Mindflayers, are a race of myths that originally came from the dark forest. Though it is uncommon for some to be born outside the forest, example shinsou.

For mindflayers, purebloods are very important meaning they frown upon crossbreeding. Though they will only give the other a cold shoulder they will not abandon them even if their mate is not another mindflayer.

Mindflayers, are actually guards of the dark forest, meant to keep the spirits in the forest at all times. They were created by ares, during when the pillars first came together. Since the dark forest back then wasn't kept in check.

Many spirits had left that forest back then and had tormentered humans for years to come, until ares and the other pillars made the mindflayers. The mindflayers were created just for that purpose at the time, though as time went on and more and more came up. Their role changed, any with a guard form will be given the task to guard the forest , if they do not have a guard form they can do whatever they want as long as it benefits the forest.

Mindflayers are actually two separate things, some mindflayer are their own body and mind while others share one with their host. This case goes for shinsou, his mindflayer is named darken. A mindflayer who actually had challenged the leader mindflayer, at the time and was actually close to killing zerlinda.

Sadly, she had gained second wind and used one of her abilities she had learned to use over her life time. Since them, darken has been known as a chained mindflayer. A flayer that once stood out of line and for that they pay the price by their power being stripped away from them leaving only half of what they had originally. Which isn't really a lot when it comes to a mindflayer.
