November 5th World Tsunami Awareness Day.
Today is to raise awareness about tsunamis,
large waves caused by an underwater earthquake,
these can reach up to 100 feet tall,
before on the shore they break.
Tsunamis can travel up to 500 miles an hour,
and can cause enormous devastation,
they hit land with so much force,
their power has so much penetration.
Tsunamis are a series of ocean waves that can reach heights of over 100 feet, these walls of water can cause massive damage when they come ashore. About 80% of tsunamis happen in the Pacific Ocean's " Ring of Fire " where tectonic shifts make volcanoes and earthquakes common, another cause can be underwater landslides. Tsunamis speed across the sea at up to 500 mph, losing very little energy along the way. As they reach shore they slow down but gain energy and height, first it creates a vacuum that actually takes the water out but this is a warning of what is impending. This is the time to move to higher ground while you still have time. The deadliest tsunami recorded was the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami which killed about 230,000 people in 11 countries.
