TRQ (Version I) | Chapter 4 - I go to a New and Terrifying School

When I woke up, I got out of bed. I had this strange dream that this cute new guy came to Castle and he told me I was a witch, and brought me to this new world, where I met his cousin, Vixen and then met the Violet Queen. Then Vixen and I had a conversation over dinner about the new world and I found out that Mystical might go to war.

I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes, grabbed a change of clothes, and headed to the bathroom. I took a quick shower, still thinking about that really weird dream. When I got out of the shower, I got dressed in my usual black jeans, ripped at the knees, long sleeved red shirt with a faded crown on the back, and my over sized hoodie. I then continued my routine of getting ready and brushed my teeth.

I was staring at myself in the reflection of the mirror, while brushing my teeth. Then realized something. This bathroom was big - a lot bigger than the one at Castle Orphanage, and almost everything was white, the towels, the smooth and polished counters, the carpet was a light grey and the walls were white. This was not the bathroom at Castle Orphanage. And neither was the bed I woke up in, or my toothbrush ... My dream wasn't a dream after all ... And am I using Vixen's toothbrush? I almost gag and spit out anything I can and wash my mouth out. Officially being done with my morning routine, I walk out of the bathroom, and I smell something good.

I walk a few steps to get out of the small indented area in the wall that lead to the bathroom door on my side of the room, and walking into the main room where my big bed was with an empty dresser pushed up against the wall on one side, and Vixen's stuff on against the other side, leaving a big space in the middle, where a long white table that wasn't there yesterday divided the room in half, leaving about six feet to walk around to the other side.

On the table was a plate of bacon and eggs with orange juice and another small plate with a large stack of pancakes. It was my favorite breakfast meal, and Vixen was standing by it, smiling a goofy smile.

"Hey, I thought you were going to sleep the day away!" he tells me. I just give him a look.

"If I don't have school, I do sleep the day away after doing stuff," I tell him and walk to the table. "Is this for me?"

He nods, "I wasn't sure what you liked, so I put my favorite breakfast items together."

I smile and sit down in a light grey chair. "Thanks, it's my favorite breakfast."

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!" he exclaims with a smile. "And trust me, today, you're going to need a lot of energy. We might even go to a couple classes depending on what time we finish."

I finish swallowing a bite of a pancake. "When we finish what?"

He smiles, and I can't be sure if it was an evil smile or not. "Shopping, of course!"

I groan. I strongly dislike shopping - strongly dislike being my nicer version for hate.

👑💓👑💓👑💓👑💓👑

"Is it possible to get so tired from shopping for school stuff, that I'm sweating?" I ask Vixen, taking a seat on the white couch we moved to my side of the room.

He follows my lead and sits down next to me. "No, but decorating your half definitely is sweat-worthy. You are way too precise."

I was too tired to smack him. It was only mid-day, but decorating my side was pretty tiring.

We painted the walls hot pink since it contrasted well with the white furniture and Vixen's newly-painted dark grey walls. And since there was two of us now, and each place with subjects of the Mystical Royalty living in, there was supposed to be the royal seal somewhere - kinda like how Americans hang the American Flag on the outside of their house, only the royal seal is supposed to be painted on the inside. Vixen previously had it on the door, but we moved it to where the grey would have met the pink, above the white table separating us, in between two large windows which again, gave us perfect view of outside, when we aren't supposed to be able to since we're in the middle of Mystical Academy, and only classrooms lined the border of the academy.

My dresser was now against the far wall and my bed being about a couple meters away from the table, and there's still space to fit a big desk between the bed and dresser with all my new supplies and notes that Vixen magically quickly copied from his notes for me. The dresser's wooden cabinet doors were open, revealing my new clothes that were similar Vixen's - tight grey leggings with black swirls imprinted on them and a tight grey tank-top with the royal seal over the heart. The few pictures I had of me (just school photos and photos taken of me when we went on the rare times we went on field-trips) hanging on the wall and on the corners of my white desk. The white couch that was in the center of the room was moved against the wall and it face my bed, which meant it also faced the windows. The un-moved small half-circle table that the violet rose was still on being next to the couch.

I didn't really have much other stuff to decorate my room half with - especially compared to Vixen's - but it was fine.

Why am I so tired from this little decorating, you might ask? Well, Vixen decided it would be more fun if we didn't use magic to paint the walls, or assemble the desk and move it, or to move the tall and heavy dresser, or to move the bed ... It was a lot of work I was hoping to avoid when we could've used magic. Stupid Vixen and his stupid bonding idea through working together to move the stupid furniture and his stupid goods looks making me stupidly agree, I thought to myself.

