Chapter 14

Harry's POV

Draco is hiding something. I just know it. At first I didn't think much about it, but after I witnessed him acting so strangely after I confronted him about the room of requirement, I have noticed things I didn't before.

Like he tends to leave the room at a specific time of day, every day and disappears for hours, sometimes even the entire day.

I have watched him come out of the room of requirement a few times now, but I have no idea what he is doing or why it is so important.

Maybe he just needs alone time?

That's what I have been trying to convince myself of, but so far it is not working. I know something is wrong. I just have to find out what.

Today, a week before my potion is to finally be finished, is another day that Draco Malfoy has mysteriously disappeared, odd thing about it is that he's already been to the room of requirement. I watched him come out of it a couple of hours ago.

I thought he would be going back to his friends like he usually does, but according to Parkinson and Zabini, they haven't seen him since this morning.

So the question remains. Where is he now and what is he doing?

I decided to search the school for him. It's Sunday and so it's not like I have any classes to worry about. I can spend the rest of the day looking for him, if I need to.

I wish he would tell me what's going on. We're friends, aren't we? I know we have to keep it a secret, but we are still friends and so you think he would trust me, especially since I already know that he's technically a death eater.

However, I have noticed that I don't think his friends know either. They seem to have no clue about where Draco disappears off to, nor have they seemed too concerned about it.

They may not know exactly what he is doing, but I bet they have some idea and has just refused to tell me.

I continued to search the school, checking empty classrooms, astronomy tower, owlery, and other such places. I even enlisted the help of Zabini and asked him to check the Slytherin common room and dorm. He came back several minutes later and said he was no where inside.

"I'll keep looking for him, but if you find him head to the girls bathroom on the second floor." Zabini said after stating he couldn't find him in the common room.

"Myrtle's bathroom? Why there?" I asked.

"Granger is working on the potion there, wants us all to meet."

"Why didn't she just tell me that herself earlier?"

"How am I supposed to know that? She just told me to pass the message on if I saw you." He remarked.

"Alright, I'll be there once I find him." I said and left the dungeons.

He could be lying about Draco not being in there, I suppose, but I don't have much of a reason to think that he is.

Thus, I have continued on my search. This time, directing my attention outside.

I tried near the entrance of the forbidden forest, near the lake, and even around Hagrid's house. The last place I checked was the Quidditch field, which to my amazement, I found him flying around on a broomstick. He was weaving left and right, up and down, taking loops and full turns at top speeds. Sometimes it would look like he had turned too fast that he would momentarily let go of the broomstick, as if he is about to fall straight off.

Maybe he is trying to fall straight off. Flying around like that reminds me of all the times I have done the exact same thing, trying to get my mind off of something and when just flying would fail, I would resort to doing dangerous maneuvers that I eventually would actually hurt myself.

I watched Draco take another sharp turn and nearly fell off his broomstick this time. I had decided that this was not going to end well and I needed to get him to stop.

"Draco!" I shouted, but he seemed not to hear me. I sighed. "Accio broom!" I shouted after pulling out my wand.

A few minutes later and my broom came zooming down to me and I hopped on, chasing after Draco instantly.

Even though he stayed in the area of the quidditch field, it still took me a moment to reach him. He kept up his speed, not really intending to slow down, even in the slightest.

"Draco!" He still did not hear me, probably from the wind in his ears. He took a steep dive once again, going straight towards the ground. I followed him and dived as well. He got closer and closer to the ground. He was pushing the boundaries that usually only I would dare to push. "Pull up!" I yelled at him as loud as I could. If he went any further then there is a good chance that he can crash. "Damnit! Pull up!" I shouted again, but it seemed like he still could not hear me.

Out of reaction, I reached out for him and grabbed him by the arm and pulled him back. Thanks to the iron grip he had on his broom, it also got steered away from the ground with us.

I came to a halt and flew to the ground lightly before landing.

"What the hell?!" Draco screamed at me when we reached the ground. He pushed me away and out of his hold.

"Okay, why are you yelling at me? I'm not the one trying to shatter my head on the ground!" I said.

"I wasn't about to let myself hit the ground, you're over exaggerating!" He stated.

"Am I? Who knows what would've happened if I didn't stop you."

"I was fine. I knew what I was doing." He said, crossing his arms.

"Yeah, trying to get your mind off of something and not caring about what might happen to you." I said blatantly.

"What? I wasn't-"

"Don't lie to me. I've done the same thing before." I cut him off.

His jaw slackened slightly and he just stared at me for a few moments, not really saying anything.

I caught him red handed and he tried to cover it up, but I guess hearing that I've done the same thing has come as a rather surprise to him.

Though, I don't know why it was so shocking, after everything I've been through, of course I've had to find some sort of distraction, even if it's not the most healthiest version of it.

"You-but, why would you?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Are you really that surprised? After everything that has happened to me, sometimes the worse thing that can happen is letting yourself be drowned by thoughts. I know what it's like and I know what you were trying to do."

Draco looked down and away from me. "Yeah, well. It didn't start off like that. It just happened. One minute I was just flying normally and the next I didn't care how fast I was going."

"I understand, but next time try to care, or at least talk to someone if something is on your mind. I've ended up in the hospital wing one too many times for allowing myself to continue like that."

"You've actually hurt yourself doing that?" He asked, now looking back up at me.

