2.0 Are You Crying, Too?

The morning after the ghost's fateful arrival at the Molina household, Robin Mercer made her way throughout the studio as she heard the grand piano inside being played. It was not any of the boys, they were arguing outside about a squirrel. She popped her head out to see who was playing such beautiful music, and it was Julie Molina herself. A smile grew across Robin's lips as she rushed out to the backyard. "Guys, she's playing the piano in there." The boy's eyes widened as all four of them poofed into the studio behind the Molina girl as she finished her ballad.

"Wake up your dream
And make it true.
Look out,
Look inside of you.
When you feel lost,
Relight that spark
Time to come out of the dark.
Wake up.
Mm-mm,
Wake up."

The girl let out a sigh as she finished the song, and took a hold the final sheet of the music. At the bottom, her mother had written,

'Julie, you can do it.
Love, mom'.

Julie hugged the piece of music against her chest as she looked upwards. Alex Mercer began to step forward to speak to the girl, but his twin sister held him back and shook her head. Luke Patterson nodded, agreeing with Robin, and circled his finger in the air. The four ghosts then poofed out of the studio and into Julie's yard. "Rob, why'd you stop me?" Alex questioned his sister as she looked through the windows, watching the girl inside. "Julie needs a hug."

Robin let out a chuckle as she shook her head. "You physically can't give her a hug, Alex. And I don't think a ghost hug is the feel good moment you think it it." Luke and Reggie Peters nodded, agreeing with Robin.

"Bro, she just needs some privacy, all right?" Luke added on, causing Alex's head to snap towards him.

Alex furrowed his eyebrows, leaning towards the lead singer. "You know what? I think you poofed us out because you can't handle when other people cry. I should know. I cried in a room for twenty-five years, and I didn't get a single hug from either of you." Alex stepped backwards, obviously still upset about his twenty-five year long tantrum.

The raven haired boy shrugged before holding out his arms. "All right. Bring it in."

Reggie moved closer towards his friend, but Alex put his hand into the air, stopping him. "Don't touch me!" He snapped.

Robin frowned, crossing her arms over her chest. "And I think that is why no one ever hugs you." She joked to her brother.

Luke's eyes widened as he stared at his three band mates. "Okay." He stated awkwardly. "I think the first thing we should do, once we get the courage to go in there, is ask Julie why she lied about playing the piano."

"And maybe tell her how amazing she is." Alex stared blankly at his friend as he spoke, not understanding how Luke did not think about anyone else's emotions.

The brown haired boy nodded, patting Alex's shoulder. "Yeah, of course, bro."

Reggie let out a sigh. "She's legit. I got ghost bumps."

Suddenly, a girl walked past the three ghosts, crying. Robin frowned as she stared at the girl. "What was that?"

"Oh my gosh." Alex gasped. "Was she crying too?"

"Yes!" Luke nodded, turning back to his friends with wide eyes once again. "And the only thing scarier than one girl crying is two girls crying?"

A smirk appeared on Robin's face as she cocked her head to the side. "Want to make it three?" She questioned the boy, causing him to shiver at the thought. "Luke's kind of right. We really can't go in there right now." Robin looked into the studio through the window as she spoke.

"But..." Reggie raised a finger into the air. "We can listen."

The boys rushed towards the door, getting on their tip toes to see through the window. "Guys, this is an invasion of privacy." Robin crossed her arms over her chest.

Luke looked back at her and shrugged. "I mean, we are ghosts, so that's kind of our job."

"Okay, yeah." Robin nodded before popping her head into the window next to Reggie.

She watched as the girl approached Julie, who was still sitting at the piano. "Carlos said you would be out here. We need to talk." The girl spoke, causing Julie to look up. The four ghosts ducked down quickly, hoping to not be seen by her.

Julie raised an eyebrow. "Are you okay?" She questioned her friend.

The girl shook her head frantically as she leaned her elbows against the grand piano. "No, I'm not okay! You just got kicked out of music! I've been up all night thinking about what I was going to say." The girl explained to her friend, leaving Julie very confused. "I might have drank seven sodas, but I need to get this out."

"Wait, I have something to tell you-"

Julie's friend cut her off before she said her good news. "No, it's my turn to talk." The friend spoke. Julie nodded, leaning back in her seat. "You can't give up music!" The girl shouted. "Your music's like a gift, that would be a tragedy. So, you're basically, like, canceling Christmas, and I love Christmas!"

"Flynn, I-"

The girl, who's name was Flynn, cut Julie off once again. "Uh-uh." Julie let out a chuckle, seceding to her friend. "When we were six, we promised to be in a band together : Double Trouble."

