9: Coworkers

I stumbled out of bed and over to my window. I opened the the curtains. The bright light temporarily blinded me.

I noticed, as I looked out the window, over the driveway, that Caiden's car wasn't in the driveway.

He must have gone out really early this morning.

Letting out a loud yawn, a wandered down the stairs, and to the kitchen.

Case sat at the breakfast bar, devouring a stack of pancakes. There was maple syrup dripping down his chin, and he quickly wiped it away.

He took a long drink of water, he glared at me over the rim of his glass.

I narrowed my eyes at him, not breaking the stare.

I was still really pissed off at him, and waiting for my apology.

I know that he'll cave eventually, and admit that I'm right.

"'Morning sweetheart." my mother sang, flipping some bacon in a pan.

"Good morning," I yawned. "You're going all out for breakfast today, eh?" I ran a hand through my hair, trying to get it out of my face.

"Sunday family breakfast," She smiled at me. "It's good to have options."

Ever since I could remember, my mother has been cooking breakfast for the whole or family to eat together.

Most of the time she would make french toast or pancakes, but some times she made waffles, crepes or scrambled eggs.

French toast was always my favorite, but waffles were a close second.

My mother scooped up three pancakes and stacked them on a plate. She added some bacon, and handed me the plate, along with a fork and knife.

I seated myself as far away from my brother as I could, just to prove my point.

Yes, I was being childish and pretty, but I wanted him to know I was still upset.

The murmur of voices got louder as Ray and my father walked up the stairs from the basement.

"He does this way too often," Ray spoke. "My wife would've been able to deal with him."

"Lindsay and I, would be happy to try and help." My father offered.

"I'd appreciate it, but I'm not quite sure he'd listen. But maybe we could try."

Their conversation ended when they entered the kitchen.

What did Ray mean by his wife? Where is she? Is she still his wife? Maybe she kicked him out? But why kick Caiden out too? And why did he say would've?

I had a lot of questions.

But none of them were my place to ask.

It was none of my business.

But that didn't mean I couldn't be curious.

"Morning honey," My father leaned over and pecked my mother's lips. "Smells delicious."

"This looks fantastic Lindsay, you're an amazing cook." Ray complemented, as him and my father took their plates of food.

Ray gave me a confused look, noticing the space in between my brother and I.

After I didn't give him an answer, he just shrugged, sitting down next to me, and took a big bite of his steaming food.

I continued eating my heaven on a plate, when my mother asked Ray a question.

"Where's Caiden?"

Ray let out an audible sigh. "He went out last night and isn't home yet. But he texted me, he's at his girlfriend's house."

"At least you know where he is." My father reasoned with him.

"Could be worse. I just wished I was able to raise angles like your children."

"Oh they're far from angels." My mother chuckled, ruffling Case's wavy, blonde, hair.

I smiled and set my empty plate on the counter next to the sink.

Then, I ran upstairs to try and get ready for work.

###

I yanked my keys from the ignition, and shoved them in my purse.

Taking a deep breath I stepped out of my car, slamming the door.

My nerves only got worse as I approached the building.

I yanked open the glass door and approached the sign that pointed towards the office.

Walking down the short hallway, I took a deep, shaky, breath. Then I nocked on the door.

A few moments later the door opened and a tall brunette smiled at me.

"I'm guessing you're Ashlyn." She stepped aside to let me in the office.

I nodded.

The smile on my face threatened to leave, when I noticed Brogan standing behind her.

A bored look on his face.

"Stephanie, owner of the cinema." She stuck her hand out for me to shake, which I took.

"This is Brogan, he'll be your trainer today. Here's your uniform," She handed me the folded shirt and hat. "You can change in the bathroom, then meet Brogan at the front counter."

With that said, she ushered us out of the office.

I quickly changed into the black polo, and the matching, topless velcro hat. Both hat the theater logo sewn on.

I tucked the shirt into the front of my ripped jeans.

Tightening my ponytail, and walked out of the washroom.

As I approached the counter, Brogan flipped a section of it up, so I could get behind it.

Without saying anything he stuck a piece of paper to my chest.

Looking down at the paper, I read it.

'TRAINEE'

Did he seriously need to stick the paper on himself.

I'm not a child, I could've done it myself.

Brogan still pushes my buttons, just like he always did.

"Okay, I'll show you how to make the popcorn first." He said, in his usual monotone voice.

I followed him over to the popcorn machines, as he opened the glass door on an empty one.

"So you put a scoop of kernels in the popper at the top," He proceeded to take a metal scoop full of kernels from a bucket, ad pour them into the popper.

"Close and lock the door, and press start." He pushed the button and waited for the popping to start.

We stood in silence for a moment.

The kind of comfortably uncomfortable silence.

Silence that no one was making an effort to break, but was still slightly awkward.

"Why do you need a job?" He finally said.

"Because I wanted one." It took me a few seconds to figure out what I wanted to tell him. I wasn't going to tell him my actual situation.

He scoffed.

"Like you actually need a job."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I crossed arms over my chest, and glared at him.

"You have your daddy's money, why do you need your own?"

"What if I want to work for my own money?"

Brogan started to walk over to the register his back to me.

"I find that hard to believe considering you're a bit of a rich bitch."

Did I hear that right?

"Excuse me?"

His back was still to me as he opened Snapchat on his phone.

"You heard me."

This smug bastard.

"Just show me how to work the register, and leave me alone."

"Fine."

After doing what I had asked him, Brogan went off to go talk to another coworker. The girl that checks tickets.

They were busy laughing, and the brunette seemed like she was enjoying herself.

That poor girl has no idea what she's getting herself into.

I turned my attention to some customers who were approaching.

A middle-aged woman and two little girls.

They ordered their drinks and food, and I carefully typed in the cost of the order, and gave them their change.

A new movie had just started playing a few minutes ago, so the canteen was pretty empty.

My gaze drifted to the Black Bean coffee shop, just down the hallway of the mall, the theater was attached to.

That's when I spotted Caiden and Corbin McCrddie, standing in line, waiting to order.

Corbin's bleach blonde hair was a mess, and his shirt wrinkled. But Caiden looked a little better, although I couldn't see his face.

Then he noticed me.

And we began another one of our staring contest.

But Corbin followed Caiden's gaze, and met mine.

I gave him a small smile which he didn't return, then I turned my attention to my phone.

Texting my father, I let him know to tell Ray that Caiden's at the mall.

A father should have the right to know where they're child is.

Especially if they're child isn't the most obedient.

A/N:
so I had like really bad writers block writing this chapter, so it might not be the best. But what do you guys think of Brogan? Even when I was planning out his character I was starting to hate him. But anyways, stay tuned for the next chapter.
