The Monster Truck
It was just another day in Alexandria, where things were beginning to settle down. Rick and the group were at the gates, discussing plans for a patrol route, when the ground beneath them began to shake.
“What the hell now?” Daryl muttered, already bracing himself.
The sound was deafening—an engine growling so loudly it felt like thunder. Everyone turned toward the source of the noise, their jaws collectively dropping.
There it was: a towering, oversized monster truck rolling toward the gates. The wheels alone were taller than any of them, the shiny chrome reflecting the sunlight. The body of the truck was painted jet black with bold, fiery streaks down the sides, and mounted on top was a massive horn that blared menacingly as the truck approached.
“Of course,” Michonne muttered. “It’s her.”
Jihyo leaned out of the truck’s window, a smug grin plastered across her face. She had a pair of aviator sunglasses perched on her nose and a lollipop in her mouth, the picture of unapologetic confidence.
“Move it!” she shouted, her voice easily cutting through the roar of the engine.
The group stood frozen, staring up at the behemoth of a vehicle.
“Where the hell did she get this?” Rosita asked, her tone equal parts disbelief and exasperation.
“It’s Jihyo,” Rick replied, rubbing his temple. “I stopped asking that question weeks ago.”
The truck rolled closer, the horn blaring again as Jihyo tapped impatiently on the steering wheel.
“Seriously? Are you all deaf?” she called out. “You’re blocking my way. Move!”
Daryl, standing at the front of the group, didn’t budge. He crossed his arms, glaring up at her. “What the hell is this, Jihyo? You planning on crushing walkers or the damn walls of Alexandria?”
Jihyo smirked. “Both, maybe. Now move before I test it on you, Dixon.”
Rick stepped forward, holding up a hand. “Jihyo, why do you even need a monster truck? Where are you going this time?”
Jihyo shrugged, popping the lollipop out of her mouth. “Scavenging, same as always. But sometimes you gotta make an entrance, you know?” She grinned, leaning casually out of the window. “Now, are you gonna let me through, or are we doing this the hard way?”
Daryl stood his ground, narrowing his eyes. “You’re not driving that thing out of here.”
Jihyo tilted her head, her grin turning playful. “You wanna bet?”
The group exchanged wary glances, unsure of how far Jihyo was willing to go.
“Daryl,” Michonne said, nudging him. “You might want to move. You know how she is.”
Before Daryl could respond, Jihyo revved the engine, the sound so loud it made the ground tremble.
“Alright, alright!” Rick shouted, throwing up his hands. “Let her through before she drives over us.”
With a satisfied smile, Jihyo blew them a kiss. “Smart choice.”
As the group reluctantly stepped aside, the monster truck rumbled past them, the massive tires leaving deep grooves in the dirt. Jihyo waved cheerfully as she passed, her lollipop back in her mouth.
“She’s gonna get herself killed one day,” Daryl muttered, shaking his head.
“Maybe,” Michonne replied, watching the monster truck disappear down the road. “But at least she’ll do it in style.”
The group could only watch as Jihyo’s latest escapade faded into the distance, leaving them with the same mix of frustration, disbelief, and reluctant admiration she always seemed to inspire.
