You know that feeling that you get when you wake up from a nap and you feel like you've slept for centuries? Yeah well that was me until I realized I had work to go to. I looked at my phone and saw that I was an hour late. I try to hurry and jump out of bed, but the sheets are trying to keep me in the bed. I eventually just fall out of the bed and I pull my converse back on and run downstairs. I head for the door, grab my skateboard, and run to the sidewalk. I drop my skateboard and head for the dog shelter.

About fifteen minutes later I walk in and head for the back.

"Mr. Newton?" I ask out loud. I hear shuffling and I see a blonde head come out from two boxes.

"Mr. Newton?" I question again.

He still doesn't answer. I walk over there and see that he has headphones in. Now, how am I going to get his attention without scaring him. I try stomping, but he is still in his own little world.

"MR. NEWTON!!!" I scream and he turns my way and gives me a scowl. Uh oh. He pulls out his headphones and rolls them up.

"An hour and fifteen minutes late" He says looking at his watch.

"Sorry. I accidently fell asleep and Avery didn't wake me up" I say apologizing.

"Mm Hm" He replies and turns around.

"Wait. You're not going to make me go do extra work or anything?" He turns around and smiles.

"I didn't say I wouldn't do anything" He says and gives me a cheshire grin.

"No, I'm just kidding. Just do your regular thing. Oh! And we have a new employee" He says and smiles.

"Really? Where are they?" I ask and look around.

"They don't come for another hour" He says and fixes some boxes.

"Oh. Ok, well I'm just gonna do my thing" I say and point towards the cages. He nods and turns away. I feed all of the puppies and give them fresh water.

"Hi, babies" I say and a golden retriever named Marley starts wagging his tail furiously. I pet him and neal by to the next cage. I hear the front door bell ring and someone walk up to the counter. I stand up and put some of my hair behind my ear. I walk in there writing on a clipboard.

"How can I help you?" I question not looking up

"Today's my first day" I hear a familiar voice say. I look up and see Mason standing there with his hands in his pockets of his leather jacket.

"Oh! Mason right?" He nods "Ok, well if you want to hang your jacket on there," I point towards a coat rack by the door "I'll take you back to meet the boss" I say and smile.

He hangs his jacket up and follows me to the back. I see Mr. Newton standing there counting boxes of supplies.

"Mr. Newton" I say and he looks up and sees Mason and smiles.

"HI! I'm Mr. Newton. You must be Mason?" He says and offers his hand. Mason takes his hand and shakes it.

"Yes" He replies.

"Well this is Delilah" He says and gestures towards me. I give a small wave and smile.

"Yes, we've met before" Mr. Newton nods and looks at me.

"Yeah, we go to school together" I say and he looks at Mason.

"Awesome! Well if you want to help Delilah for today that's fine. Delilah why don't you show Mason how stuff works" He says and I nod my head yes. He turns around and I start to walk towards the cages towards the far wall.

"What I normally do when I first get here I check the food and water" I say look at him. He nods.

"You don't talk a lot do you?" I ask and he shakes his head.

"Eh, not much of a people person" He says and shrugs. I laugh and turn around.

"So you're an Alex person" I say and smile. He looks at me with big eyes.

"What?" I ask and he nods.

"That's different" He says simply and scratches the back of his neck.

"How?" I ask with a confused expression.

"So, what do you do after feeding them?" He asks, dismissing the subject. I give him a weird look and continue.

After telling him about most of the stuff I go on my own. I was cleaning a cage when I realized that I forgot to tell him where the extra food was. I walk to where he is, but stop short when I hear him talking.

"Dude, when are you going to get here?" He asks aggravated. There is a few minutes of silence before he speaks up again.

"Well, you better hurry. I can smell rogues all over the school" He says and I become totally confused. Smell? Rogues?

"Tomorrow? Alright Jax, I'll keep an eye out for them. Kay, bye" He says and hangs up. I walk a little ways away and act like I didn't hear a thing.