"Yeah, after Cedric died I started getting into the habit. I think I broke my arm once or twice last year from it and I can promise you that it did not make me feel better about it by the end of the day, or stopped the voices." I explained to him. It's no secret. Hermione was pissed when she found out and then most of my friends wouldn't allow me to go to the quidditch field on my own for the rest of the year. Especially when I actually wanted to hurt myself after I lost Sirius.

I wasn't exactly in the greatest of head spaces towards the end of last year and my friends deemed it a bad idea to leave me alone at all. For good reason, of course, but I'd rather not think of the details.

Draco frowned at me. "I'm sorry about Cedric. What happened to him wasn't your fault."

I shrugged. "I think it will always bother me, but I'm better about it than I used to be. Anyways, want to talk about why you're so upset?" I asked, changing the topic from off of me.

He shook his head. "Just stuff at home is bothering me. Nothing I can't handle though."

"Does it have anything to do with Voldemort?"

Draco paled. "No. I just, have decisions to make, please, I rather not talk about it."

I knew he was lying. Whatever he is upset about has to do with Voldemort, it's written all over his face. However, I can't force him to talk to me.

"Alright, well just know that if you ever want to talk, you know where to find me."

He nodded his head. "Thanks."

Silence fell upon us, not really knowing what to say from here. I can tell that whatever is on his mind won't be going away so simply, not when he is lost in thought as deep as he is.

"Oh right!" I suddenly remembered. "Hermione wanted us to meet her in Myrtle's bathroom with the others. I think they are just waiting on the two of us."

"What? Why? Did something happen with the potion?" He seemed happy for the shift in conversation.

"I'm not sure. Zabini is the one that told me. We better go though, before Hermione loses it." I said to him. He agreed and the two of us were off.

It only took us several minutes to reach the bathroom. We glanced around us before entering the bathroom, just to make sure no one was watching us.

"There you are!" Hermione shouted from the floor of the bathroom as we stepped in. There was a bubbling cauldron with a silver substance inside and there was bottles of ingredients all over the floor.

Zabini, Parkinson, and Ron were all in the room as well.

"Looks like you found him." Zabini commented.

"Yeah, quidditch field." I responded simply. "What's up 'Mione? You wanted all of us here."

"Well, if I am being honest, I mostly wanted Malfoy. Think you can help me with the potion for a moment? These next few steps requires two people and you're the only other person I consider reliable when it comes to potions." She explained.

"Ouch, 'Mione, that hurt." Ron said dramatically.

She rolled her eyes at him and then focused her attention back on Draco. "Sure, what do you need?" He asked and kneeled down beside her and pulling the potions book close to him so he could read the steps.

"I have to add in the jobberknoll feathers and the powdered sage in at the same time while stirring counter-clockwise first." She said and Draco picked up the ingredients, leaning over to assist her.

"If you only needed Draco, then why are the rest of us here?" Parkinson asked.

"Right, I was hoping everyone could work together and start filling in pieces of Malfoy to Harry. When he takes the potion, he'll have a stronger chance of gaining his memories back if we give him more knowledge of what he lost." She began explaining.

"Why can't the two of you do it? You're his best friends." Parkinson questioned.

"Because most of the things we might say are probably negative. Harry deserves to hear both sides." Hermione said as she continued to stir the cauldron, while Draco added more ingredients.

"And how are we supposed to know how much Potter knows about him?" Zabini asked.

"I think you'd be surprised about how much Harry knows about him." Hermione smirked at me slightly.

My cheeks heated up and I looked away from everyone to avoid the embarrassment.

"Right, I forgot for a moment there that you're a stalker, Potter." Zabini commented.

"I am not a stalker! I just-" I sighed. "Well, actually, I don't even remember why I would know much about him, so I can't exactly defend myself in this moment."

Zabini was the one to smirk next. "Alright. Lets start with basic information. Draco loves the color green, his middle name is Lucius, favorite professor is Snape, least favorite professor is Dumbledore, famous catch phrase is 'My father will hear about this!' Oh, and magical creatures hate him." Zabini finished.

Most of the people in the room laughed, even I did a little, although obviously it would have been funnier if I remembered the inside joke that tagged along with his information.

"I thought you were supposed to comment on positive stuff." Draco said, a little bit of anger and embarrassment in his voice.

"We can't leave out anything, Draco dear." Parkinson said, draping her arm over his shoulders after kneeling beside him on the floor.

For some reason, the gesture angered me. I felt an overwhelming sense to punch her in the face or send a curse flying at her. I don't know why, but I do know most people would call this feeling jealousy, which is weird. There shouldn't be anything to be jealous of. It's not like he's mine.

I can't believe I just said that, but I can't deny the way I felt towards this interaction, my brain may not comprehend what was happening, but my heart seemed to in the absence. "Do you have a girlfriend?" I blurted out without thinking.

Oh Merlin, I can't believe I just asked that, in front of everyone too. This is turning embarrassing by the second.

Hermione and Ron held shocked expressions, surprised by my comment. Draco looked guilty and refused to make eye contact with me.

The other two in the room frowned slightly and even looked a little saddened.

I did not understand the reactions I got from the three Slytherin's and a part of me was frightened as to why.

Does he have a girlfriend? The thought alone boiled my blood, yet crushed my heart all at once, but again, I didn't understand why.

It's none of my business and besides, I doubt he would ever have any positive feelings towards me, even in the slightest.

"No. I do not." He answered honestly, but he acted like he had lost the one he loved. Who would that be and why did he look so regretful?