Julie shook her head as she giggled. "I never agreed to that name."

Flynn let out a sigh before circling the piano to be closer to her friend. "That's not the point. Jules, if you leave the music program, we'll be apart forever. That's just what happens. Sure, we'll see each other in the hall sometimes, but we'll have different lives, make new friends."

"That's not true." Julie spoke.

"You're right. I won't be making any new friends." Flynn frowned. "And the only time we'll be contacting each other is when we'll be liking each other's posts on Instagram."

Reggie glanced down at Robin. "What is Instagram?" He questioned the girl, who simply shrugged in response.

"Every time I'll be hating that little hear, my heart will be breaking because my best friend left me, and..." Flynn groaned, putting her hand to her temples. "Do you guys have any soda? My head hurts." Robin cringed as she listened to this girl speak. She was very extra.

Julie leaned forwards. "Can I talk now?" She asked her friend. Flynn nodded, rolling her eyes. "I just played the piano and sang again."

Flynn's eyes widened as she glanced down at the sheet music in front of her. "What? Why didn't you just say so?" Robin let out a groaned, leaning her back against the walls of the studio.

"I was trying, then your seven sodas kicked in." Julie smiled.

"I'm so happy for you!" Flynn gasped, throwing her hands into the air in celebration."And me!" The two girls giggled together before Flynn continued. "Look at you, looking all, I don't know, alive again."

Julie shrugged. "Right? It's like I drank seven sodas."

Flynn furrowed her eyebrows as she stared down at her best friend. "What made you play again?" She questioned her.

Julie looked down, taking the sheet music from the piano into her hands. "I found this song my mom wrote me."

She passed the music to Flynn, who's eyes widened. "Whoa."

The music was set back down on the piano, and Julie nodded. "I know." She leaned her head against her elbow. "I was so afraid to play it. Anything involving music reminds me of her. And then I woke up this morning... realizing that's why I should play it." She smiled, leaning back. "Keep her memory alive." She set her fingers on a few keys.

"Aww, come here." Flynn held her arms out, and Julie stood up, going into hug Flynn. The girl then gasped. "We need to tell Mrs. Harrison you can play so you can stay in school and my life won't be that sad picture I just painted for you." Julie laughed as Flynn grabbed onto her hands. "My girl's back. Double Trouble lives again!" Flynn turned towards the door, starting to drag Julie out.

"Not our band name." Julie raised an eyebrow, walking alongside her best friend.

Flynn shook her head, looking at Julie. "I gave you a t-shirt in the seventh grade that says otherwise."

As the ghosts heard the girls approaching the door, they got into 'natural' poses, and Robin leaned against Luke as his arm draped over her shoulder. "Oh, hey!" Julie smiled, noticing the band. Robin waved her hand before noticing the position that her and Luke were in. Her eyes widened as she slid to the side slightly, creating space between the two of them. Luke frowned, noticing her moving from him. Flynn stopped walking as she heard Julie speak and glanced back at her, furrowing her eyebrows. Julie froze for a second before a fake smile plastered across her lips. "Let's hustle!"

The girl rushed towards her best friend, waving awakrdly back at the ghosts. "Don't worry. We weren't listening!" Reggie exclaimed, causing Robin to elbow him in the ribs. Reggie let out a groan as he glared down at his best friend. Flynn noticed Julie's waving, and she tried to play it off as her swatting at a fly. They rushed out of the yard, leaving the four ghosts alone.

They walked through the doors of the studio, and Reggie frowned. "I wonder why Julie didn't tell us she could shred on the piano?"

"And sing!" Luke nodded, smiling. "That girl can sing!"

Robin let out a chuckle as she shook her head. "I think it has something to do with her mom, guys. She seemed really heartbroken about her." Alex made his way up to the loft as Robin continued to speak. "I really feel for her."

"Anyways, now she's got music back in her life, just like us." Luke ran his hand through his hair as Robin and him made eye contact. Robin quickly looked down.

Alex leaned his hands on the banister of the loft. "Yeah, I'm not sure you can call what we have a life." Reggie nodded, agreeing with the blonde haired boy. Alex turned around and saw a bag filled with clothes. "Hey! Some of the clothes we left behind are still up here!"

He tossed the trash bag down on to the ground. "Sweet!" Luke laughed before throwing off his cutoff hoodie. He then proceeded to task off his tank top, leaving him shirtless, and Robin froze, her eyes widening as the boy kneeled down on the ground to get his clothes. "Ugh, same clothes since 95', boys?"

