Chapter Thirty Seven

I swear, I'm panicking. I didn't know what to do. I can feel beads of sweats forming on both sides of my temples. I'm nervously sitting and in front of me are two women, claws out with their never ending throwing of insults.

"Your dad is on his way, Gabbana." Mom said, looking at me with so much disapproval in her eyes.

I turned to Tita Moana when she called my name, I see the opposite in her eyes. There's an understanding and worry to it. But she managed to smile.

"Papunta na si Oxygen at ang papa niya." She informed, I gave her a single nod.

"Oh, so you even invited your bastard husband, huh?" Mom again insulted her.

I was about to argue with her and warn her to stop calling people names they don't deserve because I know Exodus De Salvo from his fruit that he's a good root, when Moana Marie laughed it off.

"Okay lang, at least walang bastardo."

Alright, that's savage. I winced, mom should hear something that sounded like her words sometimes. A taste of her own medicine.

When Tita Moana spilled the beans, mom overreacted. As expected. But it was cut shortly when I pretended to feel dizzy and the need to sit down for some air was necessary. She had no choice but to let me. She called out our help to bring me a glass of water, then she announced that she's calling dad.

Mom wanted Tita Moana to leave but she's not about to follow her. She's determined to stay and even asked me if I want her to call Oxygen for me. Of course I said yes! Mom argued with me but unfortunately, Tita Moana only has her ears on me.

They were insulting each other when dad came, he immediately went on me. Worried. At least I wasn't alone with the two now.

"Dad,"

"Gabby, baby. What happened?" He asked, embracing me like I was his five year old baby girl suffering fever. He caressed my back and kissed the top of my head. "You okay?"

I gave him a nod and hugged him back, holding him closer. I felt him looked back to see mom and Tita Moana watching us. His forehead knotted when he saw Tita Moana, I was suddenly confused when Tita Moana's eyes went from gentle to sharp at the sight of my dad.

"Moana Marie, what are you doing here?" He asked, slowly pulling away from my arms then his gaze swung to mom's direction. "Camsy, what's going on in here?"

Mom glanced at me, all I see on her face is so much disappointment and it pains me. I feel like I'm such a bad daughter and being pregnant is my biggest mistake to my parents. My eyes moved to Tita Moana who's looking at me, too. Through the sight of her, I remembered how much I love Oxygen. No, this wasn't my biggest mistake. Not even a mistake to consider. Oxygen and the babies inside me are probably the best that I had in life. With that, I found my voice.

"Dad," I watched him turned to me. He's giving me a quizzical look. Knowing that Moana Marie is here, with me, gave me a boost to do it. "I-I'm pregnant."

Dad is one complex man. His emotions were the hardest to read. And I can't see any of it now. After a few seconds, all I got was a single movement of his jaws. Enough for me to know that he isn't happy to what he heard and I understand. Who will be? He doesn't even know that I have a boyfriend, this maybe the last news he expect himself to hear. Dad loves me, so as mom. This will be hard for them to accept but I trust them, their love for me. They will forgive me.

"I'm sorry, daddy..." tears began rolling down my eyes. I bowed my head, looking straight at my hands placed on my lap. "I'm sorry that I failed to be what I promise I'll be when I was a little girl. I'm sorry... I forget to be a good girl, I forget to be well-behaved. I-I'm sorry, I'm not the best daughter anymore. I-I upset and disappointed mom, I promised you I would never do that and I ended up breaking those promises. I'm sorry..."

I remember those moment I had with dad as his little girl sitting on his lap while watching the stars at night from the verandah of our Beverly Hills fancy mansion that dad bought for mom and for us. I'd been a fan of his incredible love for my mother since I learned to appreciate it. For him, mom is everything. She is his queen. Dad did everything for her and we were so happy. One night I asked him if he wants anything because I was thinking of giving him a reward for being the best dad, he always gives us a reward when we're behaving properly at school. So, I thought of doing the same thing. What he said will forever be buried in my mind and in my heart. He said he doesn't want anything but my mother's happiness. Then I promised him, I will do the best that I could to make mom happy every minute of her life. I promised him, I'll be the best daughter. I will never cause trouble. I'll do everything that mom wants me to do. Just so she'll be happy. And then, I've experienced how it felt to have my own happiness and forgot about mom and my promises to dad.

