Ethel, the younger sister of Race, hated being a newsie. She also hated the Manhatten newsies. So she ran away, far away. She ran to the places no one would look for her in. She ran to Queens first, with help from a Brooklyn newsie named Jucker, and became friends with the newsies there, but there was no place to accommodate her. The leader of Queens, Top Hat, sent her to the Bronx, their closest allies, apart from Brooklyn, and now she lives there. That happened three years ago. Now she loves being a newsies and she loves the Bronx newsies. Ethel earned a newsie name at the Bronx and now she rarely gets called her actual name, she gets called Books instead. Books worked her way up the ladder and is now the second in command, she's respected, even by older kids! She barely thinks about Manhatten anymore and no one talks about them knowing her history with them. When the prices are raised though she is forced to think about them and their (as Ethel calls it) stupid, shitty strike. Will the Bronx join the strike? Will she make up with her brother and his idiotic friends?