Reggie giggled, watching Robin. He played with her hair. "Stop drooling, Rob. It's not attractive." Robin turned, sending a glare to Reggie, and he threw his hands into the air as he backed up. The girl noticed Julie's father walk into the studio with a camera, and watched as he walked straight through Reggie. Reggie let out a yelp as he stared down at his body. "Woah, that was weird."

"That's what you deserve." Robin shrugged, letting out a giggle.

Luke furrowed his eyebrows as he threw his black tank top over his torso. "Somehow I can tell this man has a kind heart." Reggie stated, stepping closer towards Julie's dad.

Julie's father looked into the air. "So, how have you been?"

Reggie looked around before speaking. "Honestly, not that good." He answered a question that was definitely not meant for him. "See, we ate these hot dogs, and-"

"He's not talking to you." Robin shook her head as she put her hand on Reggie shoulder, pulling her away from Julie's father.

"Julie sang for the first time this morning." Julie's father spoke as he began to walk around the studio. "She hadn't done that in almost a year. You would have loved it."

Reggie crinkled his nose before speaking again. "Yeah, we saw because we were-"

Robin rolled her eyes as she groaned. "Again, he's not talking to you. I think he's talking to Julie's mom." Reggie nodded, waving his hand in front of Julie's father's face.

"She's such an amazing young woman." Julie's father spoke as he passed Luke on his way to the grand piano. The band stood up, circling the piano, as they listened to him speak. "Every day she reminds me more and more of you."

"See." Robin smirked, bumping Reggie's shoulder with her own.

Julie's father looked down at the camera. "Oh, I'm- uh- I'm talking pictures for the real estate website." He continued as he began to tear up. "I don't really want to move, but..." He set the camera down as he sat at the piano. "I guess it's best for Julie."

Robin's eyes widened as she leaned forward. "Move?"

"There's so many memories of Julie playing next to you, and..." Her father let out a strained chuckle. "... Carlos trying to see with his missing two front teeth."

Luke let out a shake breath as he listened to her father speak, and Robin furrowed her eyebrows. "Are you crying too?"

The boy nodded as he watched Julie's father stand from the piano. "He- He's talking about moving, but the poor guy, he doesn't want to move."

Julie's father snapped a picture of the piano that all four of the ghosts were right behind. "It's like they grew up out here." Julie's father spoke again as he looked around the studio.

Reggie let out a gasp as he felt a tear run down his cheek. "Oh god, now he's got me too."

"Okay, how am I the emotional one?" Alex frowned as he looked between his two friends.

The raven haired boy turned to his friend. "C-C-Can we go see my family and see how they're doing?" Reggie stuttered out as he tried wiping away his tears.

Robin nodded as she backed away from the piano. "Yeah, guys, listening to this feels so wrong."

Julie's father looked down at the piano with a smile. "Hey, do you remember when the kids were all at your sister's, and we came out here on our anniversary..."

The man cocked an eyebrow, and Robin covered her mouth with her hand. Luke shook his head. "Yeah, this is definitely wrong." They quickly poofed out of the studio.

The four ghosts arrived at the beach where Reggie had lived before they died. His eyes widened as he saw a giant building. "A bike shack right where my house used to be?"

Luke patted his chest. "Yeah, I'm sorry, man."

Reggie glanced towards where his neighbors used to live. "They made the Meyerson's house into a noodle shop. Why couldn't they have made mine a pizzeria or something?"

Robin nodded, staring at the empty land of the beach around them. "They tour down the whole entire neighborhood." Luke nodded, moving away from them.

"I guess my folks are gone." Reggie frowned.

Alex shook his head. "Everyone's gone. Twenty-five years, gone." Luke nodded as he sat down on a log. "Friends, family, Bobby, everyone."

"Shit, I forgot about Bobby." Robin giggled, and the three boys raised an eyebrow at her. "He flirted with me just to get Luke jealous, and I thought it was funny."

Luke's eyes widened. "You thought that was funny?"

Robin nodded and let out a snort. "What do you guys think happened to him?" She questioned her friends.

"He probably just got old like everybody else and moved on." Luke shrugged, moving his feet throughout the sand.

Alex frowned, crossing his arms over his chest. "How are you so casual about this? I mean, don't you want to figure out what happened?"

"Let's be real for a second. It's not like any of us were that close to our families." Luke snapped.

"I don't know." Robin bit her lip softly, glancing over towards her brother. "Alex and I are pretty close."

Luke rolled his eyes. "That's not the point. My folks always regretted buying me that guitar." Luke motioned towards the raven haired boy. "Reggie, your parents were literally a fight away from a divorce." Reggie sighed. "Alex, your parents were never cool again after you told them you were gay." Alex scoffed. "And, Rob, they always got in fights with you because of me."

