Lily's POV

"Mudblood slut" I hear snape say under his breath. That one comment takes me back to the summer.
*mini flash back*

"STUPEFY" I scream "GET OUT OF THE WAY YOU STUPID MUDBLOOD SLUT" a death eater says as he tries to get to shoot unforgivable curses at my cousin Rachel. My best friend. "LEAVE US ALONE THE MINISTRY IS ON THEIR WAY" I've already been hit with the cruciatis curse twice. I still feel like hot knives are cutting me from the inside out. I try to stand up and protect her but I am too late. "Avada Kedavra!" "NOOO"

*end of flashback*

"Lily!" I hear a voice say. I just realised I've been crying. Oh no. Lily Evans doesn't cry.

They ask me am I alright and I just go along saying I'm fine. As we walk back to the marauders compartment the two boys are keeping an annoyingly close eye on me.
"Could you not tell anyone about that please?" I utter awkwardly. "Ok Lily but what happened?" Remus asks concerned. "Nothing I'm fine" I say my temper rising. Not a good time for my short fuse. I guess they pick up on my angry tone because they don't carry the conversation any further. As we enter the compartment Marlene and Sirius are snogging. Nothing new there. Alice is having an animated conversation with poor Peter who looks terrified at her waving hands. It's a wonder she hasn't slapped him yet. "Hello my wonderful friends.. and Sirius." I say with a smile
"Oh how you wound me lily-flower" he collapses away from Marly, as dramatic as ever. I roll my eyes. "Hey is something wrong" Mary asks as she comes back into the compartment in her robes and carrying multiple chocolate frogs. I see she looking at James and Remus confused. "No, why what's up?" Marly asks. "Well for a starter James and Remus looks like they've seen a  ghost and secondly Lily looks like she's been crying. But Lily freaking Evans doesn't cry, so who set off the dungbomb?" Mar says ticking each thing she said off her fingers. He braided hair in a high pony tail that whips around each time she dramatically ticks off a finger.

"Oh em it was just some 2nd year. I had james give her a detention. That's why he is pale because she could've been a mini james in the making. And Remus didnt get a bubble head charm on in time." I chuckled softly at my lie. I hate lying but it's for their own good. They'd be worried.

As the train pulls up James and I guide the new little first years to the boats. "Firs' years! Firs' years this way"
I can hear Hagrids voice boom from the boat shed.
We make our way to the carriages and that's when I see them. These huge, bony, black skeleton horses are infront of the carriages. "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT" I scream as I back away from the carriages. "What's what!!!" Mar asks slightly scared. "Those horse things that are pulling the carriages!" "Lily the carriages pull themselves I thought?" James says concerned for my sanity. "No actually there pulled by theastrals but you can only see them If you've-" Remus stops explaining it looking at me "seen death" Alice finishes for him. "Lily what happened over the summer?. You never answered my letters or came over the only letter I got from you was saying you were with Rachel." Marly says with worry laced in her voice. "Who's Rachel?" Peter questioned. "She was my cousin" I say tears springing to my eyes. Come on Lily keep the tears in, don't let them see you cry I say to myself. "Was? Lily what happened?" Mar asked. "There was a death eater attack in my town and I tried I really tried but the curses they used unforgivable curses and they killed her I'm sorry I tried I tried I couldn't move because they used crucio and the killed her and i couldn't save her" I'm bawling now. I'm trying not to panicked but I cant help it. All I can see is the flashes of green. "Lily, Lily please calm down." Come here you have to breathe Lily" "Lily we are at Hogwarts you're safe they cant hurt you here." This is all I can hear. Just the words of comfort from Alice, Mar and Marly. I'm in Marly's arms with my head buried in her neck. I try to control my breathing. When I stopped crying and my breathing went back to normal i looked up to see Marlene crying aswell and smiling sadly down at me. "Are you alright now Lily" I look up to see Sirius looking at me almost scared. I completely forgot that the boys were here. I gasped. I just broke down infront of the group of boys who I basically just became friends with today. "I'm so sorry! I didnt mean to breakdown like that infront of you. God I'm so stupid!" "Lily you are in no way stupid" Alice exclaims from beside me. I smile slightly at her. I sit up and fix myself up slightly. "God I've cried more times today than I have in all my years at hogwarts!" I chuckle softly. We go back to our regular conversation and  thankfully they dont bring it up again. I'm starting to feel really comfortable around the marauders. This could be a blossoming friendship.