"Mason, I almost forgot. We keep the extra dog food on the shelves by the hoses" I say and nod. He nods too and turns around.

"Well, I'm getting ready to head out. Our shifts are over anyways" I say and wave my hand. He nods again and finishes up what he's doing. We both walk out and I grab my skateboard.

"Hey, I can give you a ride. It's probably dangerous out here at night" He offers and I shake my head.

"No, I'm fine. Thanks though" I say and take off. I turn my head and see him get in a black Camaro. Nice.

I arrive the house and unlock the door. I see that Hayden's car is out front signaling he is here. I better shield my eyes just in case. I walk in and I'm greeted by the delicious smell of food. I walk in the kitchen and I see Hayden at the stove with a towel across his shoulder and Avery sitting on the counter.

"Hey Delilah" She says and Hayden waves. I walk up to the stove and see he is cooking fajitas.

"That's smells really freaking good" I say and try to snatch a piece of chicken out of the pan, but he smacks my hand with the dirty spatula.

I look at my stinging hand and back up at him. I rub the remaining fajita juice that was on the back of my hand on his face and he looks at me shocked. He throws the towel and spatula down, I know exactly what he's going to do so I go ahead and get a head start. He chases after me and I run up towards my room. I'm running up the steps when he latches onto my ankle and drags me back down. I had no chance after that, this boy is strong anyways. He sits on top of me and wipes the juice back onto my face and laughs.

"Eww! Avery! Get your caveman of a boyfriend off of me!!" I scream and all I hear is laughing come from the kitchen.

"Hayden get off of her" She says nonchalantly.

He gets up and offers me a hand, and I take it. When I'm halfway up he lets go and I land really hard on my butt.

"OW!!" I scream and he sticks his tongue out and walks back into the kitchen. I stand up and slowly walk upstairs.

"Dinner will be ready in a few minutes" I hear Avery shout from the bottom of the stairs.

"I'm not hungry anymore. When's mom coming home?" I ask.

"She took graveyard shift for Kelli" She says and I nod.

My mom works at the hospital as a Doctor. I walk over to my t.v. and turn it on. I turn on my computer and walk into the bathroom. I go ahead and take a shower letting the water wash all my worries and problems away. I step out and wrap a fluffy towel around me. I get dressed and get on my computer. I get on Skype and call Alex.

"Helloo?" She answers and I see her face come into view.

"Hey chickadee" I say.

"Whatcha doing?" She asks munching on chips.

"Nothing, did you know that Mason works at the shelter now?" I ask and she looks at me.

"Seriously?" She asks a mouth full of chips so it actually came out as 'Srrsleiy?"

"Yeah, he's a quiet one, isn't he?" I ask and she nods.

"Yeah, I don't know why though" She says and shrugs. I contemplate telling her about the phone call, but I don't.

"Hmm, well that's all I wanted to say. Bye!" I say and she waves. I hang up and shut my computer down. I go back into the bathroom and brush my teeth. I finish and jump into my inviting bed.

"Hmm" I hum in appreciation. I look over and realize the doors to my balcony are open.

"Eh, oh well" I say and shake it off.

I set my alarm and turn off my lamp and t.v. I settle into bed and close my eyes. I'm almost asleep when I hear a low pitched growl come from the doors. I freeze in place.

I slowly look over, but I don't see anything. I quietly throw my comforter back and slowly get up. I walk towards the doors when I hear it again. I freeze mid-step. I need to calm down. Whatever it is it can't hurt me when I'm two stories up in the air. I keep walking until I'm on my balcony. I look around, but don't see anything. Hmm. I hear it once more and I look to where it came from.

A giant black wolf in standing by the entrance to the woods. It's yellow eyes look like bright glow sticks. It slowly slinks back into the woods and I stand there shocked. I've never seen a wolf that big. That thing was the size of a bear. I run and close my doors. I jump into bed and shut my eyes tight.

Eventually I fall asleep after hours of contemplating whether it was my imagination.
