Tempo

Title of Fanfic: Adrift [One Piece]

Name: Tempo

Age: 23

Birthday: January 13

Blood Type: AB

Height: 6'3"

Weight: 181 lb

Crew: Wraith Pirates

Role: Sentry/Guard

Epithet: "Lead-footed" Tempo

Bounty: 40, 000, 000

Hair: Unassuming brown, hanging in thick locks around his face

Eyes: Blue, with flecks of turquoise and green around the edges of the irises

Appearance: With pleasant, appealing features and a kindly smile, Tempo is something of a rarity on Hierro, an island primarily known for its industrial exports; most of its residents are scarred and permanently blackened with the grease and soot of their factories, male and female alike. He's not stunningly attractive, just enough that he stands out among his native people.

He's given up managing his hair and allows it to do as it likes, which means it tangles around his ears, his jawline, and nearly curtains off his blue eyes, one of which is already covered by a plain black eye-patch. He's no physical reason to wear it, keeping it only for practical uses, such as pseudo-night vision.

For a brief period of time, Tempo is clothed in the uniform of his island's prison: a black jumpsuit, with his name imprinted on the back in blocky white letters, zipped up in the front, and black work boots. Shortly after his release, at the insistence of the crew, he switches to a sea-green captain's jacket [ya know, the stereotypical pirate-y jacket you always see?], with the large collar folded over so that it just brushes his chin, over a white v-neck shirt and a black waistcoat, as well as long, loose black pants and laced-up green boots.

He bears a tattoo on the back of his neck with the ID number he was issued while under arrest, though his hair is long enough to cover it easily. He also has a long, white scar that cuts down from the crown of his head to just below his right eye, the result of a head injury he accumulated in prison.

Personality: Tempo is rather flighty; at times, he's completely relaxed and good-humored, and at others, he's unresponsive and rude. He suffers from paranoia, as well, which is only truly combated by the security he experiences while with the rest of the crew. Strangers terrify him, and he'll assume someone is an enemy until they succinctly prove themselves otherwise. When relaxed, however, he's very jovial and amiable.

The memory loss he experiences triggers some of his more violent tendencies, and it takes much delicate coaxing from his crew mates to calm him down when he's trapped in one of his episodes.

Preferred Method of Fighting: He'll mainly rely on his Devil Fruit abilities. He isn't uncomfortable with the idea of personally inflicting pain on others, he simply feels he's more useful using himself as a weapon, considering his difficulties with using physical weapons such as guns or swords.

Devil Fruit: Osu-Osu no Mi (Push-Push Fruit) [this is going to sound like Kuma's fruit, which I regret, but... well, we can say it's the lesser cousin of his fruit, like how Ace's Mera-Mera no Mi is weaker compared to Akainu's] Tempo is able to rebel objects within a certain radius using shock waves he emits from his body. He can manipulate the size of the shock wave so that it affects only certain targets, or he can unleash one formidable wave from his entire body that throws back anything close to him. [also I have no idea if someone else has already used this idea... please tell me if I'm subconsciously borrowing from someone, please?]

Short History: Attributed to the head injury he met with in prison, Tempo has only vague recollections of his past. He knows he was born on Hierro Island, and that he chose to stay behind when his family followed his father's job to a nearby island, most likely to stay with a girl he fancied at the time. Beyond that, he's unsure of himself, and something that nags at him consistently is the fate of the girl he left his family for.

The crew knows (more from gossip than from Tempo himself) that Tempo was jailed due to an incident he caused with a shipment of marines that had been docked on the island to resupply. Something had set him off, and he'd not only destroyed the entire ship, but flung the battalion of naval recruits to all corners of the island, resulting in several deaths and an abundance of injuries.

He doesn't recall the incident in any great detail, but accepts the word-of-mouth retelling as fact; he's no clue as to why he would have suddenly attacked the marines.

Dream: To reclaim his memory, if possible. If this proves to be implausible, he's content to protect the captain that saved him from death row.

Miscellaneous

Likes: Nothing concrete; he goes through things one at a time, trying to remember if he enjoyed them before or not

Dislikes: Strangers, unfamiliar surroundings, complete and utter silence

Other: He's all for the addition of a pet to the crew, and he's suggested having some sort of snake on board, though that hasn't gone over well with the rest of the crew.

Character Song: Landmine [Three Days Grace]
