It was pretty damn awkward for Laura, she had to admit. This blonde lady sitting across from her, who was a friend of Andy's and someone who worked for the CSIS. She'd introduced her as Natalia. No last name, just Natalia.
So, Andy had finally let it slip, somehow. She'd been kept under wraps, per Laura's request. The family had managed to get her into school and all that and kept it as secret as they could. Laura was never afraid of anything except what the church would do to her if they found her. She'd accepted they'd gotten to Lucie a long time ago. As much as she wanted to, she'd never see Lucie again unless it was a dead body.
"Laura, I know you're probably thinking a lot of things right now. But I'm here to help you. It's my understanding you escaped from The Church of The True Stars five years ago when you were twelve, is that it?"
"How do you know that?" Immediately, Laura was on the defensive. She'd only mentioned that name once to the Edwards-O'Malleys when she was fourteen and then never again. "We will answer those questions later, alright? I'm assuming that by your reaction, I'm correct?" She asked.
Laura stared down at her hands and nodded once.
"How did you escape?"
"We just walked out, me and Lu-" She stopped herself. She had promised herself two years ago that she'd never say that name again. "Me and a friend, we just walked out. There was no security but that might've change, not that I'd know."
"I see. Did you and this friend get separated?" Natalia was careful not to say her name, seeing as how Laura had stopped herself.
"Mhm." She could feel the tears coming. Now was not the time to cry. "She's dead. I'll never see her again. It's my fault she's gone, it's...if I had just been more alert, than maybe she would still be here." A few tears came down but the blonde girl was quick to wipe them away.
"Laura, Lucie's alive."
Her head snapped up. "What?"
"Lucie's alive. I questioned her a few years ago, soon after she'd escaped. She's living in Massachusetts, in America now." Natalia said with a smile.
"She's okay? LuLu's alive? I..." A wide smile spread across her face. For four years, Laura had accepted Lucie's fate. She knew Lucie, the girl could not defend herself. But she was okay. She'd made it on her own.
She'd see Lucie again.
