened the door.
Layla's eyes meet mine and soon her cold clothes were on me. She hugged me tightly not wanting to let go. That's when I realized how afraid she was, even if the kindest people were with her she would still be afraid. She slept with me that night, her under the bed covers and me on top of them. She held my hand as she fell asleep and even when she was asleep. I couldn't help but to wonder what was going to happen next? What would that queen have done to her? My eyes closed slowly and I too fell asleep.
The next morning my parents decided it would be best not to tell anyone about Layla and or what happened the day prior. Instead they would adopt her as one of their own and care for her. Though, to insure that the Layla's past wouldn't come back to the haunt her my parents erased that part from her timeline, with a memory gun that my father had invented for an experiment a few years ago. Layla won't ever remember the person who tried to kill her nor her life before she meet us.
My parents spent the next few years teaching her how to fight as well as taught her how to be human. They hid her from the world until she was eleven and she could start junior high. She was the smartest one out of her all of us with me coming in at second place. Though, somewhere somehow over those years I started to fall in love with her. Maybe it started that day when she hugged me in her cold wet clothes or maybe it started when the guys in our class started hitting on her.