"Hope your ready to have a class today!" he exclaims, cheerfully. I turn to look at him and give him my you're-joking-right? look.

"You're joking right?" I ask him, voicing my facial expression. "If you're not, can I just take a nap for like, two, three, fifteen hundred hours before going?"

He gives a weak laugh. "C'mon, you can manage two hours of class. Besides, today we just have History and ability lessons left."

"Ability lessons?"

"Telepathy for me, and I guess you'll be there too since we don't know what yours is," he explains. "And there's also the big telekinesis part - a lot of things you can do with telekinesis. And my least favorite, telorabing."

"What's telorabing?" I ask him, stalling.

"It's pretty much teleporting, but only doing it on objects and the matter around you," he says. "It's another form of telekinesis."

"How is teleporting objects a form of telekinesis?"

"Think about it, telekinesis is moving things with your mind, your thoughts, right?" he says and waits for me to nod. "Well, teleporting the object is like moving it, only you just move it somewhere you can't see."

"Is it possible to teleport yourself?" I ask, thinking back to when Stefan - at the time - brought me to Mystical with the violet mist.

"Only highly skilled witches can - meaning royalty," he replied. "But, if the ruler of Mystical gives an elf that's really good at telorabing and telekinesis some of their magic and knows how to use it properly, then an elf can teleport themselves, and possibly others. Salvatore did that with you."

He gets up and holds a hand out to help me up too, and I take it, groaning. "Do we have to go?"

He laughs. "It'll be fun, I promise. And if it's not, I'll make it fun."

I raise my eyebrow at that, but don't say anything as we walk down the twisting halls of Mystical Academy to my first-ever class here, History.

👑💓👑💓👑💓👑💓👑

"Vixen," a women that looked to be about twenty wearing her brown hair in a bun, and glasses over auburn eyes addressed Vixen when he opened the door to the classroom. She noticed me coming in behind his tall frame and smiles. "And his new partner."

She walks towards me and holds out her hand for me to shake. "Hello, I'm Ms. Karina, I'm your History mentor. And don't worry, History class won't be boring like how they are in human schools - no offense, of course - we have some fun in here."

I smiles shyly, and shake her hand. "I'm Eva, Eva Mystica."

I heard gasps coming from the other six apprentices in the room, and Ms. Karina's eyes found mine, and her smile fell off. But she quickly recovered. "It's nice to meet you, Eva. And I hope that you can finally be the partner that Vixen's been needing."

Vixen just smiles and rolls his eyes. "C'mon, Karina, I haven't needed a partner, and you're glad I'm in your class. I'm the one that makes your 'fun' activities actually fun!"

Ms. Karina smiles again, and adjusts her glasses. The smile wasn't a sweet smile, nope. It was the smile a teacher gave you when she was about to give you detention - I should know. "Vixen, take your seat and be quiet."

"You know that's impossible for me," Vixen responds.

I grab Vixen's arm and drag him to an open seat that was apart of those two-people desks, and sit down next to him. I recognise Andrea for yesterday in the seat in front of us, and the blonde guy sitting next to her who is probably her partner, Troy. At least I know someone else in this class besides Vixen. There were four other people in the class, all at two-seated desks most likely with their partner, paying attention to the font of the class. I'm so glad that Vixen and I are in the back desk, otherwise I have a feeling people would be studying me.

"Since we have a new apprentice, we're just going to review a few things," Ms. Karina announces and I hear a couple "yes"s echo throughout the room, and some notebooks close, and vanish in front of my very eyes. This is going to take a while to get used to.

"Let's start with something easy, in which year was Queen Violet's coronation?"

A girl with straight and long blonde hair raised her hand almost immediately, and Ms. Karina called on her. "Fourteen years ago, in 2002."

Ms. Karina nods, "Good job, Samina. What were the names of Queen VIolet's parents?"

Another blonde girl that sat next to Samina raised her hand, and waited to be called on before answering, "Her Majesty was named Eliara, and His Royal Highness was named, Rissendor."

"Good job, Sariah," Ms. Karina said, and went on with some more questions that of course everyone in the class knew the answers to except for me. Ms. Karina asked a question that caught my attention, "How old was the Violet Queen when her parents died?"

I raised my hand unknowingly, and she called on me. "She was three I think, and her -" I stopped before I could say, sister was seventeen, and that's when she became known as the Red Queen instead of the Red Heir.

