Chapter 20: The Complication

The next day, since Rachel was at school and James wanted to complete the quest with her, James spent his time in and around the hut, completing gathering quests for Wilfred, be that a bunch of leaves, some slime goo, or some carrots, which also grew in the forest. (Which might have explained the Wabbits.)

Nova also spent his time learning and brewing potions for Wilfred, like a potion which used nuts and a bit of moss, "Woodland Perfume" which made you smell like the forest (maybe not a good thing Nova thought to himself), and also reduced the chances of woodland monsters finding you by smell. Nova kept 2 bottles for himself, if only to give to Sol, as a prank.

Another potion Nova learned was "Base Potion", which was a useless brew that was used as a starter for other potions, like a "Bass Potion", which deepened your voice and made a low sound when the neck of the bottle was blown, like a flute. It apparently was often bought by musicians to deepen the strings on their instruments and was also quite fun to use.

What Nova also did was gather huge amounts of Bluebell petals and slime goo, 500 Bluebell petals, and 100 slime goo, and he brewed them all into distilled mana potions.

It took FOREVER.

Nova did question his goal halfway through the mindless process of brewing potion after potion, after potion, but he just carried on. He never backed out from a stupid challenge and wouldn't start now.

By the time Sol logged back in, Nova had brewed all 20 potions. 20!. It was going to take a long time to brew the remaining 310 potions. Nova decided to add recalculating the number of potions needed to his to-do list. It was getting long, and included obtaining 78 stacks of Bluebell petals (100 petals = 1 stack), and 16 stacks of slime goo. It was going to be a long grind. But worth it. Definitely worth it. He had done the math, and if every potion restored 130 mana, there would be at least 43'000mp in his bath. It was definitely worth it, just to see what such amount of potion would do. He couldn't do such idiocies in Shadow; The guild leaders, himself included, would never allow it. It would be fun.

He added 'Obtain mana-proof bath' to his list of things he had to do. It would be no good if he had a bath full of mana-potion, and all the mana seeped out through the bottom and into the ground, not to mention the damage such quantity of mana-potion could cause if it escaped – if not prepared, it could rupture the tub, and also blow up half the town. Anyway, dreams of future failures could wait. He had a bag to deliver and a name to clear. He would also probably have to give back his crim-reapers, but that was fine.

"Okay Sol let's go" Nova told her once she'd got her bearings.

They waved goodbye to Wilfred, who waved back saying, "Come again dearies, anytime you want".

"What did you do all day?" Sol asked Nova, afraid she'd missed out on something.

"Gathered herbs, brewed potions" Nova replied back, "Brewed another 20 distilled mana potions today."

"Only 20?" Sol asked. That was a low number of potions.

"Yep, if I continue at this rate, I'll have my potions in 16 days."

"That long?" Sol questioned, frown appearing.

"That long." Nova confirmed.

"What's the plan?" Sol asked Nova, confident on his planning-skills.

"First, we reach Berry-Berry wall." Nova said, "Then, we can relax."

"Wait, can't we relax now? Won't the hard part be –" Sol asked, unsure of what Nova was meaning.

She was interrupted by the ground, which had started rumbling. It was not a normal sound for the ground to make.

A huge Wabbit suddenly burst from the ground and landed on its powerful two hind legs.

It was about 3 meters tall, much taller than the half-a-metre Wabbits. It was wearing a black coat and top-hat and had a monocle on its nose.

Sol prepared to cast a fireball, but Nova stayed her.

"Hello, good sir!" Nova said, greeting the Wabbit. He had a feeling that he, a level 1 (He levelled up from all the potion making, slime-hunting, and quests from Wilfred), and Sol, a level 0 (Who was close to level 1) wouldn't be able to defeat the Wabbit, who looked to be a wave-boss, a type of boss in PLAYGROUND which spawned wave after wave of enemies. Nova presumed that this boss was meant to teach players to run away, or at least chose their battles wisely, as Nova was right now.

"Hello pipsqueaks!" the Wabbit said back, with a wave of its paw. "I am Wizzle, the Wise Wizarding Were-Wabbit!"

"Hello Wizzle, what can we do for you today?" Nova asked Wizzle, ignoring the name-calling. Bosses were allowed to insult players all they wanted.

"I need a mask for my next performance, and you've got an excellent substitute in that bag you have." Wizzle said, pointing to the panties in Margret's bag.

"Sir Wizzle, I'm afraid I need that substitute myself" Nova said, hand blocking the bag.

Wizzle's eyebrows narrowed. They were big, black and bushy.

"But I am happy and willing to do anything else" Nova quickly hurried, "I could make a mask for you perhaps?"

Wizzle rested a paw against his big, bushy beard on his chin. "Hmm.." he said, thinking. "Okay, I'm hungry. Either fetch me 300 carrots, A nice herbal tea, or a golden carrot."

Nova thought for a moment, and replied, "Sure thing, we'll fetch all three."
