Backstory of his au and what happened to him: During the time Frisk fallen down they terrorized the monsters they wounded a lot of them but most importantly they tried to break the core but W.D Gaster stepped in (he didn't fall in the core) and he pushed them into the core but the damage from them was already done. Gaster thought he needed to fix it... he started to go insane from trying to fix the humans damage and he started to get angry aswell why couldn't he fix the humans damage? Well right when he was trying to figure out how his oldest son sans came in at the wrong time so gaster threw one of the humans knives at sans making a very noticeable crack.
