Chapter 9

Harry's POV

I'm surprised that Draco actually agreed to be friends with me. Sure we have to keep it secret, but something is better than nothing.

I know where he's coming from. With me being the chosen one and him being a death eater, I can understand why.

Though, why is he a death eater? What would cause him to be one? Does he hate muggleborns? Or does he believe in Voldemort? I don't get it.

Then again, he didn't exactly say he's a death eater. Maybe I'm jumping the gun. I can't just assume the worst and even if he is a death eater, then I need to understand why.

But also, why were my memories erased? It doesn't make sense. I don't think people would care if we argued every once in awhile. It's frustrating to not know who he is. I feel like I do, but I just don't.

"Harry?" Hermione called.

I jumped slightly as my thoughts faded away. I turned my full attention on her.

"Yeah?" We're currently wandering the halls before curfew, kinda just getting a break from everyone.

"You and Malfoy. Is there something going on between you two that I should know about?" She questioned completely out of the blue.

I blushed slightly. "No! No, it's nothing like that. I'm just trying to understand him more is all. You know, understand why we fight all the time and stuff like that. Not having any memories of him is just really bugging me." I told her, honestly, though I didn't tell her everything.

"I can understand that and all, but ever since you lost your memories he's seemed very, uh, attached to you." She seemed hesitant to bring it up.

"I wouldn't know. How did he act around me before? Ron told me he was always in my business."

"Yeah, he is. That's certainly not changed, but I'm talking about how he's-well-nicer to you than I've ever seen him."

I paused slightly, not entirely sure on how to answer her. "I suppose." I said and looked down in thought. "Maybe it's because I'm not longer being a git back at him. He doesn't have a reason to fight me when I don't even remember why we fight in the first place."

Hermione put her hand on her chin in thought. Considering what I had said. "That could be it, I suppose. I just find it rather strange. It'd be odd if one day the two of you called it a truce and no longer fought with one another." She expressed.

I stiffened.

Does she already know that Draco and I are now friends? What if she finds out and doesn't approve? What if Draco finds out and decides to break it off between us?

"Harry?" Hermione's voice called. "Are you alright?" She asked.

"Uh-yeah!"

She looked at me suspiciously before shrugging it off. "We better get back to the common room. It's getting late." She said.

I only nodded my head as the two of us walked back to the Gryffindor common room.

When we walked in, there was only a few people out and about. Ron, Seamus, and Dean seemed to be in a deep conversation about quidditch, Neville was immersed in some herbology book, and Ginny was talking to some other girls in her year that I didn't really get to know the names of.

Hermione grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards the couch, not far from Ron.

"We've got that potions essay we need to finish and I know you haven't even started on it." She said pointedly at me.

I groaned. "But I want to join Ron and the others. Do I have to do this stupid essay?" I complained.

"Yes. Now, Ron!" She shouted.

Ron got startled for a second before collecting himself and turning his attention on Hermione.

"Bloody hell, 'Mione! I was in the middle of something."

"I don't care. You need to finish your potions essay, it's due tomorrow and I'm not doing it for you."

"I think I'll pass. We've got this great strategy on how to beat Hufflepuff next week." He told her with a wave of his hand before looking back down at some chart he had.

"Ronald Weasley! Now!" She shouted. "How do you ever expect to become a great Auror  if you don't do your homework."

"She's got a point, Ron." I stated, sitting down and starting on mine.

He groaned before coming to sit over with us.

"Don't agree with her, Harry. You'll only make it worse."

I laughed slightly. "Let's just get this done, yeah? Then she won't bother us anymore."

"True." He pulled out some parchment paper and began his work.

After a couple of hours of working, we were mostly done. "Harry, do you think we could find out more information about Malfoy since he seems so intrigued by your memory loss?" I stopped what I was doing and stared at him quizzically.

"What do you mean?"

"It's just, I think everyone has noticed how much closer he is to you recently. You know, because you lost your memories, but do you think we could use that to our advantage and find out some information?" He explained further, the wheels in his head turning.

"No."

"What?"

"I said, no. Listen, I know you have some beef with him, and probably so do I, but he hasn't caused any problems so far and I really don't think we need to be digging into his business."

"Harry's right, Ron. As much as we despise him, it wouldn't be right of us to take advantage of this. It's not fair for Malfoy and it certainly isn't fair to have Harry do it either when he doesn't remember anything." Hermione continued.

"But we could properly find out if he's a death eater or not, not to mention the serious stuff we could find out about his dad, maybe even find out where Voldemort's at!" Ron justified.

"I told you. I won't do it. Draco's not that bad of a person. Maybe get to know him more as a human being and less like an enemy."

Ron looked mortified at me. "I really wish your memories would return. I need the old Harry back, who used to agree with me."

"Truthfully, I don't think much is gonna change once I do. This has taught me something new and I already know a lot of what we've done to each other from you and you're right, he's a git for doing that, but so are we because we treated him the same way. Let's give him a chance. Maybe you'll be surprised."