Mom is oftentimes annoying, she's loud and bossy. But I love her, love her so much. And dad is one of the many reasons why I love my mother.

"But I was happy, daddy, I'm sorry..." I still wasn't looking up, I'm not ready to see how much I disappointed people that I love.

Then dad's huge hand covered mine, he gave it a gentle squeeze before I felt him move to stand up. That's when I looked up to him, only to see Oxygen watching me. Next to him was his dad.

I get on my feet, Oxygen was about to walk towards me when dad pulled me to his chest. Embracing me again, as if telling me that his arms were my safe zone, that he's my comfort before anyone else. I smiled burying my face on his shoulder and wrapping my arms tightly around him.

"Nag-punta ako dito, para kausapin si Gabbana." Si Tita Moana iyon, habang nakaupo sa couch na kasalungat ng sa amin. She's in between of her boys. Ako nama'y ganoon rin, all because I'm not sure if I'm willing to let go of dad's arm after I've experienced it's comfort once more.

Soon as my tears subsided, dad asked me what I wanna do. He's not asking for mom's opinion nor anyone's, all he cares about is me. I told him I want us to talk to Oxygen and his parents, so he gave me that. And I couldn't be more thankful for his presence.

"You're not welcome here, sana hindi ka na nag-punta."

"Oh, shut up." That's another snide comment from mom.

"Ma!" Naiiritang suway dito ni Oxygen.

"Oh my God, what a filthy mouth!" Mom grimaced, standing up. She motioned her hand to the De Salvos then she looked at me. "I still can't believe it, Gabby. You really associated yourself with these kind of people? You're more than..." She looked at Oxygen with disgust, then back to me. "This man."

"Oxygen, Oxygen Terrick is his name." I don't like it. I don't like it every time she seems like so disgusted saying his name that she chooses to address him 'this man' instead. He doesn't deserve that!

"I don't care," she pointed out what's obvious. "I didn't raise you just to be another girl for him to toy."

"He loves me!" I shouted, I have never shouted at mom but I am now.

"And you believe him? Oh, come on, Gabbana! You're better than this!" She shouted back, angrier than I am.

"Mom, this is me." Crying, I pointed my head down to my chest. "Ito lang ako, I can't be better than this. I'm good with what I am now. If being better means not being happy, I don't want anything more than this. You have to accept it, mom. This is all what I can give you. I'm in love with Oxygen, he loves me. I believe him, yes. Because believing in him makes me happy and mom, I want to be happy."

She stared at me for awhile, pain, anger and disappointment were seated in her eyes. I've never seen her this way, I've never disappointed her. All my life I've become the daughter she expects me to be, but I grew tired of it. Modeling is one of the things she made me do, I learned to love it as time goes by. Because that's what I'm good at. But ninety percent of why I stayed in the industry I sometime felt out of place, is because mom's happy with me being in it. Now, I can't let her decide for me. This isn't just about me, I have my children to consider.

She's about to open her mouth when dad stopped her.

"This isn't about you, Camille. This is about, Gabby. For once, let her be."

Silence took over for a moment before Moana Marie cleared her throat, wanting to get back to the discussion. I turned to her and she smiled at me, I smiled back. At least, now she's no longer scowling at me like the first time I saw her.

"ZA, ihinihingi ko ng paumanhin ang pangyayaring ito. Hindi ko man alam na may mga ganito ng kaganapan, bilang ina ni Oxygen alam ko na iyon ang dapat 'kong gawin. Kay Gabbana, at sa inyo bilang mga magulang niya." Malumanay na sabi ni Tita Moana.