Robin nodded slowly, not happy about Luke being right. "Alright, so none of us had it great, but it was something. What do we have now?"

The brown haired boy opened his mouth to speak, but Alex spoke again before he could. "And before you say cool teleportation skills, just know I am not entirely okay with that either! It tingles! In weird places!" Everyone stared blankly at Alex as he awkwardly turned towards the ocean.

Luke stood up. "I'll tell you what we had." He jumped up on the log. "It's what we've had since the day we came together." He looked down at Robin, and she nodded, anticipating him saying something. Luke shook his head before looking at his friends. "Guys, we have us. Okay, we're the only family we're ever going to need."

Reggie crinkled his nose in disgust as he looked between Luke and Robin. "I hope you two aren't siblings, because that would be digsuting." Robin laughed at the boy, shaking her head.

"You know what else we've got?" Luke spoke again, trying to ignore what Reggie said.

Robin shrugged, shoving her hands into the back pockets of her jeans. "Death breath?"

Luke smirked. "Our music, princess." Robin's eyes widened as Luke used his nickname for her. The boy chuckled. "We have our music, guys. People, actual people can hear us play! They cam't see us, dine, but they can feel us." He paused for a second before continuing. "If I had my guitar, I'd play for all these people right now. Just like what we used to do down at the pier."

Alex cocked his head to the side. "Yeah... They can't tip what they can't see."

The boy shook his head before hopping off the log. "It's not about the tips, Alex. It's about playing music. Connecting with people. Making a difference in their day." He walked towards his friends. "I just- I wish I had my guitar." Suddenly, Luke's guitar was thrown into his hands, and he spun around from the force.

He looked down at the guitar and smiled. "Woah!" Reggie exclaimed, a bit confused. "That was rad! How'd you do that?"

"I don't know." Luke stated, still very confused, as he stared down at the guitar. "I- I- I mean, I wished for it, and then it came in my hands..." Robin slapped her hand over her mouth from the unintentional dirty joke Luke made, and they boy laughed. "I didn't mean that, and you know it, Rob." The girl shrugged.

Reggie weirdly squatted as he closed his eyes. "I- I- I wish I had a puppy!" Reggie shouted, holding his hands in the air. Nothing happened. "A hamster?" Nothing again. "Pizza?" They boy let out a sigh as he opened his eyes, standing back up straight. He groaned before kicking the sand and sitting down.

Luke bit his lip softly before leaning towards his friend. "Hey, I think I know something that will cheer you up." He began to strum his guitar, causing Robin to smile.

He wiggled his eyebrows at his ex-girlfriend, causing her to to chuckle. She moved towards him, facing Reggie. She held her hand out, but Reggie shook his head. Alex was suddenly next to her, and he leaned towards Reggie. "Come on, Reginald." Alex began hitting a beat against his chest.

"A one, two, there four!"

Reggie stood up, joining his friends, as he began to sing.

"Can you?
Can you hear me?"

Robin nodded, sending the boy a wink. "Yep, loud and clear!" Reggie then continued his song.

"We gotta get,
Gotta get ready!"

He jumped onto the log, overlooking all of the people at the beach.

Alex and Luke joined him before Luke helped Robin up and said, "'Cause it's been years!"

"Woah, oh, oh, oh."

Reggie jumped from the log and circled a palm tree as he danced. Luke grabbed Robin by the waist as he carried her from the log towards her best friend. She looked down at him and smiled as he set her down before she sang.

"This band is back."

The boys joined her, harmonizing.

"Woah, oh, oh, oh.
This band is back!"

A family who were play volleyball began to dance and laugh as they listened to the ghosts sing.

"Whoohoo, ooh, ohh.
Woohoo, ooh, ooh!
Woohoo, ooh, ooh."

Reggue ran towards a couple sitting together on the grass.

"Can you..."
"Yes we can."
Can you hear me?
Loud and clear!"
"We gotta get..."
"Wanna get,
We gotta get ready
'Cause it's been years!"

Reggie began jumping along a trail of metal chairs as the other three ghosts walked beside him, Luke still continuing to strum on his guitar.

"Whoa, oh, oh, oh.
This band is back!
Woah, oh, oh, oh!
This band is back!"

They came across one couple on two of the metal chairs, and the man said, "You won't find the speaker. It's direct spot audio. I heard about it in a TED Talk." The girl nodded as she nodded her head to Luke's beat.

"Woohoo, ooh, ohh."

The boys began to scat as they left the populated area of the beach, much happier than when they arrived.
