Escaping Into Freedom [Pilot]
Update: Its a story now. Ongoing as of right now, 3/24/2017. Thank you!
Author Note[IMPORTANT]: This oneshot may seem fast and kinda weird, but I was thinking of making it into a book. It know how it will begin (roughly this) and end. The middle is pretty well rounded. Some filler that will make you chuckle and plot that will be slipped under the carpet here and there. I'm not sure, I don't want to make a story no one cares about. So I got an idea. If I got an idea for a story, I'll make a oneshot planning out it will start, roughly accurate to final story. And in around 3-6 comments saying yes (3 if I really am pumped to do it, so I'll jump the boat on it so fucking fast, 6 or a little less is when I'm down for it.) and I'll make the actual first chapter. It will have the word "[Pilot]" in the title so that means it's up to vote if you want it was a full story or not. Thank you for reading this ramble. Enjoy this oneshot. :D
It was supposed to be a nice and slow day at the lab, but one of the test subjects broke free and ran amok as to find an exit. It was under the roof of the laboratory and just hides very well. The subject never showed a sign of discomfort until it reached near the end of it's mating and reproduction part of it's life. So after it successfully gave birth to a healthy baby, it did it's escape with the newborn. Kept well hidden and quiet.
It did kill some staff that stood in it's way, average of three every two days. It doesn't rip their bodies apart or do weird shit with their limbs or pose, just stab to the heart and hid away.
Unfortunately, Aleks Merchant was one of the live staff. After so some weeks of this going on, he was finally put on night patrol to keep big eyes out for the test subject. He was given some details of the subject since he never saw it before. Hybrid of human and cow was mostly the big picture here.
Aleks was heading into the kitchen, maybe he'll find it there looking for food. He was crossing his fingers in hopes for his trap there was gonna work for once. Once in, he heard whimpering and tiny metal hitting against the floor. The trap worked. He pulled out his dart gun and slowly walked in.
There it was, the hybrid was on the floor and hold it's leg that was stuck in the trap. Very dark brown curly hair tied into a bun. Skin was a soft tan tone with science mumbo jumbo tattoos on his arms. A chest binder like bra to cover its chest. Legs were big cow hind legs and had bull horns and ears. Eyes of dark brown. Aleks' heart dropped. The hybrid sucked in a breath and quickly got a kitchen knife, sherring a sound of metal to the air. Aleks stood back.
"Easy, easy, I'm not gonna hurt you," Aleks whispered the most gentle he could. The hybrid didn't put down the weapon or lose its gaze. Aleks felt nervous and put his weapon down. "See? Not going to hurt you." The hybrid still kept its weapon up.
A soft cry was heard and got the two's attention. Aleks slowly walked over to the sound, the metal was going against the floor a few times. Aleks saw the baby hybrid, same as the mother, but a little dark skin. Picked up the baby from the cold hard floor and cradled it. It's cry started to get less soft. He put the baby against his shoulder and rubbed its back, the cry started to get soft again. There were still upset whimpers.
Aleks looked at the mother and slowly gave the baby to it, with the mother holding the knife up to Aleks' neck of course. The mother put the knife next to its leg and went to care for the newborn. Put the "chest binder" up and brought the newborn close, smooth it and it started to drink. The mother got the knife and pointed it back to Aleks, showing how protective it was.
Aleks' eyes shifted to the trap and felt the guilt again. He got to his knees and slowly put his hands to the trap. Knife very close to his temple. The trap was like jaws and it didn't really close much, but still causing massive pain for how deep it got through flesh before being stopped by thick bone. Mother did suck it in a lot, so that's one scary point. Aleks pressed a little button and made the trap loose. He slowly pulled the jaws apart and got the gross sounds and look of the leg. Some strings of blood. He got the trap and pushed it far away. Cringed at the cuts and open wounds.
He got his patrol backpack and pulled out a first aid kit. He did had to touch the mother's leg. He sighed and put a hand on the mother's leg, making it hiss and pulling its leg back. Aleks hushed it and told it that it was okay. He put his hand back on the mother's leg, softly rubbing it with his thumb. A friendly smile to comfort the mother. Mother blinked a few times and shook its head, pouting and holding the knife close. Aleks rolled his eyes.
He started to bandage the leg up and soon finished. The mother reeled it's foot back and stared at Aleks, still holding the knife out. They kept their stares at each other, wondering if something will happen. Aleks smile got soft, he sat down and crossed his legs. He watched the baby fill it's little stomach up, the mother never lost it's gaze or strength. Aleks looked back at the mother, looking upset at Aleks. Aleks pouted and raised a brow. The mother moved its fingers around the knife, just waiting for him to strike.
The baby was starting to slow down as it's eyes were getting heavier and heavier. Fluttered his eyes and huffed, going back to drinking. Aleks softly chuckled at the silly baby, the mother looked at him with a confused face. The knife was getting low and lower, Aleks didn't move a muscle. The knife was now on the floor and the mother's hand was empty. They shared the stare once again, soaking in the slowly growing trust.
The calf was drinking slower again, finally stopping when it's eyes fell. The mother put his binder back down and burped the baby. The calf was starting to wake up again, but relaxed and got knocked out cold after it's burp. The mother cradled the calf and watched Aleks, a more scared and worrying face.
Aleks scooted closer, the mother got back. Aleks scooted slower and eventually got on it's side. He watched the calf sleep, very calm and innocent. Never had he saw something so cute and this tiny. He looked at the mother, putting his forehead against the mother's, smiling wide. "I'll get you two out of here."
