9. Adrian Spinner and Callisto

Hello there! :D

Today we're looking at Adrian Spinner and Castillo, both submitted by @apowo16 again. They are from the same universe as Aspen Cold, if you remember, that was chapter 5.

I do have to make one remark because I was told this not very long ago: both of them (Adrian and Aspen) originally were canon characters until they were "transformed" into their (@apowo16s) OCs. I'm not a big fan of that, but for the sake of continuity we'll ignore that. So. Grab yourself a double snack, and we'll start right in!

(same rules as always, I don't think I have to explain them anymore)

We'll start with Adrian because I can

Name: Adrian Spinner (I'm a sucker for pun names)

Heh, nice. Adran has two meanings depending on origin: in Latin it means "Son of Adria", in Greek it can be translated as "rich". Spinner is an (I'm quoting ancestry.com on this one) occupational name for a spinner of wool or yarn from the agent derivative of Middle English Middle High German spinnen 'to spin' (this is rather obvious). And in German the word Spinner also means something along the lines of weirdo...

Age: 23

good

Gender: male, he/him

I see where this is going

Sexuality: Aroace, although he doesn't know at the beginning. He ends up coming to terms with it at the end

INCLUSION, YEEESSS

Species: Spider-hybrid (his mom was a spider-hybrid, his das was human)

Was his mother like a drow in DnD or mostly human? Because I'm not quite sure how a human and a spider would make love... and I didn't need that image in my head. Great.

Appearance: Dark brown, shoulder-length hair that isn't too well taken care of, with two green streaks.

Are the streaks natural? Because I don't believe they are and yeah. But good, makes sense I think

He has green eyes, is 6'0, and his most noticeable feature is his fangs. When he's overstocked on venom, you can see the faint green colour inside them. Also, he has freckles

Ok, all pretty good

Personality: Bleeds charm and is one manipulative bastard.

Hey, watch your language. Ok, I cussed in previous chapters as well, but I need to at least pretend I'm not worth demonetizing (if that's possible on Wattpad) ;)

He's pretty emotional and quick to anger, but he hides his emotions fairly well.

Uh, that is dangerous.

He hates being pitied, and would rather be feared than respected.

And that is... a little scary. But why? Because if he's feared he doesn't have to treat others respectfully and that is too much to ask from him?

Flaws: Sometimes he's a bit too blatant in his assholery, which leads to him facing consequences he'd rather not.

You don't sayyy? Everything has consequences, your deeds, your words, your mere existence. And if you're not nice, that can happen, it's your own fault. (Yeah I don't have that much sympathy for him...)

Though he hides it, he's really immature.

He was taken in at 13, in a phase in his life where he still would be developing his social senses (if that exists?) and learn from contact to others. That is pretty much non-existent, I think.

Disabilities: No real-life ones, but when he's got too much venom stocked up (Usually because he's overproducing out of stress) he gets all delirious and focuses only on biting someone to get rid of it

Can't he, like, "milk" the venom out of his teeth? I mean, you can milk snake venom, I don't think this is impossible for spider-carnivore-teeth.

Powers: Venom baybey. Specifically, it causes unconsciousness and nightmares.

Ok I think, I don't know if that would work irl, but hey, book-science.

It can kill technically, but only if he has enough to be in the aforementioned delirious state. He can't kill someone with it on purpose, essentially

That way he isn't too dangerous... or even more because he can't control himself when he CAN kill somebody

Backstory: Self-indulgently tragic. His mom killed his dad (spider themes and whatnot),

Spider themes!

he ran off and got captured by lab people for 3 years, ran off again,

probably a traumatic experience

got high on venom, killed a woman,

told you it's dangerous

took her kid because he was young and stupid and figured "well I don't wanna LEAVE them",

wha-

and then joined the imperial space army lel

how do you care for a kid when you're in the army, especially the space army? Isn't the whole point that you're not at home?

Ok, we're through.

He is... a thing. Incredibly dangerous and still a child who doesn't know shit about the world as far as I can tell. This can and will lead to problems which might get very difficult to deal with. Now I know that a 5yo generally thinks differently form an 13yo, but nevertheless, difficult. I don't have much sympathy for him, as in my opinion there are a few things that could've been done differently, with less damage in the aftermath. The thing with the venom for example. But I hope everything makes sense in the final story, so yeah.

He gets 9 spider legs out of 74 drops of venom.

For the drawing I didn't have anything for the clothing, so I had to limit it to the face, and yeah. It turned out surprisingly good, and I hope you like it. I'd love to hear your thoughts

Now we switch over to Castillo. (whose actual name is Callisto, as I have learned. I hope you don't judge me if I keep it the way it is now, but I wanted to say that their name is, in fact, CALLISTO.)