Ms. Karina looked surprised that I knew that, then said, "Yes, then her guardian took care of her up until fourteen years ago, when she became queen."

I saw Vixen give me a confused look, but his eyes told otherwise, were they knowing? I shrugged it off and payed attention to the front again, as the other apprentices answered the other questions. After about twenty minutes of this, Ms. Karina gave us free time, but called me up.

"Yes, Ms. Karina?" I greet her.

"How did you know the answer to that question?" she asks me. "And what were you going to say about the Violet Queen's guardian?"

I gulped, Salvatore said not to talk about the Red Queen in here, since most of the kids don't know about her. But Ms. Larina is a teacher, I can trust her right? "I saw it in the notes that Vixen made for me. And I was just going to say her guardian took care of her and helped her make all the decisions until she became queen," I lied. I don't know why, I could trust a teacher right? She probably already know about the Red Queen, right? I mean, she looks twenty, but she's probably older than that, so she would know about the Red Queen, right? UGH! Why do I have to be so different from other witches and elves? Why couldn't I be normal?

She nods like she believes me, but I know she doesn't. "Okay then."

I take that as my cue to leave, and I turn around. Then I think of a question to ask her, and turn to face her again. "What specific elves have green eyes?"

That takes her by surprise, and she stutters a little. "Well - I - I suppose it would be those who are destined to rule, or immediate royalty."

"Oh," I mutter. "Have there been witches that have had green eyes and weren't royalty, or destined to rule?"

She sighs and takes her glasses off, her yellow-auburn eyes shining brighter without the glass. "No, not that have been recorded anyways."

I look down in shame, like I've done something wrong. I'm not important, much less destined to rule.

As I start to leave, Ms. Karina tells me, "I'm sure you'll do great things in your life, Eva."

I smile, but don't really put much into it, and say, "Thank you."

👑💓👑💓👑💓👑💓👑

Mr. Concren was a cool guy. He had pale blonde hair and was the tall type, with stormy grey eyes - so he was an elf. He was funny and made jokes all the time, but still taught us at the same time. If all teachers were like this, I would look forward to going to school everyday.

After the class quieted down from his last joke, he chuckled, "Alright, get with your partner and practice reading each other's minds, remember, their minds not just their thoughts."

Vixen turned to me, "So ... You're not thinking of anything embarrassing right? Cause, I really would enjoy making fun of you for it."

I grunt and smack his arm. "Please, you're the one that's probably thinking about your baby pictures right now."

He raises his eyebrow. "I bet you looked adorable as a baby."

I smile, and respond with "In fact, I did. A lot more than you, too!"

He just smirks, and looks like he concentrated on something, that something being my forehead. I widen my eyes and smack his arm again. "You jerk! You did that on purpose!"

He laughs. "It works everytime, and by the way, you don't know what you looked like a baby, did you?"

My smile fades a little. "Not really. I don't have any baby photos of myself and I can't remember what I looked like as a baby from memory, could I?"

"No," he says. "I guess not."

"Kay, now come on, try to read my mind," I order him and he does. I try not to think about anything embarrassing. But I think back to Mr. Concren's lesson today, about reading someone's mind not their thoughts. And then I remembered that not thinking of embarrassing or personal things would be pointless since he isn't looking for that. That's when I realize that there are things about me he could find out, things I don't want him to know, things I can't let him know. But it was too late, because his smile faded.

"You've been having dreams?" he asks me, in a serious tone.

I give a nervous laugh, trying to cover it up. "Yeah, of course. Who doesn't have dreams?"

"You've been having dreams about ..." his voice trails of, and he looks around, making sure no one can hear what he's about to say in a quieter voice. "The Red Queen."

My eyes widen in surprise, and that reaction gave it away. "How do you know about her?"

"My cousin - who's also my best friend - is engaged to her," he reminds me. "Of course I would know who she was."

"Oh," I felt silly now, thinking that Salvatore wouldn't have told Vixen about the Red Queen. "Wait, but you said that you didn't know who Salvatore loved."

"Well yeah, I'm not supposed to talk about her, and I didn't think you knew about her."

"Oh." It seems like that's all I can say these days, oh.

"Let's get back to practicing."

And that's what we do for the rest of the twenty-eight minutes left of class. We - well more like he - practices his telepathy, but just reading my thoughts, and we don't talk about the Red Queen anymore.

Why can't I be normal? Seems like that's all I've been asking myself lately.
