Excuse Me? - October Maxwell
t/w pedophilia, beatings, sexual assault
When October had first been sent to Alexis Allen's house, she immediately felt comfortable in it. He was a nice guy who wasn't weird about any of her female traits like a few of the previous foster families had been. He was a great shoulder to cry on and October almost immediately viewed him as a father figure.
He adopted them when void was nine and for the first few months after that, everything was positively perfect. But as we all know, nothing ever lasts forever.
The first time he smacked her came as a shock to the blonde. It was delivered quickly and coldly and followed by yelling. She doesn't remember what she did wrong. Overtime, he just started beating her randomly and sexually assaulting her if he felt the urge to.
Once she was eleven, she rarely left his basement. She lost track of time. When she was twelve, Alexis was nice enough to put up a calendar and mark the days for her. But that was it. He also gave her a TV, which was cool. So that's where she spent her days. Staring into a TV screen, getting raped and beat by some white dude.
It was when she was fourteen that she saw someone on TV talking about her. "Today marks three years since October Maxwell went missing from her home in Augusta, Maine. The police questioned her adoptive father , Alexis Allen , but found no leads. If you see this child, please notify your local police. She'd be fourteen now." The news reporter finished up. October toyed her blonde hair and looked to code locked basement door.
They had to get out of there. But how? Just how?
The simple answer; she'd have to fake her death.
At least that's what void decided on one sleepless night. They would find their way from there, they were certain of it.
During the next beating, October just shut her eyes. She just shut her eyes and tried her hardest not to scream out in pain. It took a lot out of her, but she managed.
She heard the man gasp and he must've panicked because next thing October knew, she had been wrapped in a rug and was in the back of Alexis' pickup truck. They must have driven for hours because when Alexis dumped her body in the middle of a field and sped off, she found herself with nothing recognizable in sight.
So the fourteen year old made herself walk. She didn't know how far a town would be from here but she hoped it wouldn't be a long walk. Thankfully, it worked out that way.
They soon found themselves in a pretty town but they didn't have time to take any of that in. The town was tiny, she soon figured that out. It only took void about fifteen minutes to find the police station.
"Can I help you, young lady?" The front desk lady asked and she nodded. "My name is October Fairy Maxwell. I went missing from Augusta three years ago." She was honestly just proud of herself for remembering her full name.
"Oh...alright." The woman said. Clearly, she was far from used to dealing with this kind of thing. "Chief Williams? We have a missing girl out here!"
Next thing October knew, she found herself just sitting there, answering this man and other policeman's questions.
She pointed every finger at Alexis. In the end, they went back and grabbed her stuff right after arresting the man October had once been so close to calling 'dad'. October was home free. Kind of. At least she wasn't locked in a basement anymore.
