The One They Ignored
I can't control myself anymore. The voice has become luring. Too sweet for my ears to comprehend. My feet drag themselves up the first step of stairs, meeting the bedrooms.
My hands tremble, my kneecaps quaking in fear of what might be upstairs.
My hands once again reach out for the railing. No one is here to stop me this time.
No Namjoon.
No one. No demons. No angels. No humans.
It's just the stairs.
The wood feels rough, almost splintered. As if it hasn't been taken care of for days - months even. The stairs creak softly under my feet, the voice becoming louder and louder.
Yet there are no more words. It's chuckling and growling. Laughter and dark snarling.
It becomes darker the more I go up, as if a light has never been on for years. I see dust particles and I can hear pitter patter of small insects.
"Turn the light on will you?" A deep husky voice grumbles. It echoes through the attic.
I almost hit my head on the slanted roof.
"The switch should be on your left. Just by the end of the stairs." He says again.
I feel around, the wallpaper has scraped off a lot and I feel the rough texture on the wall before I feel the switch of the light.
I blink when a bright flash turns on and it reveals exactly what I feared to see.
A black shimmer around a beautifully hooked golden cage. The bars are wired together with silver, gold and copper in the most intrigue details I never saw in my dream.
"Finally." The voice says again. "I've waited too long."
"It was one day..." I mutter.
"I'm impatient. I've waited decades for the next human." He growls deeply. "You don't know what it's like to be ignored. To be broken. To be... an outsider from the people you tried to protect."
"I don't even know why you're doing this. I don't even know who you are."
"Come closer then and stop staying in the corner."
"But I'm scared..."
"Listen up. I've gotten you where I wanted you. I'm not going to bother you any longer. I just need your help."
I hear him sigh and then a long groan follows, like a yawn.
"Anyway..." He mumbles. "Come closer. Let me see the girl who everyone's been trying to protect from my sights."
I hesitantly take a few steps towards the cage, feeling a strong dark energy rush through me.
The cage is dark, but I see the silhouette of a person stretching.
The silhouette slowly gets closer. I hold my breath when I can finally see the voice. An I'm stunned.
His skin is porcelain pale, lips opened up to yawn. He stretches one of his arms above his head, the other holding a thickly stuffed pillow.
He silently eyes me up and down with tired eyes.
"I'm not impressed." He grumbles. "I'm getting tired of looking at you. Whatever they love about you is boring to me."
"Who are you?" I ask.
He tilts his head and scoffs, his lips pulling up into a lazy smirk. "Where's the fun in telling you who I am?"
He rushes his free hand through his messy ash blue hair.
"I need you to get me out of here."
I frown. "Why are you up here anyway?"
"Not important. What is is that you get me out of here." He growls. "You know about the demons here. Obviously. I need you to make a pact with everyone in this house. I need their consent to be free. Obviously they won't give me it." He rolls his dark eyes. "It'd be best if you start with... either Hoseok or Taehyung. They'll be less suspicious of pacts."
I tilt my head slightly. "What do I get in return?"
"A complete history of all secrets of the Demons in the Devildom and how we came to be. How the Celestial Realm is an excuse for angels to be their deceiving self. How Earth is the balance between us."
"Am I not supposed to learn that at school?"
"You won't learn the right things. They hide. They all do. I'm here... because I don't want to hide from the truth any longer. These demons are running and hiding from it. Even my own twin brother refuses to believe the truth. With your help we can go back to what was once Heaven."
He sounds desperate. I can see his expression softening.
"I miss him..." He gulps down a lump of emotion. "I miss all of them. I want to know if they miss me... If they miss their grumpy older brother who never does anything... Who constantly sleeps and lives out his sin." He sighs deeply. "I suppose it doesn't matter. Do as you please. Keep in mind that the truth is always the most important. Whether it's for you or others."
With those words he retreats back into the shadow. And orders me to go downstairs and turn the light off.
I quickly do as told and I think his words over. Am I really sacrificing my time in the Devildom to free someone?
Yeah... Because the truth needs to be heard. No matter how painful it is. And that demon in there... that person... He is in pain.
I'm going to help him. No matter what.
I hear chatter downstairs and I recognize both voices as Hoseok and Taehyung, while the third remains... strange.
It sounds so pure. So angelic.
No matter. I have to begin. I don't have much time in the Devildom as I'd like and a year goes by faster than you think.
What should I do?
