November 30th St Andrews Day.

St Andrew, Patron Saint of Scotland,

was the first disciple Jesus chose,

today Scottish culture is celebrated ,

with food, dance music and shows,

as their flag flies proudly on all buildings,

the people wear traditional clothes.

The feast day of St Andrew is celebrated on November 30th. Andrew was born in Bethesda, Galilee, he was the younger brother of St Peter, both of them becoming disciples of Jesus. St Andrew was born in 7 BC and was crucified around 70 AD on an X shaped cross, the same cross you see on a Scottish flag, the Saltire. Although this happened in Greece his remains were moved to Constantinople, later they were moved to Amalfi in Italy. Scotland has been receiving bits of St Andrew for hundreds of years, finger bones, a tooth, kneecap and arm have been in Scotland since the 16th century. The Archbishop of Amalfi gifted them his shoulder blade in 1879. Pope Paul VI also gave Scotland more of St Andrws remains in 1969. St Andrew is also Patron Saint of Greece, Romania, Russia and Barbados, also of fishmongers, maidens, spinsters, gout, sore throats and women trying to conceive.
