⇉ SHY/QUIET:
Max has always been extremely shy. If he's nervous because he's talking to someone new it's likely he will stumble over his words a little. He is very good for conversation once he gets over his shyness though.
In big groups of people he can be quiet and just let them hash things out, unless he really needs to speak up. Then he just has to burst through his little anxiety bubble however that doesn't happen often.

⇉ KIND:
Max is incredibly kind and could be easily used as a doormat, it's happened before... He's not stupid, he can see most of the time when people are walking all over him he's just too anxious to confront most situations.
He will help people whenever he can, he's nervous about talking to new people but if he sees someone upset he will try to help them or cheer them up in any way he can.

⇉ AWKWARD:
If it wasn't already pretty clear, Maxwell is very awkward. He sometimes just doesn't know what to say, he's so worried about saying the wrong thing which is why he is a much better listener. He can be a little uneasy around people however he tries to avoid them feeling awkward in any way if he can help it.

⇉ INTROVERTED:
Max genuinely enjoys his own company. Sometimes he likes being around other people too but he actually does also enjoy his own company. He likes artsy stuff so he always finds ways to entertain himself.

⇉ HELPFUL:
He will try to help in any way that he can, if someone asks him to do something he's on it and will try help where he can. He genuinely doesn't mind helping people out so he will gladly do what he can. Again, this leads to him being treat by a doormat by some people...

⇉ LOYAL:
Max is a very loyal friend. If he is friends with you then he will look out for you and he sticks with his friends and what he thinks is right. He gives a constant support to the people he cares about. When joining the rebellion it was known he was loyal above most things, he couldn't betray people he cared about- he didn't have it in him.

BACKSTORY:

⇉ Max grew up with a pretty normal lifestyle however, like a lot of families in this time, his family were incredibly homophobic. He was never really allowed to explore things and be himself because he was always shut down so quickly.
He was always scared of saying the wrong thing in front of his family, then one day he didn't think before he spoke and basically outed himself. His family, especially his father and older brother were not happy and he was mistreat for a long time because of his sexuality. He was abused for a while as his family are very religious, they would often tell him that he was possessed or he would never be loved because of his sexuality, as well as the abuse being physical. After around a year, he got kicked out. They were also big supporters of Selene unlike him. Luckily he joined the rebellion and he could help since he was good at drawing so he could map things out, he is also great with a bow and arrow.

He's still quiet now because he's constantly scared of saying the wrong thing still. He's also closeted because his family made him feel like he was some weird reject because of his sexuality. His family's words definitely had a huge affect, he's scared of his sexuality and doesn't feel like anyone will love him romantically.
He's scared to talk about it however people who are close to him may be able to guess.
