If you can think of one thing a dog can hate, what is it?
If the answer is a bath, you are correct.
The only real time I had a bath was in a river when a skunk sprayed me and was forced to be covered in tomato sauce and later bathe in a river — Now that I'm having a real bath...
I hate it. This is awful.
I looked like a wet animal, no matter how many times I tried to leave — Daryl would hold onto me tight and told me to hold still. "Stay still, girl. 'M almost done." He says. That's a lie.
In response, I shook my body to get rid of the water — Most of the water sprayed on Daryl's face. "Dammit Nyla!" He shouts. Ha that was funny!
After the rinsing process, Daryl added some substance that rubbed into my fur became foamy — I was gonna lick the foam when Daryl told me. "Don'cha lick that, that ain't gonna taste good."
I let out a grumble. Alright.
After adding the foamy substance Daryl rinsed it off while rubbing his hands through my fur, finally the bath was over when I trotted out of the shower and the archer placed a blanket around my body and rubbed it. When he's done, I shook my body again with a snort. "Alrigh', out ya get, let me take a shower now." he told me.
I snorted again and trotted out.

I found myself in the rec room where Carol and the kids were, I let myself rub against the carpet. "Looks like somebody had a bath." Carol said with a giggle. I stick my tongue with a smile as I lay beside the kids, Carl stroking my now fluffy fur.
Five minutes later Lori came in smelling like wine and looking tispy, "Any good books?" She ask with a smile.
"Uh-huh." Carol replies. "Enough to keep us busy for years— All right. Come on, kids, it's bedtime."
"But Nyla just got here." Sophia, Carol's daughter groaned.
"And I'm sure she's tired as well." Carol responds as her and the kids stand up.
"Baby, go say your prayers. I'm gonna browse a bit." Lori says. Acting like the apocalypse wasn't happening. Some mother.
I proceed to walk towards the room Daryl and I stay in, just to see Daryl already asleep — I gently close the door with a click. I jump on the bed and curl up at the left corner of the bed with a relaxing sigh, I proceed to fall asleep.
This time through the night.

The next day everyone was hungover from the previous night, I was feasting on my breaking that was mainly bacon and eggs. Poor Glenn was so hungover that he could barely eat any food — I would catch Carl sneakily giving me bacon from under the table.
After breakfast Jenner took us to the computer room where the computer pulled up a display of a brain, " Is that a brain?" Carl asks. Of course it is.
"An extraordinary one." Jenner replies. " Not that it matters in the end—Take us in for E.I.V.."
"Enhanced internal view." Vi, the...whatever it is, responds. It zooms into the display of the brain where it shows the nerves flashing lights.
"What are those lights?" Shane asks.
"It's a person's life," Jenner answers. " experiences, memories. It's everything—Somewhere in all that organic wiring, all those ripples of light, is you... the thing that makes you unique. And human." I watch Shane making eye contact with Lori, something must've happened when I left.
"Ya don' make sense, ever?" Daryl questions with his arms crossed.
"Those are synapses, electric impulses in the brain that carry all the messages. They determine everything a person says, does or thinks from the moment of birth to the moment of death." Jenner replies.
"Death? That's what this is, a vigil?" Rick joins in.
"Yes." Jenner replied. "Or rather the playback of the vigil."
"This person died?" Andrea ask. "Who?"
By the look in Jenner's eyes, it must've been somebody he knew or loved.
"Test subject 19." He replies. "Someone who was bitten and infected—And volunteered to have us record the process. Vi, scan forward to the first event."
"Scanning to the first event." It responds. Then the brain showed something dark starting to consume the brain.
"What is that?" Glenn questioned in confusion.
"It invades the brain like meningitis." Jenner explains. "The adrenal glands hemorrhage, the brain goes into shutdown, then the major organs. Then death—Everything you ever were or ever will be...Gone."
"Is that what happened to Jim?" Young Sophia asks her mother, who nods her head yes.
The computer shows the second step of what happens after the infection, it shows the brain completely dead, only showing darkness. Until a small light only showed at the stem but it wasn't as bright as it was before but dull and lifeless. It then shows a silhouette of a gun as it shot through the person's brain.
"God. What was that?" Carol asks.
"He shot his patient in the head." Andrea tells her. " Didn't you?"
Jenner let out a sigh, "Vi, power down the main screen and the workstations."
"Powering down main screen and workstations." Vi spoke while shutting it off completely.
"You have no idea what it is, do you?" Andrea asks the questions we're all thinking.
