Our worlds natural resources 

are linked to some causes of war, 

diamonds, gold, timber and oil 

to some are worth fighting for. 

But conflict also affects our land, 

forests cut down, crops set alight, 

animals lost, water poisoned,

nature cannot protect itself or fight.

Please protect and appreciate our environment.

On November 5th 2001 the UN general Assembly declared November 6th of each year as International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict A/RES/56/4. In times of war the damage to the environment can be devastating, water wells polluted, crops burnt, forests cut down, soils poisoned and animals killed to gain some sort of military advantage. Nearly half of internal conflicts are connected to natural resources such as diamonds, gold, timber and oil. Our environment needs taking care of even in times of armed conflict.
