Rewriting Sci-Fi But With Henry and Charles

My teacher made us rewrite a chapter of a classic sci-fi story of our choosing, and I chose to do Jekyll and Hyde but with my OCs.

Also, just wanna flex that I got 100% on it lol

P.S. No, I did not forget about this book. I just haven't felt like actually getting around to updating it cuz I'm lazy.

The fellow in the lab coat gave me an innocent smile as he mixed the powders and the red liquid. He seemed to be in no hurry as he precisely measured and mixed everything, instead watching with keen patience and interest as it began to turn purple in color.

"Sir, while you are preparing whatever mixture that may be, perhaps you could tell me what the meaning of all of this is. I admit that my curiosity and impatience has got the best of me from the strange task Dr. Beamte has asked of me and of which you are involved," I gestured to the drawer of odd contents that my old friend had requested for me to bring into my own home, which this man was now in possession of.

He was strikingly similar to Dr. Beamte in appearance, having hair the color of coal and eyes of a sky blue. Both men possessed a calculated aura to them and strangely enough, wore lab coats no matter where they were located or what activities they were engaging in. However, unlike Dr. Beamte, who always appeared as a mess because he did not care for his appearance, this man was neat. His skin was healthier and his hair was impeccable, and his eyes seemed to shine brightly. My friend was known for always appearing angry, but this man wore a constant smile. He was almost the same height as my old friend, but he was an inch or two taller. All of this made me believe that he must be some relative of Dr. Beamte that he had failed to introduce me to, but otherwise I had no insight into this strange sequence of events.

"It may be painful for you to wait, and I apologize greatly, but I assure you that once this is over you will understand why I must show you rather than simply tell you," the calm man responded to my troubles in a vague manner, his eyes still fixated on the mixture in the glass that was turning from purple to green. For my impatience, it was transforming all too slowly, but there was still an element of awe that somehow allowed me to hold my tongue and prevent me from further pressuring the strange man. I reasoned that if he would rather show me than tell me, Dr. Beamte had come up with something brilliant and had chosen somebody else to demonstrate it to me for some reason.

After a few minutes of sitting in silence, the glass had turned to a complete watery green, which the man had no hesitation in drinking its full contents. Nearly the second that the glass had left his lips and he began to set it down, his body started to contort right in front of my eyes. His raven hair somehow became shorter and unkept, and his bright eyes became sunken and dull. He shrunk by about an inch, and his skin grew pale and unhealthy. His friendly expression was replaced with a blank one that held no emotion. This had all taken place in just a few seconds, and I found myself struggling for words or some way to speak. Nothing I could say could possibly explain what had just transpired, and yet I had seen it occur right in front of me. I was absolutely astonished, almost horrified, even.

The strange man had somehow transformed into Henry Beamte! Purely out of shock, I still failed to speak. I attempted several times to say something, but it simply ended in odd stammers or words that were entirely incoherent to even me. Dr. Beamte stood patiently, though he would typically be irritated with a reaction like mine. Instead, he allowed me time to calm down and process the situation in my mind. To me, it seemed to be an eternity, but it was likely just a minute or two before I had finally recovered my voice.

"Dr. Beamte, what is the meaning of this?!" I could bring myself to exclaim just this much despite having finally found my voice. He waited a few more seconds for my shock to calm itself, most likely wanting me to be of a calm mind so I could comprehend his explanation with greater ease. Once I had begun to compose myself about as much as I could in this peculiar situation, he began to explain.

I am not sure how I could ever begin to write what he told me due to its fantastic nature and the horrors it has caused me even as I document my account of these strange events. The only thing that I should be able to explain, for the sake of this documentation, is the curious fellow. Dr. Beamte informed me that he was known by the name of Charles Rostock, and he was wanted for several crimes. Though he failed to tell me what those crimes were, as he talked it became apparent that this Mr. Rostock had done something horrible to several women.