Name: Castillo (no surname)

According to my research, Castillo isn't really a first name, but rather a Spanish surname meaning "castle".

Age: 19

So he was... like 12 when Adran "took him in". But good.

Gender: Agender, it/they

REPRESENTATIONNN! Yeah ok sorry for yelling. But it is cool, you don't see agender people too often.

Sexuality: demi, only into guys

I think this is gonna end up as an love triangle between Aspen, Adrian and Castillo. Let's see what you make of it.

Species: Starlander (made up species. Just imagine a guy made out of space)

Ok, that is interesting! Are Starlanders aliens or do they originate on earth?

Appearance: 8'5, which if you can believe is short for a Starlander.

2,43m tall, are you kidding me? This is almost as high as the ceiling in most rooms! How tall is your average Starlander then?

Half their face is light gray like the moon, with one green eye on that side. The other side is wispy and starry, and shifts in appearance based on their mood, but is usually deep purple.

Fancy, I have to admit that!

They wear a formal, elegant clothing- usual for their kind, but head-turning when compared to other imperial soldiers.

I mean, I too would be concerned if I was on the battlefield and then just fucking Slenderman pops up next to me

They have soft feathered antenna, and green, insectoid wings that can fold into their back.

That... ok? I have to see how I do that in a way that fits... (I do the review before I draw the OCs)

Personality: Shy and incredibly antisocial. They really only trust Adran- mostly because he tells them to.

I understand why, but... that can't be too healthy for a long time?

They feel list when they're alone, and constantly play devil's advocate to try to justify the bad things he does, both to others and to them.

I mean devil's advocate is usually very interesting, but it really isn't nice. How bad are the things they do? You didn't list anything, so I'm clueless

Later in the story, they have an arc about realizing their own worth.

Get some sense and humanity in there, good!

They try to forgive him, but make it clear that they don't need him anymore.

Ok, I can't blame them.

Flaws: No backbone. They refuse to stand up for themselves, or do anything that might harm the status quo they've gotten used to. They're resistant to change.

That is anything but wise. I understand that change can be scary, but life is always scary, and going with the tides usually makes things easier. Sure, it takes a while to adapt, but after that, it's mostly better.

Disabilities: They have trouble remembering things on a day-to-day basis, and have completely forgotten their original family.

I was about to say that I usually forget things pretty easily too, but I didn't forget my family by now. I mean, yeah, it has been like 7 years since he last saw them, but... ok now that I think of it, if they didn't have a relationship that close, it might be possible.

They tend to disassociate. (These are just symptoms, but I'm not sure what the name of such a disorder is.)

I don't know either. Alzheimer might fit, but then again, after some time it is very difficult to remember anything.

Due to Adrian's trauma-based aversion to venom extractors, they used to be essentially a pincushion for when Adrian got too stocked up, leading to a borderline addiction to the venom.

I assume like this addiction/the venom works like opium. Not healthy, but if he does that, it isn't unlikely to happen.

The Empire found out later on and put a stop to that, and they gradually recovered.

Thank god.

Powers: Starlanders can teleport, levitate, and survive without oxygen.

Make sure that you don't use this too excessively, so that they don't become overpowered.

Callisto has trouble learning the former two, especially without a Starlander mentor.

Ah, you already thought of that! Nice, very good. Makes sense as well I suppose.

Backstory: Touched on in Adrians Backstory. Their parents were kind enough, even if they had a bit of a disdain for each other.

The parents for each other or Castillo for them and the other way around?

They had a fairly normal childhood up until their mother was killed and they were promptly whisked away to a new life with Adrian.

If you didn't already say that this decision was stupid, I had said the same thing now.

They followed him everywhere because he was all they had, and they eventually ended up staying at the imperial base, becoming a soldier once they turned 18.

That is incredibly weird, but sadly possible if they can't go anywhere else.

They've forgotten most of their past by now.

I already speculated on that, I don't know how plausible that is, but it should be okay.

So, we're through with this one as well.

Castillo is an interesting character, with a few things I'm not quite sure if they would work out, but then again, maybe they do. They look very cool as well, and yeah. The thing with forgetting is a little obscure to me, but since they were relatively young it might be possible. I don't have much to say about them, I've already said everything that needed to be said.

They get 2 grains of sand out of 1.328.057.126.034 stars.

Now, for their drawing. I had one "person" in mind when doing this: slenderman, just in space-colouration, with insect-looks. Since they are (probably) an alien species, I guessed their sturdiness might not be similar to ours, though still humanoid. Aquarelles and pencils were used, and yeah. Hope you like it, and I'd love to hear your opinion on it! :D

I hope to welcome you back next time!

See you soon!

And here, have a biscuit 🍪 :D

(I would appreciate it if you would leave a comment and vote, maybe even share with your friends, so that this book hopefully gets seen by more people that help me advancing this :] )