" It could be microbial, viral, parasitic, fungal." Jenner suggested.
"Or the wrath of God?" Jacqui suggested. Now that's something I agree with.
To add more to this day, now the scientist says that there's no other facilities like his, great!
"Man,'m gonna get shit-faced drunk again." Daryl mutters under his hands. I don't blame him.
"Dr. Jenner," Dale spoke up. "I know this has been taxing for you and I hate to ask one more question, but... That clock... It's counting down. What happens at zero?"
"The basement generators—they run out of fuel." Jenner replies. Now I can smell a lie from miles away.
"And then?"Rick asks, It was at this point Jenner left the room. " Vi, what happens when the power runs out?"
"When the power runs out, facility-wide decontamination will occur." Vi replies.

Back at our room, Daryl grabbed a bottle of whisky from the kitchen and took a full swig of it before pouring some in a bowl and placing it down on the floor in front of me. "Best drink up if we're gonna die." He said while taking another swig.
I sniff the strong alcohol and take a lap, I groan while shaking my head—The liquor burns my throat.
It tasted nasty. Why do humans like this?
I went in to take another lap when the lights suddenly flicker, my ears perk up at the sound of commotion outside, we both went out of our room to see the others ask Jenner questions. "Wha's goin'on? Why is everyth' turned off?" Daryl slurred. I wasn't sure how since he's still on bottle one.
Jenner just swipes the bottle away from Daryl as we follow him through the hallway, " Energy use is being prioritized." Jenner replies while taking a swig from the bottle.
"Air isn't a priority? And lights?" Dale asks from his doorway.
"It's not up to me. Zone 5 is shutting itself down." Jenner simply said.
"Hey! Hey, what the hell does that mean?" Daryl asks. But Jenner just ignored us as we headed back into the computer room, "Hey man, I'm talking to you. What do you mean it's shuttin' itself down? How can a building do anythin'?" Daryl asks again.
"You'd be surprised." Jenner simply responds.
"Jenner, what's happening?" Rick asks as he steps inside the room.
"The system is dropping all the nonessential uses of power." Jenner responds. " It's designed to keep the computers running to the last possible second—That started as we approached the half-hour mark. Right on schedule." Jenner offers back the bottle of whiskey Daryl has been previously drinking, Daryl snatching back the whiskey before Jenner begins to explain, "It was the French."
"What?" Andrea asks in confusion.
"They were the last ones to hold out as far as I know. While our people were bolting out the doors and committing suicide in the hallways, they stayed in the labs till the end—They thought they were close to a solution." The doctor explains.
Oh Jesus.
"What happened?" Jacqui asked.
"The same thing that's happening here. No power grid—Ran out of juice. The world runs of fossil fuel. I mean, how stupid is that?" Jenner replies. He turns to the computers.
Shane begins marching towards Jenner until Rick catches him by his shoulder, "To hell with it, Shane. I don't even care. Lori, grab our things. Everybody, get your stuff. We're getting out of here now!" He shouts.
Everybody begins to scramble away when an alarm goes off, the type where it'll leave you deaf temporarily. "30 minutes to decontamination." Vi spoke through the speakers.
"Doc, wha's goin' on 'ere?" Daryl spoke out.
" Everybody, y'all heard Rick." Shane spoke out. " Get your stuff and let's go! Go now! Go!" Everyone rushes to the door, when suddenly the door closes shut. I know this bastard did not just lock us here!
" Did you just lock us in?" Glen asks but not in his typical tone but in anger. "He just locked us in!"
Chaos ensued throughout the room, Daryl tried to kick Jenner when Shane and T-Dog swooped in and grabbed him. Rick marches over to Jenner, "Hey, Jenner, open that door now."
Jenner turns to Rick, "There's no point. Everything topside is locked down. The emergency exits are sealed." He tells him.
There has to be another way.
"Well, open the damn things." Shane said angrily.
"That's not something I control. The computers do." Jenner replies. " I told you once that front door closed, it wouldn't open again. You heard me say that—It's better this way."
"What happens in twenty-eight minutes?" Rick asks but Jenner doesn't respond.
Shane then steps forwards and ask angrily, "What happens in 28 minutes?!"
Jenner stands up, snapping when he says, "You know what this place is?! We protected the public from very nasty stuff! Weaponized smallpox! Ebola strains that could wipe out half the country! Stuff you don't want getting out! Ever!" He finishes off, so I guess that was the meaning of the straw that broke the camel's back.
