five | eden of skaikru

The next time that Eden sees Roan, it's three months later.

After their hunting trip, which turned into much more, they had taken the deer back to camp and repeated the tryst that had happened against a tree. There was laughter and light kisses shared between the two while conversation flowed. They talked about stuff they hadn't had a chance to talk about before; him about living on Earth, her about living in the sky, both about their people. He left the camp after cleaning and gutting the deer for her, parting with a deep kiss that made her mind whirl and her knees weak. That was the last time she had seen him.

Back at Arkadia, everything was falling apart. Clarke and Bellamy had saved their people in Mount Weather, but to do so, they killed all of Mount Weather's people. Clarke had taken off on her own, becoming Wanheda, the commander of death. When they had all come home, including her father, she had decided it was time to move back, especially because Roan had disappeared without a trace.

Over the course of the three months, she had spent a lot of time with Bellamy and even his girlfriend, Gina. She grew closer to Octavia as they spent time together eating food and talking about their new lives here on Earth. But when Bellamy had joined forces with Pike, she found it was hard to encourage him or be friendly with him, but she also couldn't explain to him that the reason she didn't join them was because of a Grounder who had saved her life, that she had befriended and even had begun to fall for.

When Kane and Abby left for the Summit to retrieve Clarke from Lexa, they had offered her a chance to go with them, to visit Polis with them. But she had turned it down when she learned that the person who had captured her blonde friend was Prince Roan of Azgeda, her thoughts telling her that the prince had used her to gain information about her fellow Sky people. Her stance on going to the Summit, though, changed when an Ice Nation girl broke into camp and revealed the Ice Nation's other plans for the Summit.

"You're Echo kom Azgeda," she had breathed after Bellamy had told her who the Grounder girl was. "I've heard about you."

"From who?" Echo had asked warily, looking at the brunette with cautious eyes.

She looked to the Blake siblings, next to her, and then back to the Grounder who was a part of Roan's clan, "I am Eden kom Skaikru."

The girl's eyes had widened, staring at the brunette girl standing in front of her, "You? You're Eden?"

"What do you mean?" Bellamy asked, crossing his arms.

Eden shook her head, "Let it go, Bell. At least for now. What are you doing here, Echo?"

"The Summit," she said, letting out a sigh. "It's a trap. All of Skaikru will die. We have to go save them."

Bellamy had believed her without any hesitation, trusting her completely. Eden had been more wary of the Ice Nation girl, having different knowledge of her. Roan had told her about his whole clan the last time they were together, about the girl who was willing to do anything to save her own people, whose loyalty ran deep. But she had agreed with Bellamy: they had to save their people. Everything after that happened in a rush. They had recruited Pike in their efforts, despite Eden's apprehension. When no one answered their radio calls, they had decided to go to Polis to save their people.

Eden had hesitated for a moment, watching them pile into the Rover. Octavia glanced back at the older brunette, confused by her actions. But then, almost as if her body had a mind of it's own, she was in the back of the Rover, sitting with Echo. Bellamy drove fast, but they still had time to talk, quietly so that the three in the front of the Rover wouldn't overhear.

"How has he been?" Echo asked her.

"Bell? Good," she told her, glancing at her friend, knowing that the two had met in Mount Weather. "But he's making some not great decisions lately, as I'm sure you're aware of."

"I didn't mean Bellamy," Echo laughed quietly. "I meant Prince Roan."

"What do you mean?"

The Grounder smirked at her, "You don't have to lie to me. I know that he came to you when he was banished from Azgeda, when Nia became queen."

"He was banished?" Eden asked, her eyes wide. "Why?"

"Nia believed he had grown too find fond of a certain Sky girl," Echo told her with a look. "I thought he would have found himself at your camp."

Eden shook her head, "I haven't seen him in three months."

They fell into silence after that, neither of them knowing what to say to the other. When they reached Polis, it was another rush of actions. She flinched every time that Bellamy or Pike killed a Grounder, Octavia doing almost the same thing. Somehow, within all the bustle, they had lost Echo and taken a hostage. There was an argument between the Blake siblings, Eden taking Octavia's side, before the four of them burst into the room where the summit was being held, Bellamy holding their hostage.

As soon as she made eye contact with Roan, it was like the world had ceased spinning. Nothing being said was processed by the brunette as it felt like she was being drawn to him, his eyes on her wide and warm, reminding her of their final day together. That was all it took had for her to realize how stupid her thoughts been, that there was no way he could have been using her to gain knowledge of her people or using her in any other way. It took all of her effort to not follow her heart in it's journey to him, but she stayed in place. Even as everything fell apart and the Ice Nation people got arrested.

Octavia dragged her along as they went to leave, but when Clarke told Bellamy that she would be staying, Eden took that as her cue and she told them she was staying too, that she needed time away from the Grounder killing mentality that a lot of Arkadia had come to have. Bellamy had angrily left the blonde and the brunette behind as they fled back home, to the death and destruction within Mount Weather. Clarke soon left her alone, in her own pursuit of the heart.

It didn't take Eden long to follow her heart, finding herself where they were keeping Roan and the rest of his people. He had his own cell, separate from them, so she didn't have an qualms about standing in front of him, her hands on the bars of his cell. The other Ice Nation people could see her, but they couldn't reach her, or even him if they grew angry with the way she was sure he would greet her adoringly. He didn't notice her at first, but he looked up when she cleared her throat. Within seconds, he was standing in front of her, his hands resting on top of her. She looked down at their hands and then back up at him, but didn't move her hands an inch.

"You left," she said quietly. "After that day, you left."