Aleks walked the mother, covered head to toe, and the baby out of the building and into his car. The mother did had to lay down on the floor with its child to hide from the front road security. He waited for his shift to end and switched with the next guy. He got to his car and drove away, passing through security and getting to his home.
He told the mother it could sit in the front passenger seat as he packs some stuff. Aleks packed all of his clothes and money. He put some devices like chargers and his laptop in as well. He drove off and headed to a place he thought he would never have to come back to.
"Hey there little cousin!" A farmer cheered all joyful.
"H-hey, Diana," Aleks smiled.
Diana is a farmer and Aleks' step-cousin. Daina always loves Aleks' company, anyone's company. She raises money by selling the resources in her little store as a rest stop. Her husband helps her getting the food and tending to the farm to make sure it stays healthy.
"Why did you stop back your ol' cousin?"
"Well, I was thinking stay here for a while..."
"Stay!?" Daina shouted, then hollered in pure joy. "Boy, that would be no problem! I would love to have you here!"
"Well... I didn't come alone," Aleks said nervously. He knocked on the window of the backseat. The mother shifted and stired before showing itself to the farmer.
"Is that the devil!?"
"No! A cow hybrid," Aleks explained. "Maybe you can spare a bed for me and a space in the barn for them and the calf."
"It's also a father!?"
"No, it's a girl so-wait, is it a boy?" Aleks looked at the mother. "Are you a male?" The mother nodded, tired.
"So, it's the mom, but also a boy?" Diana asked as Aleks realized his mistake.
"Yeah."
"Well let me see the little critter then!" Diana cheered happily. Aleks opened the door and already saw the little calf sleeping away on the seat. Diana kneeled down and wowed at it. "Look at 'em, all tiny and cute." The mother smiled and softly kissed the baby's head. "You know, me and Harry got a little barn near the house. He can stay in there."
"Perfect! Thank you!" Aleks looked at the mother with a big smile. "Come on, let's get you to the barn so you can rest." The mother looked at him and yawned, put his head back down next to his baby. Aleks kissed his teeth, "tsk, come on! Move! My car reeks and you need to get in the barn." The mother still refused to get up.
"Hey, Beauty, we got lots of food for you in the barn. A whole room to yourself, quiet and calm. And!" Diana got close to the mother's ear and whispered. The mother's eyes opened and looked at Diana. "Yeah, Beauty, just head on over to the barn." the mother got his baby and got out of the car, following Diana to the little barn.
"What did you tell him?" Aleks whispered to Diana.
"Nothing," Diana said. Aleks gave her a suspicious look. That's one of the reasons why he doesn't like her.
Once to the little shed like barn, the mother smiled and got inside. He laid down with his calf and yawned. Diana closed the doors and let the two sleep. They walked away and got into the house to talk. Aleks explained how he found him and his job. Saying he quit his job and took the two to safety.
Diana nodded to his bravery. She did warn him that they might find him, so she explained her plan to protect. Guns hidden around the house and a bunker under the house, but more around the farm just in case they are away from the house. Aleks was impressed and feared of Diana. She laughed at his discomfort of armory and hiding spots. Assured him that she won't kill him in his sleep.
Didn't help.
First night Aleks was sleeping in the bed, he heard the barn being opened. He stood up and went over to the window to see who's there, but couldn't see the barn from there. He went downstairs and outside, saw the mother opening the front gate. He watched him walk into the field of grass.
It was strange at first. Curiosity took over Aleks and made him follow after.
The mother kept walking until he got to arguably the middle of the field. He sat down and looked up at the night sky. Not a sound, just looking. Aleks got confused and walked closer. The mother looked over, no smile. Aleks sat down next to him, seeing the calf on the mother's lap.
"So... You like it here so far?" Aleks asked. The mother nodded. "That's good... So, is your baby a girl?" Shook his head. "Oh, so a boy?" Nodded his head. Aleks smiled and watched the little male calf sleep away.
He looked up at the sky and saw all the bright dots on the black paper. Forming lines and curves, an illustration of a God or two. Made him think how much he was missing by sleeping. He shifted his eyes to the mother, who was looking and softly smiling. He never saw the outside world. Born into the lab and raised into the little fake world. Forced to eat certain things, test his emotions and physical limitations, forcing him to bread with some random other hybrid test subject.
He never felt the crisp cold air in his nostrils or see such a unique sky. Never felt real, cold, and wet grass against his skin. Never have he had any of this, just a cold and sterile room. Wasn't even given proper food, always mess, drugs, mostly steroids to boost him up.
It does turn around when he sees his chubby calf sleeping calmly on his lap. No needles, pure fear cries, injections of steroids, forced spoon feedings, or lack of love. The mother never had love, never. Before Aleks helped him, he saw him as a kill. Stab once and move on.
However, it changed. The mother feels different. No weak feelings or fear in his gains, just fuzzy and weird. He shook it off and thought it could be that he's not used to someone being so nice to him. Probably so.
"So... Um... Do you have a name?" Aleks asked, breaking the mother's thinking. The mother nodded, but then thought how to tell him. He put his finger on Aleks' chest and started tracing letters. "O-oh okay, um... J... A... M... E... S... James?" The mother, James, nodded. Aleks smiled and looked at the calf. " and his name?" James tapped on his chin and put his finger back on Aleks' chest, forming letters. "P... E... T... E... R... Peter?" James nodded. Aleks smiled again and hummed. "Peter... That's a cute name."
James nodded and went back to the stars. They sat in silence before James stood up and walked back to his little barn. Aleks followed behind.
Once at the barn, Aleks split and headed to his own bed. Laying down and falling asleep to the nighttime melody of owls, livestock, and gentle whistling wind. He smiled and thought how his life got more exciting to live in.
