Edith's life isn't so different from Nathan's. Her mother was a powerful lawyer while her father was a main advisor of the Royal Council. As their only child, a great deal of expectation were placed on her. And so Edith skipped two grades, played varsity tennis, picketed all of her speech and debate tournaments and lived the life of a perfect daughter. Her parents maintained a happy and healthy relationship all throughout, though it soon became apparent that her mother was slowly dying. But for some unknown reason, the doctor found arsenic in her bloodstream.

Walking to the hospital from school one day, Edith was greeted by the face of a woman unknown to her. Soon said woman made her aware of her part in slipping arsenic into each of her mother's meals. Being blackmailed, Edith ended up going with the woman to join the rebels. Little did she know that it was a political move to affect her father.
Edith did eventually come to realize how much her mother's death and her disappearance affected her father. Particularly as he became an alcoholic to drown his sorrows. But it wasn't as though she could successfully return home to comfort him. No, instead she merely continued to dutifully serve the rebels at Wallerstein base.