"I was banished from Ice Nation. I was offered a chance to prove my loyalties, by capturing Clarke for Lexa and my mother. I didn't want to drag you into that and by the time I came back to see you," he said, his voice soft and comforting, "you had gone back to living in Arkadia. With your people. So I let you go."

"I thought maybe we crossed a line that wasn't ever meant to be crossed and you left me."

"I lost my clan because someone saw us that day and reported it to my mother. And I blamed you for awhile, but I no longer blame you. It was never your fault and I shouldn't have thought that."

"What now?" she asked gently, hoping that no one was listening in on them. "What are we going to do?"

"Well, once I get out of here, we can figure everything else out. For now, I just want a chance to see you and even possibly kiss you."

So then, without thinking about who could see them or what she was doing, she leaned closer and pressed her lips to his. The kiss is brief and a little awkward through the bars of the cell, but they didn't mind. And when they broke apart, they both sat down, their hands linked together through the bars. Neither paid any attention to the looks that they were receiving from the Grounders around them. Instead, they just focused on being in the moment, with each other.

He got released later, after his mother was taken through the chambers and to answer to her sins. Whispers floated around them of a vote of confidence that wasn't unanimous, unless Skaikru's vote didn't count. That Nia had challenged their Heda to a battle to death, picking Roan as her champion. And when he got released, he kept a hold of Eden, as to not lose her in the journey to where the guards were taking him.

When he found himself in front of Nia, Eden's grip on him lessened. His mother sneered at her, so she gently laid a hand on his cheek and diverted his attention to her. He smiled down at the girl in a show of his support, squeezing her hand in solidarity. Her heart soared at the look in his eyes, the one that told her that he felt the same way about her that she did for him.

"Your mom is not happy that I'm here, so I'll go find Clarke and find out what's going on from her. Be safe."

"Don't leave me, don't leave Polis," he whispered, stroking her hair.

"Never," she replied, leaning into his wrist.

So they parted ways, him to talk to his mother and her to talk to Clarke. They reunited when he came to Clarke, willing to plan his mother's death with her.

It surprised Clarke how at ease Eden was with the man who had kidnapped the blonde, using her as a bargaining piece for his clan. She had watched as the older brunette gravitated towards Roan, as his hand found a home on her back as the three plotted together. And when they were done, she watched as they walked away together, their heads bent together as they talked.

"How is your leg doing?" he asked when they reached his room in the tower, finally in the privacy of a room that had a closed door.

She grinned, letting go of him to peel the pants she was wearing down enough for him to see the healed skin on her thigh. The sutures had dissolved as her skin healed, leaving a scar that marred her beautiful tan skin. He grinned when he saw that it was healed, his fingers tracing it before he placed a kiss against the pale scar tissue. She giggled at the feeling of his lips against her sensitive skin, her fingers weaving into his hair as he pressed kisses against more of her skin.

"We probably shouldn't," she whispered, her voice full of regret as she spoke.

"Why?" he asked, pausing and looking up to her.

"You could die tomorrow, our people hate each other, and it's been three months."

"Three months ago, the threat of death was still there. Our people still hated each other then," he said, grabbing a hold of her waist as he stood up. "And we had never done that before. What makes today any different?"

When she couldn't think of any reason not to continue what both of them wanted to do, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips firmly against his. He grinned into the kiss before lifting her up, her legs wrapping around his waist, and then they were moving across the room, falling into the bed. Their clothes ended up thrown about the room and the bed was much more comfortable than the tree, than the ground inside her tent, and they lost themselves within the other one.

Eden didn't want to watch the battle between Lexa and Roan. He had somehow convinced her that she had to, though, so she found herself in the crowd and the two battled it out. It didn't take long for her to close her eyes, not wanting to see if he would die in front of her. Clarke stood next to her, the two of them gripping each other as the battle ensued in front of them. Her eyes only opened when the crowd around her gasped loudly, telling her someone had just died.

To her surprise, both Lexa and Roan were still breathing. Lexa's spear, however, had embedded itself in Nia's chest. Lexa said something to Roan, who was on the ground in front of her, then left the arena in a flurry. The crowd began moving around Eden and Clarke, shocking the pair into realizing that what had just happened wasn't just their imagination. They shared a look before Clarke rushed after Lexa and Eden took off for the man laying on the ground, bloody and a mess. Her hands grasped his head, holding him gently in her lap.

"You lived," she whispered, stroking his hair. "You're alive."

"Of course I am," he told her, smiling faintly up at her. "I'm not going to leave you."

"Never," she whispered back, leaning down and kissing his lips in front of everyone. "Let's go get you patched up, Prince Roan."

"Actually," he said as she stood up and offered him a hand up, which he took. "Lexa just declared I'm the King of Azgeda, since my mother is dead."

"Oh my God," she breathed as she lead him by hand to their room, looking up at him in shock. "How far you've come since you pulled me out of the water and saved me from that snake."

"Looks like we're even, now, huh?" he said, wrapping an arm around her.

"Nowhere near close," she said, grasping his hand that dangled over her shoulder. "You didn't just save my life, you kept me alive."

"You know," he said as she shut the door behind them, "meeting you saved my life, too."

"Looks like we're both the damsel in distress, huh?" she teased, pushing him onto the bed and peeling his shirt off to inspect his wounds.

"Or we're both the knight in shining armor," he replied. "If only we had a white horse."

She laughed, gazing at him adoringly. That's when it hit her: she was in love with this man, who had pulled her from a river and had killed the snake that tried to eat her, that had hunted for her and provided her with food, that made her feel truly good. He had become her home, part of her small family. And she had no problem with that, she realized, as she pressed a kiss to his split lip and got his blood on her own. Earth had changed her and if this was what that change meant, loving a man who wasn't gentle with anyone but her, she couldn't help but feel like Earth was where she belonged all along.
