Chaos ensues around The Green's residence when Rick brought Carl inside, the poor kid was shot at by an idiot hunter. They settle the young boy in a guest room, Hershel begins to prepare him for a surgery it looks like. "You know his blood type? " He asked Rick.
"A—positive." Rick replies. "S-same as mine."
"That's fortunate." Hershel says. "Don't wander far—I'm gonna need you." He looks up at an overweight man, "What happened?"
That's what I liked to know!
"I was tracking a buck." The man replies. "Bullet went through it—Went clean through."
"The deer slowed the bullet down, which certainly saved his life, but it did not go through clean. " Herschel explains. "It broke up into pieces. If I can get the bullet fragments out—And I'm countin' six."
The unknown man turns to Patricia, Hershel's right-hand helper. " I never saw him. Not until he was on the ground. "
"Lori doesn't know? " Rick went on to ask Shane.
"No, she—"
"My wife doesn't know." Rick cuts him off. "My wife doesn't know." The once cop now breaks down in tears with Shane comforting him. I felt bad for him, no father should ever see their child like this. On the brink of either life or death.
So, I resentfully place my head on his calf in comfort — Even though I semi like him.

Later on me and Snowy were downstairs since no dogs were allowed upstairs since we'll just be in the way, I can hear the boy's wailing in pain, poor kid. But soon the wails ceased. My gut clenches, now I wonder if the boy's dead or just passed out. Hopefully passed out.
"The kid'll be fine." Snowy told me. "Hershel knows what he's doing."
"I sincerely hope so." I said back.
"Don't worry. He'll be okay. I promise." I don't really trust anyone who makes a promise since they tend to break them, like Merle for an example, who said that he'll be back with his group — Only for his dumbass to get handcuffed on a roof and taken off with a stump of a hand.
But...I guess I'll have to trust his word.
"Alright." I mutter.

The day went by as the sun blurs over the mountain to cast a beautiful red and oranges with the ombre of violet and indigo that glows under the clouds. I heard that sunsets like these were more beautiful in the ocean.
I lay on the porch while watching the sunset with Rick, Shane went off with the hunter to look for supplies for surgeries while Maggie went out on horseback to go get Lori. I know it's mean to say this but this wouldn't happen if Carl would just stay with his mother, Hell even if Lori would just watch her child for one goddamn minute even.
I broke out of it when Rick commented, "It's beautiful, huh girl?"
I stood up and lazily made my way towards him and lay beside him, "Daryl's probaby out looking for you." Of course he is.
Soon Hershel joined us, "This place is beautiful. " Rick said.
"Been in my family 160 years." Hershel tells him.
"I can't believe how serene it is. How untouched." Rick says. "You're lucky."
Very lucky.
"We weren't completely unscathed." Hershel tells him. "We lost friends, neighbors. The epidemic took my wife, my stepson."
"I'm sorry. " Rick apologized.
"My daughters were spared. I'm grateful to God for that. These people here, all we've got left is each other. Just hoping we can ride it out in peace till there's a cure. " Hershel went on.
"We were at the CDC.. It's-it's gone now. There is no cure. " Rick told him.
" I don't believe it. When aids came along, everyone panicked. One boy in town came down with it, and some parents pulled their children from school, so they didn't have to sit in the same room." The farmer explains to the former cop.
"This is a whole other thing."
"That's what we always say—'This one's different.'" Herschel says.
"Well, this one is." Rick responds.
"Mankind's been fightin' plagues from the start. We get our behinds kicked for a while, then, we bounce back. It's nature correcting herself, restoring some balance. " Hershel explains.
"I wish I could believe that."
At this point Maggie came back on horseback with Lori behind her, Rick ran up and engulfed his wife in a hug. They walk back inside the house while I just glare at Lori, this shit wouldn't happen if Lori would watch her damn child.
