"Ani, can you put the twins to bed? I can't leave this," Padme yelled from the kitchen, stirring a white sauce that threatened to burn.
"Got it," He yelled back, picking up a little blonde haired toddler wandering the house. "Come on monkey, let's go." Anakin brought a slightly perturbed Luke towards his bedroom, where Leia already lay on the floor playing with an action figure of some sort. As if on cue, while both parents were occupied, a knock came from the front door. Luckily it was only Ahsoka who felt free to let herself in.
"Hey guys, sorry I'm a little late at helping prepare, I got caught up." She came and set her chin on Padme's shoulder as she was still stirring.
"Ahsoka, I'm so glad you're here, you're right on time. Could you check the chicken? It should be almost cooked through by now." (I'm too lazy to not use chicken, pretend it's a tip-yip instead)
"Sure thing." A few minutes later Anakin emerged, having successfully put both kids to bed.
"Hey Snips!" He wrapped her in a hug when she was finished cutting a piece of meat open to see how cooked it was. She reciprocated the hug with a little chuckle.
"Good to see you too," Ahsoka chuckled and greeted him. "It hasn't been all that long, that was quite a welcome."
"I missed you anyway." The three of them worked happily in the kitchen for another half an hour or so until they heard Obi-Wan's gentle knock. It had been a long time since everyone had gotten together to spend time like this. He would have just yelled for Obi-Wan to come in, but he wasn't about to risk the kids waking up in the other room. "Obi-Wan, come on in. Dinner's almost ready."
"Scratch that, it's ready," Ahsoka greeted, walking up to the door where Obi-Wan had just entered.
"Well, it certainly smells amazing, what are we having?" The three of them made their way into the dining room where Padme had just finished setting the table. Her and Ahsoka had done most of the cooking. Not because they were asked to or expected to, they genuinely enjoyed making food for everyone. Ahsoka has become much better at cooking than when she was a Padawan, those days were filled with a few microwave disasters, and a whole lot of ration bars when she didn't even want to try to cook. Padme had been a good teacher, and now she was perfectly comfortable cooking, and even enjoyed it as long as the dishes afterward weren't overwhelming.
"Grilled chicken and alfredo. I think it's was Padme's mom's recipe?" She turned to the woman behind her.
"Yes, my mom made it when I was a kid. Why don't we dig in now that Obi-Wan's here?"
"Oh I'm sorry, am I late?" He said, concerned.
"No, not at all! Ahsoka just told me she'd come early to help. You were right on time." Padme assured him. With that they all sat around the table to eat the lovely dish the two ladies had prepared. There was mostly talk of recent missions with the Jedi Order, as well as a senate battle Padme had partaken in; Ahsoka hesitated to tell them bout her new... Friend, and waited until dinner was mostly done. She knew Anakin would likely go big brother on her if she told him, and had avoided it for close to two weeks, when her and Nyx had gotten together. Finally, the conversation died down and she was able to work up enough guts to say it. She had already told Padme because she knew her sister would keep a secret and be genuinely happy for her instead of grilling her about the boy like Anakin might.
"So... I thought I should tell you guys this," She set down her fork to put her arms both down on the table. "But I officially have a boyfriend now." She grinned, if a little forced with the amount of nervousness she was feeling. She searched Anakin's face and found hints big-brother concern, but mostly pride in his gentle smile.
"That's amazing Snips, when do we get to meet him?"
She looked suspiciously at him. "Are you gonna death glare him?" Ahsoka asked with a grin.
"Hey, I trust your choice in boyfriends, I know you can take care of yourself." He smiled fondly at his little sister, and continued with a mischievous smirk instead. "But a death glare wouldn't hurt."
"I agree with Anakin, that's really wonderful. I can't wait to meet him." Obi-Wan reached over to touch her hand in a loving manner. Anakin, noticing that Padme had said nothing yet, turned to his wife with a half faked, half genuine hurt face.
"Did you know?" He saw right through her smile, and she was forced to cover her mouth to stifle a laugh. "You told my wife before me? I'm hurt, Snips," He said, placing a dramatic hand over his heart.
"Hey, I didn't know how'd you react! A least I knew Padme would be happy for me."
"Fine, I forgive you, as long as we get to meet him soon. What's his name, what does he do?" He questioned. Ahsoka could tell, he was honestly happy that she had found someone. And he did trust her, he trusted her taste in men, and he trusted that she would beat them up if they ever hurt her.
"His name is Nyx, he owns a repair shop here on Coruscant, mostly ships. We met that time when I was coming back from a mission and my speeder broke down, do you remember that? I basically crash landed on his storefront." She chuckled at the memory.
"He has a repair shop? Snips, I approve of this relationship." He looked almost regal as he said it.
"Well thanks for your permission," She joked.
"He sounds like he'll do you good, Ahsoka. But yes, we do have to meet him soon." Obi-Wan added.
"Meet who, Auntie 'Soka?" Came a small voice behind them. It was a tired looking Leia, approaching in wrinkled pajamas, a light blue color with little clouds scattering them.
"Just a friend of mine, what are you doing up, pumpkin?" Ahsoka asked, getting out of her chair to scoop up the sleepy four year old in her arms. Despite being their unofficial aunt, Ahsoka was really close to the twins and would happily do just about anything for them. Hence, why she's their godmother.
"I couldn't sleep."
"Well you're looking pretty tired for someone who can't sleep," Ahsoka teased, rubbing circles on the little one's back.
"Here, I'll bring her back to bed," Padme told her, going to stand up from her chair.
"No, it's alright, I can do it." Leia mindlessly played with her headtail, tracing over the chevron pattern with her fingertip. "Let's get you back to bed, okay?" She said quietly to the child. She only nodded her head, her eyes growing heavy. Ahsoka walked out of the dining room with the half asleep child and back to the twins' bedroom where Luke still lay asleep. When she was safely out of the room, the three adults started speaking.
"She's so good with kids, she'd be such a good mother," Padme said, taking a hold of her husband's hand.
"She only just got a boyfriend Padme, I think you're getting ahead of yourself." Anakin chuckled and looked teasingly at her.
"You know I'm right though." Anakin paused for a moment but gave in.
"Yes, she really would be. That's hard to imagine." Anakin nodded his head.
"That's just because you'll always see her as a teenager, Anakin. In case you haven't noticed, she's twenty one." Obi-Wan joined in on the conversation. "She's really grown up now, don't be surprised if she ends up showing us an engagement ring pretty soon." His face going a little rigid, he spoke before Anakin could continue. "I couldn't believe it, Mace's face was hilarious." Anakin's brown furrowed in confusion at first, but soon heard footsteps behind him and caught on.
"That must have been quite the statement, what did he say?" Anakin remembered what story he was telling, it was one Obi-Wan had told a few days prior but Ahsoka luckily wasn't present, so they could get away with it.
"He was being sent to chaperone the younglings to find their kyber crystals. He tried to convince Master Yoda to send someone else but, in his words, 'needed to get out more, he did.'" The master didn't even try to fake the accent, but he made sure to keep the speech pattern the same.
"Sounds like you three had fun without me," Ahsoka said, sitting back in her chair.
"Just telling Anakin about what Master Yoda told Mace Windu the other day, it was hilarious."
"Ooh, tell me!" She readied herself for the story, but the three of them were still thinking about Ahsoka. Her new boyfriend, her affinity for kids, and how grown up she really had become. Anakin couldn't help but smile.