He continues on, "In the event of a catastrophic power failure... in a terrorist attack, for example—H.I.T.s are deployed to prevent any organisms from getting out."
" H.I.T.s?" Rick asks, stepping towards him.
"Vi, define." Jenner shouts.
"Hits—high-impulse thermobaric fuel-air explosives consists of a two-stage aerosol ignition that produces a blast wave of significantly greater power and duration than any other known explosive except nuclear. The vacuum-pressure effect ignites the oxygen between 5,000° and 6,000° and is used when the greatest loss of life and damage to structures is desired." It explains.
Jenner steps in, "It sets the air on fire. No pain. An end to sorrow, grief. Regret. Everything."
I watch Carol trying to comfort her daughter as they both cry silently. I felt awful for them, they don't deserve this.
In anger, Daryl smashed the bottle of whiskey at the door. " Open the damn door!" He yells. Shane dashed towards the door arm with an ax as he began to try to chop the door along with Daryl who has an ax thanks to T-Dog who began to smash the door alongside Shane.
Meanwhile I lay beside the kids, my head on Carl's lap while Sophia wept on my fur while clutching it but I didn't mind — She was scared, we all are, including me. But some of us are better at hiding it.
Then Shane approaches us, "Can't make a dent." He said out of breath.
"Those doors are designed to withstand a rocket launcher." Jenner explains.
Then Daryl came with an ax, ready to kill. " Well, yer head ain't!" He said when every man came to subdue him while T-Dog ripped the ax out of his hand.
Damn what men do I hang out with?
"You do want this. Last night you said you knew it was just a matter of time before everybody you loved was dead." Jenner told Rick.
"I had to keep hope alive, didn't I?" Rick said.
"There is no hope. There never was." Jenner tells him.
"There's always hope." Rick elaborates. " Maybe it won't be you, maybe not here, but somebody somewhere—"
"What part of "everything is gone" do you not understand?" Andrea tells him. This bitch is starting to get on my nerves.
"Listen to your friend. She gets it." Jenner said. "This is what takes us down. This is our extinction event."
"This isn't right." Carol said through tear eyes. "You can't just keep us here."
Jenner leans forward on his chair, telling Carol. " One tiny moment—a millisecond. No pain."
"My daughter doesn't deserve to die like this." Carol sobs as she clings onto her daughter. I stood up to see Shane angrily stomped off.
"Wouldn't it be kinder, more compassionate to just hold your loved ones and wait for the clock to run down?" Compassion? For dying along with friends and family?
We all heard a cock of a shotgun when Shane steps in with a shotgun in hand, what is he crazy?
Rick tries to stop him but Shane pushes him off, "Open that door or I'm gonna blow your head off. Do you hear me?!" Shane threatens Jenner with a shotgun aimed at his head. His eyes were wide and his breath was ragged.
"Brother, brother, this is not the way you do this. We will never get out of here." Rick tried to reason with him but Shane ignored him.
" Shane, you listen to him." Lori steps in. Something was definitely going on here between these two.
Shane begins to shoot the computers, yelling out mad cries. Everyone seems to duck down, Daryl ducking down with his arm draped around me. I cling onto his abdomen. Rick is quick to disarm him before he shoots anybody, knocking Shane down. Now he's really crazy. " Are you done now? Are you done?" Rick asks him.
"Yeah, I guess we all are." Shane replies.
At this point I ignored all the conversation that's going on, only catching bits of pieces such as that test 19 was Jenner's wife — My eyes linger on Daryl who walks back to the thick door that has us trapped inside. He begins to repeatedly bring his ax down on it. I let out a while as I sat down and watched.
Then the door finally opened, Daryl turned to look at me. "C'mon Nyla!" He didn't have to tell me twice, soon me and the others made a run for it, we made it to the front entrance. The only problem was the glass itself until Carol pulled out a damn grenade. Luckily the explosion made the glass break on impact — We climbed through it and booked it to our mobiles, killing every walker on sight.
Once we reached the truck, I noticed Dale and Angela climbing through the window but where was Jacqui?
"Nyla, get down!" Daryl commands, I did what I was told. I hide on the seat while Daryl shields me.
I heard the loud explosion of the facility being blown up, when the coast was clear — we sat up to see the building now in ruins. I looked at Daryl with a whine.
What are we going to do now?
He just let out a sigh while starting the car—We drove away and headed God knows where.
Looking for any source of hope now.
End of season 1.