"You should really be sorry, Moana Marie! You've raised a bugger for a son." Ingos ni mommy na nanatiling nakatayo.

I looked a Oxygen, he's looking straight at me as if I'm the only one visible to his eyes. I mouthed sorry to him, he smiled at me. Oh, how bad I wanna run to him and hug him. He doesn't deserve to be hearing those things. Those were false judgments about him. I broke off our eye contact when Tita Moana stood up, staring directly at mom.

"Moana," that's Tito Exodus calming her down.

"Easy for you to say." Mom walked towards her, I panicked and was about to stand when dad stopped me. Siya ang tumayo. Dad and Tito Exodus looks like boxing referee for two fighters willing to kill each other. "Lalaki ang sa'yo. Babae ang sa'kin. I don't know if you'd understand what exactly I'm feeling now that my daughter is now pregnant by someone whom I disapproved of. And no, Moana, I'm not saying this because of all the issues we had and still have. I'm saying this because I'm a mother."

The tears blinding mom's eyes pained me. She's crying because of me.

"I'm a mother. And your son has a reputation of a player. I know him for being an all women man, how can expect me to be happy after knowing that my daughter had gone head over heels in love with that kind of guy. I'm not saying this because he's your son, regardless of who his parents were, he's still isn't the type of guy I'd want for my daughter to have." Mom made her point clear and I saw understanding in Tita Moana's eyes. Somehow, I felt happy that she understands my mom the way I did.

He's looking straight at me. "Mahal ko po si Gabbana."

My heart did a happy flip, this was the first time I heard him say that in front of others. And that others are our parents, made it more special to me.

"And for how long are you gonna love my daughter?" Dudang tanong ni mommy.

"I don't think this thing will ever end." Was his simple reply, eyes straight on me.

"Of course, you'll say that. With your parents watching you, you really will." Mariing sabi ni mommy.

Doon siya binalingan ni Oxygen. "No ma'am, I'm not doing this for anyone more than Gabby and our babies-"

"Babies?" Mom's eyes went wide, swinging her gaze back to me, down to my stomach.

"Didn't you know? They're having tripletsss, with three s in the end. Grabe, akala ko ako na ang pinakahuli sa balita. May mas outdated pa pala sa'kin."

Mom shot Oxygen a glare. "You son of a bastard! You made a pig out of my daughter!"

"Oh, dahan-dahanin mo 'yang bastard bastard mo na 'yan, Camsy. Bibinggo ka na." Banta ni Tita Moana.

"Why are you so mad, Moana?" Alright, back to insulting the parents again. I rolled my eyes. "I'm just telling the truth. Your husband is a bastard making this son of yours a son of a bastard, ain't it?"

"Camille, stop it!" In a couple strides, dad was on her elbow.

She jerked off and gave him a death glare. "Don't touch me!"

"Oh yes, Camille. My husband is a bastard." Palaban na sagot ni Tita Moana. "But he doesn't have a bastard."

"Moana Marie," Tito Exodus held her again.

I saw how dad winced a little at the insult thrown at him. Made mom even more furious.

"I don't intend to insult you, Zayn Andrei. You having a son outside of your marriage was entirely none of my business, just how it isn't your wife's business that my husband is a bastard. I just feel like giving back the low blow thrown at me, I can't let your wife insult my men." She smiled sweetly at both mom and dad. "And just so you know, Camille Syanna, I can do both. I wonder if you can talk 'filthy' with your classy mouth, the way I imitate yours."

"This is enough," that was dad. "We'll talk some other time, when you're both cooled down-"

"There will be no other time!" Mom interjected in a snarl, she pushed Tita Moana and angrily pointed the door. "Get out of here, you and your cheap family!"

I've had enough, without second thoughts I stood up and went to Oxygen, pulling his arms with me. Started leaving.

"Gabbana, where the hell are you going?!" Mom screamed, I pulled Oxygen more.

"We're getting out of this hell, mom. You're all annoying and loud and goddammit, I want peace! Jesus!"
