ᴀɴᴀʟʏsɪs
Malena tends to very driven and goal oriented. She likes to always have some project she's working on with an achievable goal in sight. However, she also has bad habits of taking on too much as well as setting her goals unrealistically high. Those tendencies lead her to failure which she doesn't handle well. Malena often internalizes failure and sees herself as a failure if she messes up or falls short of her goals. Her internalized sense of failure has led to moments of depression in her past and contribute to her current struggles with anxiety. These are problems she works on and is trying to change herself for the better, one of her new goals. Malena is also a hard worker who strives for excellence and tries her best at all that she does. She wants to present her best self to the world which is why she takes failure so personally. Another note of her personality is that Malena is quite independent and proud of it. In her independence she also has strong opinions she's not afraid to share and can not be easily swayed to believe anything else. She likes to be right and will believe she is right until undeniable evidence proves her wrong. This tendency of course comes from her pride that has built up over the years. It's another thing she strives to adjust so that she can see other people's points of views better. While Malena has her strong opinions she does not attack people with differing opinions. In fact it is in her opinion that everyone should be able to express themselves freely without being attacked. She also love to let loose and have fun, because what is life without having some fun? She wants to live the best life she can so she often cuts loose and can be spontaneous. She does this on a whim and makes last minute decisions often. She can be goofy and loves to jam out to music even if her singing voice is a little scratchy.

ᴛʀᴀɪᴛs
ɪ.ᴀᴅᴠᴀɴᴛᴀɢᴇs As noted before Malena is a hardworking goal oriented person who strives for excellence. This combination of traits has led her to a lot of success in her life. She graduated in the top ten percent of her high school class, won several scholarships to her college of choice and continues to serve her well as she moves through life.
ɪɪ. ᴠɪᴄᴇs Malen has the unfortunate tendency to push people away mostly because of a mix of anxiety and thinking people are burdened by her presence. She has come to realize that with her strong personality people often get tiered of being around her. For example, she doesn't back down from her opinions and is very forceful with them, especially when others don't agree which can be tiring after awhile.
ɪɪɪ.ʟɪᴋᴇs Malena really loves art and art history. She's fascinated by the world of art and it's different mediums of expression. One of her favorite artists has been Frida Kahlo for her exploration of identity, gender, class, and race. She overall love the surrealism art movement as all the different styles that fall under it. Naturally she went to an art centered college and majored in art history. Malene also finds relaxation in drawing or sketching, not that she's extremely talented. In fact she isn't very good. She tries to hone her drawing skills, but it's never been her talent. It doesn't stop her from trying though. On another note Malena really enjoys the winter time and snuggling in on a cold day to watch a movie. She loves the cold crisp air of winter and loves it when it snows. Malena also enjoys reading and as a little hobby like to draw the characters of the stories she reads as she imagines them.
ɪᴠ. ᴅɪsʟɪᴋᴇs Malena finds negative people to be tiring to be around. She's not necessarily always upbeat but she finds people who are constantly negative make life seem so meaningless and awful. Malena also dislikes social confrontation with people she doesn't know well. For example, she is terrified of ever getting in a fender-bender with someone because she won't know what to say or do or how to interact with an irrational or rude person.

ɪᴠ. ғᴀᴠᴏᴜʀɪᴛᴇ ᴍᴇᴍᴏʀʏ Makena's favorite memory takes place on a cold winter day when she was in middle school and her sister was in highschool. It was during their parents separation so their dad was currently staying out of the house and their mother was at work for the day. It was a snow day for school but Juanita still had to go to work so the girls stayed at home alone for the day. Sofía pulled out all their favorite Christmas movies and made a bunch of snack for her and her sister. She then dragged Malena out of bed and they built a fort in the living room and watched movies all day.
ᴠ. ʜɪsᴛᴏʀʏ The Álvarez family was never a rich one. Juanita and José actually struggled a lot with finances in their early marriage. At one point when Juanita lost her job that provided most of the income for the family they had to turn to government aid. They stayed on government aid for a bit of time which was hard on the family. There was a lot of internal strife between José and Juanita because of the financial issues, they even went as far as separating for several months. They never got an official divorce but the separation still left it's effects on their kids. Malena and Sofía often got forgotten in the chaos that was their parents lives. Sofía ended up looking after Malena quite a bit, almost fulfilling a mother role, especially when their parents were separated. However times did change. Malena's parents realized how their kids were suffering and started to make changes. Both got jobs they didn't like but it solved the financial problems. The two also attended couples therapy to work on bettering their relationship. With time the family started to grow back together. But because of their less than perfect childhood Malena always looked up to her sister for what she did and how her sister took care of her which is why Malena has always seen her older sister as her role model.
